I read The Talisman when it first came out and I really liked it. That was so long ago I don't remember anything about it. I like the idea of belonging to a book club but oh man if they pick a book I don't like it's a real chore for me to get through it. I love the classics and have read a lot of them some several times but when it comes to Dickens, I can't stand that man's writing. He'll have 3 pages where he says the exact same thing 12 different ways. He was a show off.
@@lennybuttz2162 That will be the one concern for me: if they pick a book I don’t like. But I’ll deal with it. I agree about Dickens, actually. I’ve read Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities and David Copperfield and indeed I concur with you about his writing.
@@Travsbookshelf Oh man I really struggled with A Tale of Two Cities but I wasn't going to let him defeat me. I read Oliver Twist when I was younger. I started to read Copperfield but just could not do it. I do like other authors from that time.

@@Travsbookshelf HaHaHa I am so glad none of my English teachers were Dicken's fans. His books were on a lot of reading lists but we had a choice of which books we'd read. I only read him because I felt like I was missing out. I got over that feeling.
This sounds great! Hope you have fun with it. I live in a very rural area, and the only book club I know of is a group of senior citizen ladies who meet at the library. And suffice it to say their tastes vary pretty widely from mine. That being said, I've had great experiences with reading books along with folks I've met on BookTube. Quick recommendation: The Gene Wolfe short story "The Island of Dr. Death and Other Stories" makes an interesting companion to "The Island of Dr. Moreau," although they're ultimately about very different things. But anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing how your channel develops. Have a good one!

I will be curious to see how you enjoy the club. I THINK I would enjoy that sort of thing, especially if I click with the people. I own most of the classics you mentioned, but most are also on project gutenberg, so it would be nice to have that option as well.
Yeah clicking with the people will be my main concern at first. I’m not very socially adept most of the time. My anxiety goes nuts. But if I can establish a comfortable rapport with them I usually do fine.
Don't you have a used bookstore in your area? You can buy most classics for a couple of bucks at a used bookstore and they usually have more copies than they want so if you bought a bunch all at once you might even get a deal. I like H.G. Wells I didn't read that book but I've read a bunch of his other books when I was younger and I really liked them. If you wanted to read an animal book why not White Fang? It's an incredible book. Yikes, Lonesome Dove, oh man I couldn't even sit through the mini-series. Good luck with that one. I've read a lot of westerns over the years and enjoyed them but my goodness Lonesome Dove does not appeal to me in the least.
@@lennybuttz2162 No, actually there are no used book stores around me. They’ve all gone out of business as all of the Books-A-Millions and a Barnes and Noble have moved into the area. People also buy their books at places like Walmart or Target as well around here. I hope Lonesome Dove will be worth it. It’s my first western read ever. Friend recommended. As for White Fang, I could read that and knock the whole book out, sure, but I want some variety. Plus, I usually like to not read the same author back to back.

The other one mainly deals with paperbacks, they give you credit for bringing in your used books. They have an incredible selection. You can always find used books on ebay for a good price. I used to buy a lot of books at auctions, rummage sales and flea markets. I haven't read a western in a long time but when I was a teenager I read a bunch of them. I liked them because they were a quick read and often times very thrilling. Lonesome Dove was really popular but I didn't like the author's style.

I never plan what books to read, after I finish a book , whatever I’m interested in at that moment is what I pick.

Interesting idea for a club. Enjoy Lonesome Dove. I thought it was wonderful. I think you’ll be surprised by how fast it goes. It’s hard to put down.
