The same thing happened to me in Germany, I needed a spare part for the bike but by mid day on the Sat all the shops were shut, same on Sun and the Monday was a holiday. It was driving me wild. Here in UK we are used to basically, shops 24/7. The Asian community revolutionised retailing in this country.
Oh no! What broke? Was the bike still semi rideable? I know the feeling, I just kept praying it wasn’t going to rain again and thinking I should have brought my own tent!
@@TheGirlGoneNomad August 2020. Turns out that was my first 100 mile ride! I only lived in Munich for a year, but the rides felt great as every direction had something to offer. I never managed the dream of riding to Innsbruck and back. Probably that would require a an overnigher :)
Hello, always enjoy your videos. Very happy to see Ali back with you on this trip - he is funny. Loved the drama with the thunderstorms and leaky tent - looking forward to seeing what happens in part 2. What bikes are you using?
Was out cycling on my Sonder, called Patricia. She's a gem! Yes Ali is quite the joker, and a great buddy to cycle with. Great to hear you enjoyed the video and I hope you enjoy the next one just as much!
I missed these uploads Betty. I thought a good start as you arrived, built your bikes and passed through Munich. It certainly looked good. But what's this, MSR failing you? How old is that tent? Mind you I use tents that are 10 years old almost. I gotta stick around to see what tent you get. Hope it's a good one. All the best. Mark
Hi Mark, how are you? Lovely to hear from you. The MSR tent was 5 years old, but Ali had been living out of it when he was travelling, so it had had a fair bit of use. Though he was still very upset that his re-waterproofing hasn't worked! You must take great care of your tents from them to last!
What a great adventure, im heading round Normandy on the bike this year then a trip starting in Munich next. Whats the bikes your using, i see they are Sonders but not sure which?
Thanks 😊 Sounds like you have some great trips lined up, I’ve never been to Normandy, where’s the route taking you? The bikes are Sonder Caminos, they’ve been great. Ride well even when loaded up. What bike do you have currently?
@TheGirlGoneNomad im riding from Gloucestershire to Portsmouth, then a ferry to Cherboug, through Carentan, round the beaches to Bayeux then back home from Caen. Im using my old Triban with some Hunt Wheels but its got many miles on it and probably only had one trip left 😀
@@sminettsmith What a great route you have lined up! Heading to the beach is a grand plan, is this in the summer? This going to be the final voyage for the Triban you think? I'm sure it's served you well! I hope if you continue to shop around for a new set of wheels you are successful. I borrowed a Sonder from Alpkit for a trip to Cornwall before buying mine. If you just wanted to have a go on a different bike I know they do free day trails from the shop. Anyway, hope you have good week!
@TheGirlGoneNomad yes im there in the early summer , looking forward to it. It may well be the ladt trip for the trusty Triban but i dont like giving bikes up!
Haha thanks, though I’d give it a 5* rating as far as benches go, kept us dry! We booked a hotel for the start and end of the trip, then after that just hunted out camping site and spots along the way. Meant there was no pressure to hit certain distances and we could make detours. Ali couldn’t quite tell why it leaked, he’d pretty much lived in it when travelling a couple of years ago, so maybe just old? Have you even had a tent just lose it’s waterproofness?
It was a real shame, it had been well used but still didn’t think it would completely lose all waterproofness! Do you have a tent brand you’d recommend?
@@TheGirlGoneNomad i got many tents msr included i really like tarp tent .. brand .. scarp 2 .. but my main tent is love and is bombproof and has lots of space for cooking and can handle snow rain storm is a hot tent only weight 1.2 kgs only one pole which never fails
@@TheGirlGoneNomad ps i really like the msr tour tent but it leaked lol you can just buy waterproof coating and redo your tent the best brand is uk company i have try to remmber the brand name
Would really love a tarp, feel like it would be very flexible and easy to set up in lots of different spots, also have lots of room for cooking in the dry. A hot tent that weighs only 1.2kg that is impressive! I’m sure that’s a great set up
Tent troubles! Looks like the start of a great adventure...if a bit of a soggy one.
We did get rained on quite a bit, both in and out the tent! But all part of the fun hey 😊

I have ridden to that spot and returned to Munich. Probably one of my longest trips. That's a beautiful area to ride through.
Ah nice, when did you do this ride? It is absolutely beautiful, such a lovely part of the world!

What is your packing list? As it looks like you're carrying almost nothing😊
