Try a large gold steelee. They have always out fished spinners for coho when I use them. Coho absolutely go out of their way to hammer them. Many times chased them right up to bank then smashed them.
NICE! Was at that exact spot Nov. 2 last Saturday and much Coho success including about a 12 pounds slab!! That first one was most likely a big Coho. The Chinook in that system take their sweet time and are kinda dark entering. A little! Never ever seen Chum in that river. Been fishing it since 1976. Back then it use to have a huge run of Sockeye!! Good call hitting the back of the bucket. The Coho like to hang tail in the rapids for some reason. Hooked into some mid rapid. Cleos and Blue Fox! Tight Lines! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
One of my favorite rivers, so much access and space! I got eyes on the first one and it was very colored up hence why I assumed Chinook but I could be wrong. I definitely didnt expect to get Chum in there either but I had fished for them earlier and figured id mention them haha Nice work getting into a few there! I'll be back soon to try my luck again. Thanks for watching!
I’ve got to know where you got that lure! Such a great pattern. The weight looked good too. Would you mind sharing what brand that is? I fish a lot of Steelhead Slammers (local company from Southern Oregon) and they’ve always worked great.
It's a Blue Fox in a color something like midnight purple or northern lights or something different like that haha I cant remember the exact name. Then I added the Hoochie on after and they seemed to like that!
I think you're right and that was my biggest issue. Fishing 12lb test to 15lb braid so probably too light for the scenario. I'm from Ohio so still pretty clueless about salmon in general lol
Also - maybe bringing the fish in a little fast. They need to be tuckered out when they reach the bank. And be ready for them to make a break for it when they get close cause for some reason they don't like to be out of the water.
Isn't it so that once salmon swim up the rivers, that they quit eating anything? And that the only way to catch them with lures is to snag them? And only if you snag it in their mouth you can keep it? From what I think that I know; your lure is not gonna get bitten in by a salmon. But you might snag one.
Thats not exactly correct. They are still very aggressive and territorial so they will "bite" lures that swim past them out of aggression! still counts as eating they are just doing it for a different reason. Also, the guys that fish big baits like eggs and chunks of shrimp etc will also still get eaten, whether thats out of competition to eat other fishes eggs and give their eggs a better chance or hunger is up for debate.
Unfortunately I cant accept payment for a trip as I dont have my guide license. Shoot me a message on IG or email though, I try to get out and fish with folks here and there!
Good job
Much appreciated!!

What size was it
@@Plandonb Great question... haha 7/16ths? I honestly cant remember
Tighten up that drag a little bit so you can at least get a decent hook set. Hook sets with single points are usually better than with trebble hooks.

That makes sense. I appreciate the pointers! Got out today and caught my first Chinook and Chum, super stoked 🙌

Guess you haven't been salmon fishing they chase and strike your lures to the boat or to the shore you can see them do this
They hit it hard too!
Tighten that drag
Landed my first solo salmon in that spot.
Thats what people are suggesting and it makes a lot of sense! I'll try to really punch that hook through next time. More videos to come
