RIP Bobs Worth. Final leg of a big treble for me on the Friday of that Cheltenham.

I loved Bobs Worth, you forget how good he was, this, RSA, Hennessy, Lexus, he was some tool....

what a great gold cup bobs worth was fantastic and so was barry the race really did not go his way but he stays and still won well done mr henderson will win it again in 2014 and again long run was very brave if he could just brush up his jumping he will be a danger to them all.
Best horse won the race. Five from five at Cheltenham ; fresh horse, stays forever, is gutsy, has a master trainer and great jockey, has never lost a race once he has hit the front. What more could you want. All in all, the perfect Gold Cup horse. That's why I tipped it months ago and backed it.

My biggest win ever at the time I was so confident he would win. Had £200 on him ar 7/2 and then I followed it up with alderwood and I think salsify to take my winnings that day to over £1500 that day. Needless to say I had a fantastic night that day and the drinks were on me
I was there that day and had those same horses. Salsify got a bit lucky the young girl fell through the barrier

Geraghty timed his run to perfection.
He looked like he was struggling for a bit but was patient and worked his way into the race. Ruby did look like he was going well though.

do you think he would stay on up the hill though? i don't. Bobs Worth brilliant run in.tough choice due to lack of runs.so glad i went big now. 3/1 for next year lol worth a punt!
Horses for courses couldn't be more relevant for bobs worth, couldn't back him after such along lay off the track and he did look beat along way out but his heart and lungs are perfect for cheltenham ,to be able to win with obvious ring rust is quite remarkable.
Old65rocker is right, my tent or yours spring to mind, was traveling like the best horse going to the last but couldn't beat champagne fever

You can't say the horse travelling best at third out (or even two out) will win the Gold Cup. In that case you're looking at none of Cool Dawn, Cool Ground, Dawn Run, Desert Orchid, Looks Like Trouble, Lord Windermere or See More Business winning.
what a race. backed sit des champs and i think his stamina was stretched on that ground but full credit to the winner. he grinded it out and has the heart of a lion.
unfrotunately we will never know how silvianio conti would have fared if he hadnt fallen. he was still travelling well but how many times have we seen horses hit a brick wall in the last 2 fulrlongs of the gold cup up that hill??

I backed both Bobs Worth & Silviniaco Conti anti post,we will never know what would have happened but you are missing the point of the race,Bobs Worth was outpaced before staying on strongly whilst Silviniaco Conti was cruising! its extremely hard to get a horse off the bridle whilst being off it yourself & behind it.For me financially Bobs Worth made me more money but i strongly feel Silviniaco would have won if he had stood up.
Bobs worth maybe a little horse but he is a terrier and I knew this when I backed him in the Hennessy. I had a good bet on him and we can all make a case for others after the event but that's why this is steeplechasing because if you can't jump the flights in front of you than sorry you cannot win. To myself I think Barry Garaghty always knew he would get there and saved a bit in reserve. He pulled away up the hill. Can you honestly watching the race again see silvianico conti going with him.
Ok the commentary wasn't as good as the great call of 2008 when Denman won and it was far from the best Gold Cup ever won and the winner only ran twice this season. However, I think it's very good not only for racing but for the public that Gold Cup winners are winning the Hennessy. Back in the old days it was the predominant Gold Cup trial. Too often these days do the great chasers avoid handicaps in pursuit of easier level weight assignments. Denman and Bobs Worth are commendable in this way.

Wayne101180 I agree with your comment. I sometimes think Paul Nicholls can be over bullish about his horses, lets face it he has had the good horses in his stable, and now the tide has turned infavour of Nicky. Bobs Worth won this race on ground he does not like.
probably wondered where Kauto was! in all seriousness i backed Bobs Worth hefty.thought it was lost cause.henderson played it down saying softer ground wasn't going to suit.fuckin delightful up the hill though
Peach of a ride by Barry. He gave the horse time to get a second wind, while SDC SC LR were cutting each others throats!! watch again see the BW sticks his neckout to rally .A gritty little horse.
SC made a mistake at the fence at the top of the hill first time. I know he won round Cheltenham as a hurdler, fences are a different ball game, I just wonder is he just a flat track horse? If you look at the Betfred he was under the cosh getting weight from LR, next year looks a corker
I think Bobs Worth only stayed on past beaten horses. I cannot see Bobs worth doing it again at Cheltenham 2014 gold cup. Long Run was by far the best horse but was ridden differently to the way he ran against the great kauto star.
Tidal Bay surely would have won this Gold Cup if fit and given his chance. He gave Bobs Worth 6lbs, and was only beaten just over 3 lengths, and was closing in the Hennessy . He would have loved the ground and uphill finish. Imperial Commander and First Lieutenant also would have been there at the business end yesterday. Gigginstown Should have listened to Mouse Morris. You pay a trainer to train. The Glazers do not pick the team for Sir Alex Ferguson.
How many times have we seen horses pulling double only to fail to run on up the Cheltenham hill once of the bridle.

Had he jumped the 2nd last better and not been blocked before the last SDC could have been a lot closer. Bobs worth was awesome though.
Great race. Superb contest. Mediocre Racecall. Here's a tip for Racing: When it's the pinnacle of that sport give the job to the best caller you have ie Richard Hoiles. This was a really workmanlike call of what could have been a magical moment. Go and have a listen to Simon Holts call on Channel 4. You couldn't believe the difference. Poor performance Racing UK

At 8:33 the jokey of the winner uses the whip with his left hand to stop the runner on the left. He then changes hand and uses the whip with his right hand presumably to stop the challenge from the right..I'm not sure this is allowed or not (perhaps it is) but I'm sure people who spend money betting on these scams of the horseracing are taken for a ride themselves.
You are clueless. Tidal bay was closing bobs worth because he eased up. To say a 12 year old would love the hill is ridiculous. How you can mention bobs worth receiving weight from tidal bay is why he won, yet say imperial commander would have been close when he was beaten by cape tribulation when receiving 10lbs! And were did he finish in the gold cup? Nowhere. And as for first lieutenant, he clearly doesn't get 3m 2f.

best horse won he flew up the hill in heavy ground silviniaco conti might have placed at best...no way would he have won he jumped the 3rd from home like a very tired horse never got up..bobs a worthy winner.
On the bare form he would have been in with a shout but i very much doubt that at 12 years old he would have been good enough. One things for sure Ruby wouldnt have ridden him over SC. Bobs Worth is a horse that just does enough alot of the time, and i still think hed of won the hennessy even if he and Tidal Bay were off the same mark

Bollocks ! After the Lexus, when all the numpty heads on here were arguing over Flemenstar, Sir Des Champs and Tidal Bay, I said it didn't matter as Bobs Worth would win the Cheltenham Gold Cup anyway.
So Bobs Worth emulates Denman to win the RSA Chase, Hennessy Gold Cup and this. You can say now that Nicky Henderson has won the trainer's title but the Grand National is still to come. Silvianico Conti disappointing and a disappointing Cheltenham Festival for Paul Nicholls. For me, Big Buck's injury is a probable reason.

It is not Racing UK's fault that the dreadful Mike Cattermole was commentating. Channel 4 use Simon Holt as their own commentator, while RUK just use the assigned RaceTech at the meeting.
so someone else lost £2,000 on the machine then.

silviano conti had a good chance and might well off won it but he fell and thats just racing

tidal bay would not of won this gold cup he was never better than s conti in nichols and walshs eyes. and he did give bobsworth 6 pounds but bobsworth held him very comfortably in the hennessy and barry purposely used FL in hennessy as a lead horse he could of gone in the lead from 4 out in that race but barry did not want to produce bobsworth to after 2 out. tidal bay would of been beaten 3 lengths on level weights in the hennessy i will say that gold cup would of suited tidal with the ground
