Sure do brother Tim I love watching little house back in the days and Melissa sue Anderson Mary ingalls was my character in the series her eyes are so mesmerizingly beautiful😂😂😍😍😘😘.
Melissa should have won. She is being so gracious here. Sada was good but Mary was better. Sada was a veteran actress which would give her a huge edge over a child actress.
I watched as a child.... And now as an adult.... My husband and I are watching it every weekday when it's on!! A couple weeks ago he found the entire series on dvd.... Now we can watch each as much as we want!
Aww Melissa Sue makes very beautiful comments about Matthew Laborteaux beginning at 5:25!! Great to hear her lovely thoughts about him and I so agree, Matthew was a truly talented actor!! :)
When i watched this as a young boy in the '70s, i was so in love with Melissa, she had such a lovely face & way about her. It is great to see her as an adult. She is still very attractive & seems a nice person. Great interview.
There should seriously make some more family TV programmes again like little house and the waltons. Where's all that love gone with the family TV programmes , my mum told me.
She was very diversified. She did an ABC Afterschool Special and she worked with Marion Ross twice. She even was a guest judge on Dance Fever. She did James At 15 with the late Lance Kerwin, then she did a Horror Movie called Happy Birthday To Me, and another show about child geniuses.
She has the same birthday as my sister -- September, 26, 1962 ----- so she's 46. My sister thought that it was pretty neat that she has/had the same birthday.
After Melissa's character Mary went blind they had some really great episodes. But eventually her character seemed to be utilized less and less. I often wondered how Melissa Sue felt about that and if it was her decision to leave the show. It's interesting to know that she left because she felt she and her character were being pushed to the background and basically used as a prop.
+PatrickLHawkins If leaving the show meant that she got more acting opportunities elsewhere, then I understand it. I hope she didn't just leave because the spotlight wasn't on her as much anymore. They still did plenty of episodes involving Mary at the blind school, and the show is meant to be focused on Laura, especially during her teenage years. I really enjoyed the scenes where Mary was "somewhere she didn't belong" because they replicated the situation in the books where Laura is always describing what she sees to Mary and painting a picture for her verbally. That part of the books was always so interesting and I wish the show had done more of that, it was an opportunity for Laura and Mary to become closer with each other. On a side note it's also too bad the girls playing Carrie couldn't act, because the Laura/Carrie relationship in the books was really nice, they did a lot of things together once Carrie was older.
first of all, no man is perfect, we all have our little eccentricities that make us human. Secondly, it was HIS show so he wanted to make it to his liking.
Michael was the showrunner so you can't just chill and let the cast and crew wing it, lol. But I don't think Melissa was bad-mouthing him, just her being honest and remembering as a teen. And it is normal for teens to rebel against authority.
i love little house on the prairie im only 17 but still i always wanted to be lara or mary i always thought they were so pretty and nice i mean to have a good heart like that to just accepting to every1 they need to do more orianted shows again
Michael Landon was a good actor, director, producer, but a lousy man. He dumped his first wife for an extra on Bonanza, then dumped her for a slutty make-up artist on Little House. That's not what I call a role model.🎈🎈
she still looks the same. when was this interview done? why was she the only one nominated for an Emmy? What about the spectacular Michael Landon and Karen Grassle?!
I'm glad she admits to Michael Landon being controlling. IT was his show, but it was Laura Ingalls Wilder's stories, who was very fond of her father and started her books as a way to preserve his memory and his stories. Michael Landon should've respected that more - the gruff but loving bearded adventurer - instead he made Pa rather vain, with his coiffed hair and unbuttoned designer shirts (Pa would've never shown his chest, and men always wore vests - shirts were considered underwear!)
He also took too many liberties about the facts of the books, First of all Mary did go to the blind school but she NEVER married and Pa & Ma Ingalls NEVER adopted any other children and never had a son except for the one that died.
@@jessicasherwood4943 It does appear that way. However, from the way I see it, Michael was aware of it and I love what he did because otherwise, the show may not have been as successful. He touched on things that are missing in this day and age...family, close friends, neighbours helping one another, faith, morals and values. He touched on sensitive subjects like racism, addiction and rape. Yes, no question, the show was off base from the realities of the non-fictional Ingalls family but Michael's creation and vision of the show is what made it a timeless classic to this very day.
@@andrebeck1444 Albert was a cute kid and other kids brought onto the show were cute. It was a way to keep the show going and make things interesting. The second season of the show was the worst, uninteresting and boring episodes save for a few IMHO. Apparently, it was almost canceled. He did need to change things up and the third season was much more interesting. Glad it was not canceled early on because the seasons moving forward were great.
I really enjoyed this interview, but I disagree with her statement where she said that Matthew overcame Autism. Autism isn't something you can just get rid of. You can be at a higher functioning level where it's not as noticeable as other types of Autism, but it's not something that can be magically cured.
He was a Scorpio so...LOL;) But yeah, I suspected that she had mixed feelings. I think he favored Melissa Gilbert. Also she was very effusive about Matthew L. in comparison. But guarded regarding Michael. Which makes sense. It wouldn't be considered very nice to bash someone who has passed away and who is beloved by the public. She seems like an honest person overall.
One has to wonder why Melissa Gilbert and Alison Arngrim have an axe to grind with Melissa Anderson,....could it be because she got an Emmy nomination and they didn't? .
+RovingRoy I doubt that, though there probably was a tinge of jealousy from some castmates (maybe even Michael Landon). I think it's more just the fact that sometimes people's personalities just don't naturally get along great with certain other types of personalities, even if they're both good people.
One doesn't overcome autism. Originally autistic, always autistic. You're autistic for life but you learn to live with it and find coping skills to deal with life. Today is world autism awareness day.
Oh, PLEASE. Do your research. The TV Little House series had as little to do with the reality these historical figures faced in the late 1800s as the automated watering system that was used on the set in Simi Valley to make the slopes green had to do with actually living w/o indoor plumbing, as much of our planet CONTINUES to do. Anderson was a very competent child/adolescent actor, no question. But to compare the fantasy Landon produced for our TVs and our wallets as fact is as specious as saying everyone in the US *currently* has access to safe water, public education, etc. In real life Charles Ingalls was an unsuccessful itinerant farmer who, tragically, had to cope with both natural disasters and the rapidly changing politics of that time. He was only lifted out of poverty by his daughter, Laura, once she had done the same for her husband, her child, and herself after she became an adult. In real life after Mary Ingalls became blind due to an illness (NOT genetics) Mary had zero/ few options beyond living w/ her parents until their deaths, then living w/ a younger sister until Mary’s death. Blindness at that time was a major financial liability for almost all in North America. Marriage was out of the question. Every farm the real Charles Ingalls started failed. He packed up his family and left the state in the middle of the night at least twice per public records b/c he was defaulting on his bills. As an adult Laura was far more financially successful, rewriting a fair amount of her family history to be more palatable to the newly created youth book market in the early 1900s. The TV show was safe and entertaining for those of us who grew up watching it. I have no expectations that any of the child actors to understand what happened to the historical characters they represented. However, listening to Ms Anderson’s total focus on herself and her role in this TV show, often excluding or ignoring the perspectives of others, and her failure to read a single book about the real Ingalls family, while extolling the show as being an accurate representative of Western European pioneer life is as embarrassing to her as to all those in North America who actually researched the history of the works that gave her this platform.

Enjoying this interview it gives a good very very good history of her life as an actress and the difficult period of the teen years nothing like now
