Count me in for loving this!!! The funk, soul, and OMG the horns. The vocals are fire. Barry is a wonder. The chorus is crazy good. Listen what they can do with the word "find." "Spirits" will always be one of my favorites. This captures 1979 and so much more for me. I will look forward to "Until."
falsetto - chest - natural - it don’t matter - Barry can do whatever he wants!
I remember this during my disco dancing years. The falsetto is what sets The BeeGees aside in my humble opinion. Love it!
The production of this masterpiece album was brilliant; every last note, breath, downbeat and cutoff. It is an incredible feat of artistry.
This is an awesome album. Yes, it is all about that falsetto, but who cares those songs are fire. As said before I prefer Robin's voice, but this album is amazing. I'm in the falsetto overused camp, but I don't mind listening to the Spirit album once in a while. Gotta appreciate their talent and work ethic, even on the no so favorite songs. ❤️

Hi, my friend. What you say about people loving or detesting falsetto is true. The point is the extremely highs reached by Barry and his brothers. It doesn´t sound like squirrels. Falsetto is technically a flatted sound but these guys make something absolutely different and magic: tremulous, vibrant falsetto. And that´s unique. They suddenly switch from chest voice to head and falsetto and that´s not usual. Analyze R&B, disco and many black style from E,W&F, Shalamar, Prince, etc. and you´ll be back to Bee Gees. They are all monsters. But Bee Gees doesn´t stay in your ears. They go staright to your heart and blood. Always.

There are fans of falsetto and non-fans. Same for voices that have extreme vibrato or tremolo. I like both. But I'm biased for my Bee Gees. They can sing the phone book sounding like Tiny Tim!! I'm with you, Chad-- we're Bee Gees fans for goodness sake. We don't make things personal-- one Bee Gee over another. They're all three our guys!!

"Search, find, no stone unturned........". Sometimes in my life, I had to do so. For excample by first time hearin' falsetto-singin' of the band I've been in love since 1968 as a 14 year old boy. But then I got it. It's bringin' in many elements of funk and expanded their different styles.

Hey Chad, I bought the 'Spirit Having Flown' album on the day it came out in 1979 because of 'Tragedy', and dug the whole album, and THIS song was always my favorite 'ALBUM TRACK' on the record. Oh Yeah (Sorry Chad) too HELL with the HATERS!

True…this song is loaded with falsetto. Yet, the vocal and instrumental arrangements are so good that it is easy to overlook the use of falsetto in the entire song.
Bee Gees with their amazing falsetto were the late 70’s and early 80’s. That was the “falsetto” prime for them for certain.
Looks like the only song from Spirits you haven't reacted to is Until. I really like the music on this one.

I am in the category of absolutely loving this album, and it's funny but the only song missing for reaction 'Until' is the one that I like the least, not saying is not good, as you said it's the Bee Gees. Great reaction Chad, thank you for this one!!!

They had to adapt from their 60s and early 70s style! They found a very successful style with that amazing falsetto lead and the falsetto harmonies! Such energy and emotion! But they had to adapt away from the falsettos in order to maintain their popularity! They had to use their voice through writing and producing other artists. Another genius move!

They had reached a point in their career that they could take more time in the studio to perfect every detail and create a more comprehensive album, and Spirits Having Flown is nothing less that a work of art. Each song is distinct from the other, incorporating different falsetto techniques and high degrees of difficulty. The Gibb-Galluten-Richardson production team became highly sought after. The use of falsetto is the feature that ties it all together. There is not another album on earth even remotely like it, and likely never will be. It is as rare as the Gibb brothers themselves. College courses could be taught on the Bee Gees, and specifically on Spirits Having Flown. It’s a work of musical genius deserving of respect, even if the falsetto or 70’s style is not one’s favorite. Criticisms, especially if from fans, are like making them (Barry, the family, band members, producers and engineers) and their 70’s fans relive the backlash over and over and over. Great reaction, as always. Looking forward to the next.

Another great reaction Chad! I find I like songs from this era more when I mix them up with other eras. If I listen to the entire album in one sitting this style can be a bit much for me, but there is no arguing the talent and innovation. One of my favorite things about Bee Gees is the variety and I love that you mix it up. Thanks for another Bee Gee marathon weekend!

I love this fun, upbeat song! I wouldn't say that “SHF” is one of my favorite albums, but do love most of the songs on it. In fact, “Too Much Heaven” is one of my favorite Bee Gees songs and nearly one of my very top favorites. “Love You Inside Out” and “Living Together” are really high up there too! Why am I asking that.! Cos that song was supposed to be one of the Spirits album!
For several reasons it haven’t been.
However, Barry, Maurice, Robin, and Andy recorded that song together for the After Dark album.!
What makes it sooo special, beside the fact it’s a wonderful song..! It’s MAYBE and to me FOR SURE the first (and very very sadly, the only song where the 4 Gibb sing and harmonize together..!! )
As you know, it was planned for Andy to join the G’s as an official member, after Fever..!
We all know it very sadly never happened..!
Long story short, that song Desire is FOR SURE the only time the Fab 4 sang and harmonized together on a record..!! Hearing Andy harmonizing with his bros is nothing but AMAZING..!! and give us the taste of what the G’s could’ve sound with Andy’s vocals..!

Yes, Barry's falsetto was probably the best in pop/rock history, but when he started using that range, it was to add something extra to an existing vocal or harmonizing. Even on the Fever songs, they did natural harmonies to compliment the falsetto lead. On Spirits, all three were singing in falsetto which just changed the sound, for better or for worse.
"Search, Find" does work with the falsetto lead, but that leads into "Stop, Think Again" which could have easily been sung in natural voices. It lost it's special appeal when almost everything was falsetto.
Spirits could have been the greatest pop album of all time, but alas, it's dated now because of the saturation of falsetto.
I don't care about saturation or trends. This will always be my favorite Bee Gees album!! 🎶❤❤❤🎶

This song has a very good beat, and instrumentation!!😉 The falsetto can be overwhelming to me, though. However, there are a couple of songs where I think Barry nailed it using his falsetto! I like it best when he switches back and forth, alternating his natural chest voice with the falsetto. It has more diversity and depth of sound and not so overwhelming with the High falsetto!? (But that's just my personal preference, and other BeeGee fans actually love Barrys falsetto! Where as I Much Prefer Barry's natural and beautiful baritone!)
