My father was a Flt Sgt air gunner serving on Wellingtons, based in Egypt, On VE day they were told they were off to Tiger force, but they dropped a gunner off each crew. My dad won or lost the toss, depending on how you look at it and ended back in the UK looking after German POW;s. But his cre never got there because of the Atomic bombs.
Wow! I have found many things in the least expected places. Fantastic that you found this incredible jacket for that price. Very happy for you on this one. I would put an average price on something like this over here, easily at $250.00 or more.
Really? That is where I found some antiques! Walking down the alley at my house the neighbors throw out some pretty good stuff. With some cleaning and minor repairs, you can keep it, sell it, or trade it. Older people who have garage sales are the best for a chance at military, or firearms and ammo.
Those type of shops are great for finding bargains, because first off they don't care much about militaria and are a bit naive to the value of many of their items. I bought a luftschutzgeset helmet with no decal (probably removed after the war) for only £40.
yep the guy I bought the helmet from was completely oblivious to it. He got it from a collector that had to sell his helmets because his wife told him to. Got it in a vintage fair near Kings Cross.
Very nice ! I have just acquired a 1948 dated OA Jacket in mint condition - complete with the serge belt with brass buckle for £15 . The only insignia on the Tunic are the albatrosses. All the buttons match and are King crown. Would this be the correct pattern for ww2 ?
Hi this comment isn't directly related to this video, but I'm looking for one of those NECA 300 Spartan capes you reviewed some years ago. I can't seem to find a second hand one for sale anywhere. Can you help with that?
good luck with that one!!!!, it took me ages to find an example, had to get mine secondhand all the way from someone in California, unfortunately finding one now is pot luck, all you will have to do is keep searching
Could I use a post war blue background and silver albatross for ww2 reenactment, kind of don’t want to unstich the insignia as my post war (kings crown) tunic is in perfect condition. Thanks in advance.
Great find. Curious why the strip of medal ribbons has been sewn on upside-down though. You say it's a Staff Sergeant's tunic but in the RAF shouldn't that be called Flight Sergeant? But well done for calling it an albatross, many people incorrectly call it an eagle! Love your collection and the variety.
of course, yep, flight sgt for raf, staff sgt for army...my mistake, appreciate the correction. unknown why its upside down as its been period fitted!!!
Great tunic.
thanks

well done, what a bargain and all original. Will it clean up to parade standard or would that damage it true value?
its best left...modern cleaning substances can affect the cloth and stitching, so as theres no damage its best left original
Great uniform
its a nice example

Many folks call it a 'shite hawk'.
