We should put a shade cloth over the state. Currently we have 6 shade sails up and got another yesterday. We’ll put up when we get all the parts.
Just the other day I was daydreaming about winning the lottery and using all the money to do just that!!

I recently placed a 10' X 20', 90% shade over the patio using t-post with 8' pipe post slide over the t-post to gain height. The patio plants love it. Works great, world of difference here in north Texas.
+Albert C it makes a world of difference! My plants have started blooming again now that I have the shade cloth in place.
Here July 2024 and yes it’s triples again in North Texas. Going to try shade cloth this year! Thanks for the tips!

Im in north texas now too!!! Coming from Southern California and the mountains of Southern California also; I am not used to this extreme sun and heat myself but learning that gardening is so different everywhere ive been! Thank you for this video!
Yeah, southern CA is a lot nicer weather! It’s takes a little bit to adjust but you’ll get it!

I'm preparing to do the same and have put up my Vegepod shade cloth. Some things are doing great and others are struggling. I looked out one day and my big beautiful pot of supertonic vista bubblegum looked fried when the day before they were lush and beautiful. I am not sure what happened. They were getting water and fed and cut back. Looking to see if I can find more somewhere. My dahlias still haven't bloomed but are doing good. three of my little lime are flourishing on one side of the house (North) and one in another area is struggling but the oak leaf hydrangea next to it is doing great. Gardening is certainly strange sometimes. It was 105 here on Sunday! Whew! Praying for rain and cooler temps here in our hot as heck North Texas area. Love your willow tree and thanks for showing all your processes and gardens.

Watching this in 2024 also I'm in Vermont and we are supposed to be in the 90s this week with heat index to 105° so... we are emulating Texas for a few days!

I’m in Utah and we’re in the upper 90’s to low 100’s. Here we are blessed to have it cool down at night, although these next few days it’ll only drop to the 70’s.

I am in the Dallas area and I do not even want to go into my small garden because of the scorcher summer we are having. I had to move some of my potted plants because they are getting burned. My impatients have bit the dust. This summer will probably be one of the hottest on record.

Looks good! Shade cloth is amazing! I covered my big hoophouse last summer, when we had record highs in the 100's for days and days. It helped the sweet peas, but eventually, I gave up and let them go to seed. I hope this works well for you! Great video!

Hi neighbor 👋🏼! That was a great idea to put up shade cloths… I sure hope it takes the stress off your plants.🤞🏼Here in Rowlett, the temps have been between 101 and 105, but I count my blessings every day because I have two large shade trees that pretty much cover my backyard with shade and keep it enjoyable. I have to water my plants frequently, though, and add water to the birdbath and water fountain two or three times a day for the birds. We are fairly close to the lake so that might help with lowering temps, as well, I don’t know. My husband and I still sit on our covered patio in the afternoon, but it’s definitely warm… we need a fan blowing. It’s definitely a rougher summer this year for sure! Stay as cool as you can! ⛱ 🥵

Good job putting up the shade cloths. Hopefully they will help. We're struggling with the heat down here in the Cypress/Houston area, also, with triple digit temperatures. Our grass is turning to straw, even though we are watering whenever we can within our water rationing guidelines. My once beautiful mums look like yours with the flowers burnt crisp and the green leaves baked even though I watered them. Cone flowers, zinnias, diamond frost, vinca, penta, society garlic, dianthus and salvias still blooming! If we don't get some rain soon and temperatures drop, I'm afraid even those will succumb to the extreme weather conditions we're experiencing. Good luck

I feel bad. I'm in Maryland, zone 7, and we are mostly hovering in the mid to high 80's and getting at least 1 - 2" of rain every 5 - 7 days. I've barely run my drip irrigation and my lawn irrigation goes off maybe once a week. I hope I haven't jinxed myself or the rest of Maryland.😄
If I may say so myself, my gardens look the best they ever have and not one daylily or hosta has been chomped on by any deer, and that's saying a lot. We installed deer sprinklers and I spray or put down pellets once every 7 - 10 days. It's been glorious to see everything bloom like I had hoped!!!

Thanks for showing how to do this. I'm expecting to add this for my plants this year and wasn't sure how to install the cloth over the plants. We're in the same garden zone and we had quite a lot of super hot temps last year though not as bad as you in Texas. But still, it gets really hot on my south side.

@@shesamadgardener I think it's a good idea actually! I just bought a super deep bed so I want to put big tomatoes in it and try peppers in the deeper bed etc. I grew things on that side last year in 5 gallon buckets and it really struggled. It's close to the house so I think the siding reflects back. Anyway, I couldn't figure how to extend the shade cloth over top of everything until I saw you set up with poles and zip ties. I want to expand my garden big time this year, so learning how to do all these more advanced things is a big help!

I've lived here in Tx a loooong time, and do not recall it ever reaching these temperatures.
And if it did, it was considered a fluke thing, and it wasn't for more than a day or two.
More bad news-
I saw how "they"
(you know, the proverbial "they")
are saying West Texas weather will be permanently moving over into the Eastern direction of the state.
ugh.
The estimated "line" does not swallow up the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.
But it will be a lot closer!
The "line" will be touching the Western borders of my area, (which is next door to Austin just for reference).
Regardless,
if that does come true,
these super high temperatures might be a permanent thing from now on.
I sure hope the old growth Oaks can adjust...
