Everyone asking them to do a movie with the original cast, Lin said they obviously filmed it with the original cast a week before they left. So yes the movie is with the original cast! They just haven't published it yet
I think that by “movie” he means essentially: professional footage and editing of the Broadway stage show, WHICH IS FANTASTIC! Eventually, I would love to see a movie treatment of it as well. I’m greedy, I know. :)
Necroglobule I was thinking more along the lines of the Les Miserables movie, but yes, that general idea. :) Speaking of which, how I would love to see the full show footage of the Original Broadway Cast production of Les Miserables. I’m a huge Colm Wilkenson and Frances Ruffelle fan. I’m so glad Hamilton has been preserved that way forever. Hopefully all major Broadway shows will be captured that way from now on.
EDIT: The release date has been changed! Due to COVID-19, it’s being released early on July 3rd, 2020 on Disney+! The Hamilton movie has already been filmed. A week before the OBC started leaving, they professionally recorded the entire musical. Lin said years ago that he will not release it for a while, because he wants as many people to see it in the theatre as possible. So yes, it is with the original Broadway cast and yes, it is a recording of the actual musical, NOT a movie-style version.
@@etta5487 Groff was an OBC, but he was not in the original cast from The Public Theater. The original King George was Brian d'Arcy. However Groff will be in the movie, because he was there when it was filmed.
Marianne Jaffke Groff was King George until April 2016 not just for 3 months the way you wrote it. Groff was nominated for a Tony for originating the role on Broadway, and Lin called that group the original cast in this video, and they bent over backwards making special arrangements for Groff to play the role again when they filmed since Rory had stepped in by then just because Lin wanted all the “Original Cast”. He’s referring to something they already shot back in 2016 so not even sure why we are talking about a different cast in the comments.

What a great idea! That’s the way to do movie adaptations of Broadway shows-just release the filmed musical with the original cast! So simple! Broadway is very expensive and just not accessible to many people so instead of a big budget production with different actors, show the musical the way people saw it in the theater. Much less expensive to produce and I bet they would be much more successful that way!
John Rigs I agree. I personally like to see Stage adaptations because that’s how I originally was written. Movies are fine but to see a Broadway show filmed on the Broadway stage blocked out as it was meant to be, then that me is the truest form of the story.
@@princesslisamarie7860 I think some shows have cinema potential, though. Hamilton particularly would look pretty cool if you put in the budget for costumes and sets to fit the time period in question even if the actors are any and all shapes and sizes.

Thank you so much @lin for talking about us all getting to see the original!!!! I wish I could've but wasn't able to but wow awesome idea to the one who decided to record it!!!!
Well, if you've never seen something on Broadway, it's a whole different FEEL to see a Broadway show live, versus the video version. I was lucky enough to see Phantom of the Opera and then Lion King on Broadway and there was NOTHING like the experience. I went with my chorus class after we fundraised from both trips (poto was in 7th grade and Lion King was my senior year of high school). So part of waiting is to make sure as many people as possible see the authentic version, but then also, yes, the show hasn't lost its popularity and they're still getting crazy numbers for seeing it live, so why would they release a film, when the show itself is still so popular?
*stonks* Real talk though. They could sell tickets for another 10 years at that price. I wish they would just release it. Letting middle class people see it will not kill the demand for rich folks seeing it on Broadway.
There is a question of prestige. If every other musical there is like $400 you wouldn't want to ask for $100. Anyway, he is a good guy (Lin). There is this animated version of the musical on YT. He could have it taken down 2 seconds after it was posted. But he left it there (with some ads, but it doesn't really matter). So many people who cannot go to the US or don't have money to go to Broadway can listen to it now thanks to that. That is very generous. There are streaming services that want you to pay for a 50-year-old TV series, for crying out loud. I will watch the movie if the corona thing doesn't kill me first.

And I was definitely too broke to fly to New York and see it. I'm still too broke for that, actually. Haha. But, if it's still on Broadway, I'd like to go see it in like 3 1/2 years after I finish college.
*stonks*
Real talk though. They could sell tickets for another 10 years at that price. I wish they would just release it. Letting middle class people see it will not kill the demand for rich folks seeing it on Broadway.
OCTOBER 2021
There is a question of prestige. If every other musical there is like $400 you wouldn't want to ask for $100. Anyway, he is a good guy (Lin). There is this animated version of the musical on YT. He could have it taken down 2 seconds after it was posted. But he left it there (with some ads, but it doesn't really matter). So many people who cannot go to the US or don't have money to go to Broadway can listen to it now thanks to that. That is very generous. There are streaming services that want you to pay for a 50-year-old TV series, for crying out loud. I will watch the movie if the corona thing doesn't kill me first.
Didn’t lin already talk about the hamilton movie before? Where he literally said it’s with the original and they filmed it already??
Call Baz Luhrmann to direct the Hamilton movie, please! He is the best to this job!
Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now~🎶

I am a University of Puerto Rico former student, is my alma-matter. Soy una “gallita” de corazón. I love my school, and I love how Lin-Manuel showed understanding of its culture.
Also, can’t wait for the movie!!!
Yes! That sounds like exactly what I’ve been searching for these last few days. A video recording of the original broadway production!
I CAME AS SOON AS I HEARD!!!
Whaaaaaaaaa? All the way from London?

HOLY FRICK YOU DONT KNOW HOW LONG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR A HAMILTON AND AN IN THE HEIGHTS MOVIE!!!!!
I'm so ready for the movie. Imma cry I can't wait.
I was starring at the man on the right thinking "this man reminds me of someone, where did I see him before?" then I proceeded to look half a degree to the left "oh, there it is"
Please drop that sooner than later.. pleaseeeee.
I cannot wait for the Hamilton movie. As a european I never had the chance to at least try and get tickets for the show
I’m so glad Lin also cried when he saw the in the heights trailer. My friend first saw it in a preview before the movie we were seeing in the theater and they just turn to me and just said “I’m going to cry”
HAMILTON MOVIE- OMLLL OH MY
I'm super excited for the movie because I never got the chance to see it with the original cast. I didn't discover Hamilton until the original cast was about to start leaving in a few months. And I was definitely too broke to fly to New York and see it. I'm still too broke for that, actually. Haha. But, if it's still on Broadway, I'd like to go see it in like 3 1/2 years after I finish college. But I do feel so blessed to get to see it with the original cast when Lin finally decides that it's time to release it. ❤
I love Lin-manuel so much and his openness
OMGGG!!! I AM SOO HAPPY!! I literally started crying when I heard they were making a movie with the OG cast!👌👌👌🥰
There should also be a little movie for the deleted songs or just another version of the movie that will include those songs.
i’ve been waiting for years, im so excited!
PLZ LET THIS BE REAL! NOW I'M REALLY EXCITED!!! 😁
If we get a movie we NEED the original broadway cast to come back to do the characters who agrees? ❤️
All y'all ain't paying attention to the video. Stop driving me (and probably others) up the wall with constant "please be og cast!" Lin said it in this video. It's already been filmed, about a week before the og cast started leaving. He said it in the puppies interview. If you want information, pay attention to it when it's being given to you.
I'm always amazed by how much Lin and his dad look alike and even sound the same lol
Looking forward to the movie!
