- There are lots of ways to make tuna salad, and I’m sure you already have yours. Is it the way your grandmother did it, or your favorite deli or most treasured diner? Whatever that way is for you, I’m certain it’s the best way. I understand. But I don’t care. Tuna salad is ordinary, it’s affordable, it’s a pantry staple, and it can be deeply personal. This is how I make mine, and how I turn it into a very adventurous MELT.

I'm a homemade tuna salad FREAK. I love to include lemon zest, lemon juice, kewpie mayo, dijon mustard, homemade fermented hot sauce, a little soy sauce and a little Worcestershire sauce. So good on little wheat thins for a gathering.
Worcestershire sauce never occurred to me! I may have to give that a try. Neither did soy. The hot sauce I cannot do anyway. Thanks for the inspiration.

Your additions seem yummy and very different from my tuna salad. My Mom used to put all kinds of things in tuna. Olives for one. Pickle relish for another. Mayonnaise haters crack me up. Mayonnaise in my opinion is one of the best sauces/emulsions ever invented. I find mayonnaise haters aren't happy until they tell everyone around them (every time the mayo comes out mind you:) that they hate mayonnaise.
We're gluten free at our house so we do our tuna melt a bit differently. We start with very fresh corn tortillas and make a cheesy tostada in the cast iron skillet. When the cheese is all hot and bubbly I take them out of the pan and plate them. Then I pile the cold tuna on top of the cheese. The tuna stays sort of cool and the cheese and tortilla get very hot and melty and crispy. I do use cheddar but if I had muenster cheese around I would use that too. Put a bunch of hot sauce on top and enjoy.

That looks fabulous, Carla. I'm going to try this! When I lived in L.A. in the early 80s, there was a diner not far from the Labrea Tar Pits that had bacon on their tuna melt. It was mind blowing at the time. But this takes it up another notch!

I made tuna melts yesterday! My tuna salad recipe uses greek yogurt (bc I often don't have mayo), LOTS of finely diced celery, a sprinkle of chia seeds to absorb any extra liquid, and perhaps a reckless amount of relish. Goooooo TUNA!

I was literally making a tuna melt when this video popped up on my feed, and started playing. I’m using part of a baguette from a local French bakery. I don’t have iceberg but I’ll try it next time so I can go full on adventure melt.

I make like a tuna salad but with smoked kippers and bbq sauce! When I do make tuna salad sandwiches I make them with mayo, dill, Indonesian sambal and pepper.

I am So making adventure melt! I love tuna melts anyway, but have never thought of using horseradish, pepperoncinis, hot sauce, and lemon slightly pickled shallots! I use lemon and shallots anyway... Although I do use Duke's mayo. Not a southerner, but it is the superior mayo 😋

Why is nobody talking about the fact that Carla is actually Louise Belcher from Bob’s Burgers grown up? Same voice, she works with food (as Louise would as a tribute to daddy Bob), and she loves her family, just like Louise does. They have the same energy and I’m here for it.

So many people have complimented me on and enjoyed my tuna melts that i now have a reputation in the building. Not to brag but it's true.
You simply MUST try Palace Diner. I can trust it is not overhyped as many foodie destinations are. Good, simple food made delicious and exciting. Their fried chicken sandwich is the stuff of dreams.
Chopped spanish olives and/or capers, celery for crunch, thinly sliced jalapeno and Dukes mayonnaise ... and only tuna packed in oil. When sweet Vidalia onions are available, they're yum in a tuna salad sandwich.

I hate mayo, but I still watched video. 1. I typically substitute a vinegarette for the mayo and 2. I love Carla!
