As a break dancer and robotic dancer who has done the moonwalk for many years, I can say that is some slick and smooth moonwalking talent right there. He gets the 'Cool as' status from me!

      Hey Benji!
Check out Mickey Rooney break dancing in the 1939 movie “Boys Town”.
The scene is near the beginning.
Mickey is running away when he spots two pretty girls and changes his mind.To impress them, he does a break dance!
He even pops and locks at the end!
      Super cool! 😁👍

@@jonathandoelander6130 , The dance move has been around since the 1930's.
It has multiple variations that are all similar. You can appear to be moving backwards, holding ground, running in place etc. They're all based on the same principal leg movements to create an action, or illusion of an action. Heres a video of several variations of progression going back as far as the 1930's.

I assume it was a catchy name to get the attention of rabid fans on MTV. In that sense, it sure was successful. A fifty year old move invented by tap dancers reignited by Michael Jackson, and now mostly associated with him.
Gotta give him credit.....he did it well, and at the perfect time: The MTV Awards show in front of millions.
      That was brilliant.

I’m a dancer & dance teacher (emphasis on hip hop-self trained in that, and then training in many other genres & minored in dance in college so I had to take dance history), i can confirm that maaany moves do end up being called many different things. Especially in solo vernacular jazz like this & hip hop because they weren’t created in a dance studio. And also because many that have name discrepancies evolved from each other. And alllso because different regions of the US sometimes end up calling moves different things. I tend to go with what I learned something as through the years for hip hop, and for jazz (because Ididn’t experience that in real time- I’m not *that* old lol ) I tend to go with the majority consensus. Long way of saying- some people probably did call it the camel walk, even though the general consensus says the camel walk is the three step move. I’ve always known this move (in hip hop) as the cloud walk. What it’s not, and never has been, is the moonwalk! 😂😂

Mate, In no reality was Michael Jackson influenced by Elvis Presley. He never mentioned Presley in one single interview as to being an influence on him in terms of style, singing, artistic vision and most certainly not dancing. Elvis Presley was a comsumate copier of other acts, particularly black acts from shanty juke joints where he picked up their moves, vocal inflections etc....and brought it to conservative white audiences who were ignorant to Black American musical culture. Jackson is in the Song writers Hall Of Fame, The Dance Hall Of Fame and holds over 750 musical achievement awards over the course of his career. Presley does not belong in the same paragraph, let alone sentence with an artist as accomplished as Jackson and I happen to admire Presley. James Brown and Jackie Wilson are the most prominent names that are mentioned by Jackson and his family members when influences are cited.

It's true, and when the "Moonwalk" was taught to Michael Jackson, he spent months upon months practicing and perfecting it until he finally performed the dance move on the Motown 25th Anniversary performance. Albeit, the dance move that Michael Jackson did was widely known as the moonwalk, in reality, it was called the, "backslide".

Michael Jackson already said he took from Jitter Bug, and many other dance forms from the past and put twists on them to make it his own. Yes Michael Jackson took lessons from the past. As well as his music.

That is Levon Helm. That's where The Band came into existance, as Ronnie Hawkins' Band. He had guys from the south in his band. They got homesick for the south, and left one by one. The Band took their places, one by one.
How lucky for us! The Band is one of the GREATEST.

The skill is far older, going back to traveling mimes of old, amusing young and old alike, Decroux, with Barrault, refined l’isolation, the comically exaggerated, slow-motion stylization of isolated actions, with stop-motion cæsuræ that delighted audiences. It demanded exquisite body-control skills. They, and their pupil Marcel Marceau, popularized French Mime world-wide. I don’t think it was called “Moonwalk” until Apollo reminded oldsters of Vaudeville and Silent-Film performances by Chaplin and Keaton.

This move is so smooth and timeless when done right. If you look up the live footage of David Bowie for Aladdin Sane from 1974, he also does it on stage and looks so chill with his hand on his hip. You can see his backup singers in the background aren't as good at it as he was, haha. Peter Murphy of Bauhaus used to do it on stage as well, he probably picked it up from their Bowie influence, but another singer that just looks so chill when he pulls it off. Both of those are still before MJ busted it out for Billy Jean.
