Today we look at the Canon RF 28-70 F2 L Series Zoom Lens. Easily one of the best camera lenses that has ever been made. Portrait, Landscape, Wildlife, Street, This lens does it all. What is your current go to lens of choice???
You can do the panorama merge in lightroom, and it's much faster.
I always have a 15-35 on my EOS R and it covers 95% of all my usage. I really like shooting wide but currently thinking about picking up the 70-200
28-70 f2 To big and heavy! ((

@@mantulis7767 Only people who have zero stamina or strength whine about the weight of this lens. If you complained about the price, that would be understandable.
True, it's the price of 5 primes
Depending on which prime ^^ An RF85 DS costs exactly the same (and is absolutely worth the price)
Not 5 L primes...
You'll need 5 cameras for your 5 primes hahaha
Incredible vid! Super helpful and I love your enthusiasm
Nice video, man, agree completely. This lens is stellar! I debated forever about getting it, but finally pulled the trigger and couldn't be happier!
Thank you so much for this video ! Looks like a beautiful lens xx
Super helpful and gorgeous B-roll examples!
Hows it been going sawyer? I can’t believe I missed this video! I’ve just been working a lot. I love that shirt man! Like your new look man :)
Your a good communicator. Thanks for the vid!
Great review! This lens is magic!
I have one and can agree that the negatives DO NOT outweigh the positives. It performs flawlessly no matter what I ask of it.
Good vid, helped heap!
Incredible lens, I’ve had mine for 7 months now and I’m completely blown away with the quality - and yes good point filters are difficult to find, I’m still trying to find a pro mist 95mm but portraits at 28 f2 are a game changer!
Great review! I have bought a RF 50mm 1.2 and a RF 85 1.2 .. your video just made me thinking again if I should get this 28-70mm too.
Your passion and love for this lens is so big, I literally “saw your heart ❤️ man” 🙃
Great review! 👍 and subscribed
Hey bro great to see you again. Hope you had a great Christmas and just wanted to wish you a very Happy New year and may 2021 bring you much success. Stay safe and catch up again real soon.
you've earned 1 sub my good men, keep it up and i just might lick on the bell hehe
Solid review 👍🏻 I pulled the trigger on the 24-70 because I couldn’t get the 28 to balance on my gimbal. Watching this made me have second thoughts though lol
Lol, same here and still get second thoughts too, but the 24-70 is producing some great shots.
Thanks for the review! Looking to get the R5 and this lens. Just doing my YT research on the lot and just binged a few of your vids! Excited for more videos 🤙🏼
You might want to also look into getting the battery grip. With a heavy lens on the front, it'll help counter-balance and give you more to hold on to.
I’m curious what you do for a living that justifies a $10,000 purchase?
Hi Sawyer, thank you for putting out amazing content. I’ve been looking at this lens and the DZOfilm 50-120 zoom to live on my Canon C70. My only concern is focus breathing. What’s your opinion on the focus breathing on this lens. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Great perspective, Sawyer! I got to demo the RF 28-70 f/2 with an R5 last weekend. It HUGE and $$$$. And I want it!
Thanks for sharing tips for making it a 15mm to 85mm. Giving me more reasons to love it. This video by far is the best to show why its like having 4 prime lenses.
i’ve owned this lens for a year and every word in this review is true. i’ve pretty much welded this lens to my A camera (an R5). the only hard part is finding a copy, since they quickly sell out, which should tell you all you need to know about the value you get from this lens
An amazing lens... I fought myself for almost 2 years because it is huge, heavy and expensive. I finally bought it in september. What I can say after 2 months and half: I LOST 2 YEARS !
Great review Sawyer! Love your content! So glad I purchased this lens! Despite the bulk and weight, this lens is the one I grab the most.
Me too chris!!! What are u currently into shooting???
@@sawyerhartman I shoot about everything but am passionate about travel and landscape photography. I'm dabbling in videography as well.
@@sawyerhartman great tip on the photomerge with this lens! I broke out an old Nodal Ninja I had in a box and gave it a try. This opens up a whole new world for this lens! Always learning!!
Sawyer great video! I heard you mentioned late in the video the filters for a 95mm. I have a uv filter from Breakthrough Photography and an ND And Polarized 95mm from Altura and B+W on Amazon.
I used Breakthrough for all my lenses for durability.
At 95mm it is a little pricey but it is worth it to protect my 3000$ lens! ✌🏻
Ok but what is the setup you use for recording your self? the detail are amazing
So expensive but so damn tempting!! 😍❤️ ... maybe one day haha
Got this lens last year, it’s so hood man!
this photo stacking tip was the most valuable i heard in a long time. thank you very much! ist there a 28-70 f2 from any other brand?
No. There is no otger 28-70mm f2.0 from other brands.
With you 100%. I have all Canon L Zooms. I bought the 28-70 and keep it on one body. Best Zoom from canon ever. It has a look that people say wow when you show the shot on the back of the camera. Can’t describe it. I have the 24-70 and don’t use it anymore. Great review.
Omg i hadn't seen a video of yours in almost 6 years you've changed so much it's crazy to see you're still doing videos here unlike others I'd watch from that youtube era 😱
I hit play on this and instantly was like “what the f***!” Until he started talking
Nice take. I own the 28-70 and it's my favorite lens, ever, period.
Amazing video! I have this Lense. Any 95 mm filter you recommend? Or have u used step down rings before? (95-82mm step down rings)
Looks so pristine!
Great lenses and great information what’s the best wide angle lens I need one canon
Wow! Haven’t seen you since your new Covid look!!
I have the RF 28-70 2.0L. Unbelievable image quality in a zoom. Game changer for wedding photography.
I've had it for couple of months.
Excellent lens, sharp, nice bokeh, great for video especially with r5/r6 image stabilization.
cons: heavy, expensive, medium to low micro contrast (due to lots of elements), bad distortion.
* stitching is not practical for 99% of cases, common..
- ill still recommend it, excellent combo.
Good vid. I'm still on the fence of getting this one instead of keeping my primes. Just one question: Do you also sound like Chris Cornell when you sing?
Quick question, If i have a 70-200mm f2.8 lens is there a need to get an 85mm f1.8 or 1.4
I use a Nikon D500 and Nikon D5300, what lens do you suggest I get?
I have one and it satisfies most of my workflow needs.
After 11 months would you recommend this over the 24-70mm?
Okay how are you getting the low aputure without over cranking? What kinda ND are you using on top? I was always curious about it
Hey man great video! dont know if you know much about the sony A6300, any recommendations for a good lense?
Not super familiar but ill try to get my hands on one!
@@sawyerhartman appreciate you brother!
What is this lens for? Video or photography? Im this close to get it but looks too big
Just got my R6, with the RF24-105mm F4. I also purchased the RF100-500mm and the 2x extender. My primary uses are video, portraiture and wildlife. Debating between purchasing the RF28-70mm F2 and the RF70-200 F2.8. I want both, but can't swing another 6K right now. Any advice on which I should purchase next?
Since you already have the 100-500mm then you should get this 28-70mm f2.0. 70-200 is a great lens but all you get is a lower f stop and you're missing 30mm that's all.. this 28-70 will cover your wide angle and portraiture lengths and with the crop mode on the r5/r6 you'll get the reach of 116mm at this len's 70mm at f2. So i'd suggest you get this lens instead of the 70-200 2.8.
I bought this back in january and I agree with him 100%! If you make money off of photography or videography and use the RF system, this lens is so worth it.
Would you recommend it to a videographer who needs to stick it on a gimbal? Would you recommend it for street photography? It's an amazing lens but no lens is good for everything
the quality and color on this video is ZAMNNNNNNNN
this is so helpful as someone who is getting a new camera this year... so can i use this lens? haha
hahahhahah sure baby :)
Just bought imageprograf 300 🖨 pls stop I can't afford it. I can't stop thinking about it and I have been trying to save money 💰 that will be impossible.
Way to sneak that one in A! My daughter said the same thing when she got my R. Can I borrow the monster? 😂
What lens do you recommend for sports photography? I have a canon rebel t7
Great video and great lens. I bet the Tamron 28 to 75 2.8 stitching several images would also create a large highly detailed shot. Only about $900 and so small and light and enjoyable to carry. I also believe most people except for pros would not be able to tell the difference in the images from the two lenses but if someone can afford it I bet it's incredible and I'm sure it is worth it for someone who has the money.
Damn this video would pop up on my timeline. I was on the fence between the 24-70 RF and 28-70 RF 😅
I have a Canon 60D camera, came out in 2010 I think. My lenses are older as well and not as sharp as I’d like them to be. @Sawyerhartman would this lens be compatible with my current camera? Thanks.
Sadly RF lenses can't be used on older DSLR cameras with ef mount like your 60D.
How different is the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens? Its available and alittle cheaper.
Hey bro hope you are well. Sorry we haven't been able to visit you for a while we were in Bulgaria then Malta were we got stuck due to Covid and flights we're cancelled. But great to catch up with you again. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and knowledge with us really appreciate it bro. Stay safe and catch up again real soon God bless.
Hey Sawyer is there anywhere to watch your short series/film The Parallax Theory. I've wanted to watch it for years and can't find it anywhere. It's been taken down off Vimeo. Any way to watch it? I've wanted to for years but never found a way
Would love to get this lens but 95mm filter thread size unfortunately is a no-go for me right now. When shooting video it‘s so important to use good, variable ND‘s to make use of that wide f2.0 aperture but all the stellar brands like PolarPro only have 82mm filters so far.
Did you shoot all the the B-Roll on auto shutter?
You can always use a step up ring with a 82mm filter unless you don't use the hood.
I used to think spending a lot on a lens was crazy until I got my Canon 16-35, the top dog Canon lenses are masterpieces.
Couldn’t agree more!
I have a stupid amount of L lenses and I'll start my RF collection next year. I couldn't agree more about loosing the shot while changing lenses that's why I always have 2 bodies on me usually one with 16-35 and the other with 24-70. I rarely use the 70-200 but lately I'm using much more 50mm 1.2 prime and 85mm 1.4 prime. Love those 2 lenses but always afraid that I might need a wider shot so I only use one at a time on one of the bodies and the other with one of those 2 lenses... lately the 85mm more than the 50 and only in some parts of the ceremony (yes.. I'm a wedding photographer... booo)
Facts. They’re durability and weather resistance make me feel more confident at nightclubs knowing that they’ll keep working if someone spills a drink on it. L lenses last
Another good review. I thought you were going to say 28-70 RF Lens. I will have to say for it because I just spent 3699 on the R6. I’m very happy.
Haven't seen him since the j.ko challenge and now he be looking like Jack sparrow
Ahahahahahahaha
Used it! What a lovely bokeh!
Honnestly!!
Took a while to decide between the 28-70 and 24-70 but for me it was down to cost, weight and the actual size of the 28-70 that made me chose 24-70, which is still a good size but when travelling it just felt that bit more subtle to point and shoot. I'm someone who doesn't want to draw attention when doing urban work and that 95mm just felt like at some point it would reflect the sun and burn a hole in a nearby building. It's an epic lens and an indication of what can be done, so keen to see what Canon brings out next.
"Burn a hole in a nearby building" hahahaha gold!
I am super keen on the 28, but it doesnt have IBIS, but the 24 does. So it's making me wonder.
A true F2 up to 70mm is very impressive, especially for a lens that relatively small. I wonder why Canon didn’t make a bigger deal out of announcing this lens. I had no idea it existed until I happened upon this video. Thanks!
I just bought RF 24-70 F2.8. Is it really worth the money for me to go for this lens to in your opinion?
I have them both, and the answer is YESSSS. Especially if you have an R5/6 (for IBIS), there is no need for the 24-70.
@@DanielFazzari you suggest I get the 28-70 to but is it really worth the money when I bought the 24-70? It’s a lot of money :P
hey bro, your link to the lens is broken in case you don't know. great video.
Is it worth getting it if I already have RF 24-70 F2.8? Thank for your answers!
If you really need the low light capabilities of f2. Otherwise, f2.8 is fast enough for most situations. Also, 24-70 is slightly wider. That makes it a little more versatile
if you wanna keep both NO, 2.8 gets you the work done but if you trade this for the other i'd go for it.
I replaced my 24-70 with the 28-70. Especially if you have an R5/6 (for IBIS), there is no need for the 24-70. It is simply awesome!
love the hair 😂
bahahhahahahhahahaha it does what it does
24-70 2.8 is my go to lens for landscape and portraits.
Sweet ZF shirt 🤙🏽
What lens did you use to shoot this video on?
Does this still hold up in 2022 using an EOS R?
I would love your honest opinion on the EOS rp for portraiture
Hi can someone help me, my wife is newish to photography and has a Canon 90d 15-55mm standard lens and has a cropped sensor 1.5, (whatever that mean) she wants to buy the Irix 15 - 2.4 wide angle lens .. The question is will the Irix add "wide angle" compared to the standard lens she has ? Is the 500 euro worth it ? She thinks it may not add much more side angle depth to the photo than with the standard lens she got with the camera .. If anyone can help wld be greatly appreciated 🙏
If both the lens are 15mm then the only difference is 1 f stop of light. She won't get any more wider angle.
I think the only thing I wasn't sure about with this lens was it didnt have IS, but when I used it I didnt have any big issues.. but still. I took a tiny bit of video and it was noticeably shaky.
you don't know bro how much i love this channel & your content, .... RF 28-70 replaces *4 Leica Summicrons -- 28, 35, 50, 75mm* (only 90mm is left out) ....
i have *6D* since 2013 & *M10-P White limited edition + 50 summilux* since january, ... so i know what it means to have 4-in-1 summicron-zoom (4 primes rolled into 1) .....
but not sure if it can also replace your Noctilux !! .... thanks, love, regards from India.
You can use the 1.6× crop mode to cover 90mm and more on canon eos r bodies.
the description for RF lenses say motorized electronic manual focus (focus-by-wire). can you explain that please?
Can i buy 17:50 f2.8 for sl2....i guess it of similar focal length to 24..70..
What’s the closest thing to this lens in an EF mount? Or for an APS-C camera?
Sigma 50-100 1.8
Amazing lens
I've got three 24-70mm lenses and it almost never comes off my main camera especially when I need to pack light or travelling.
Speaking like making a Panorama is a new thing and unique to this lens...
Sawyer just looking wild these days.
For the filter use the clip on inside the camara 😊
Super excited that Viltrox just announced a 85mm RF lens!
what prime lens would you advice to replace a 70-200 (canon of course :) )
Canon 100mm f2.8L macro
This is a dream lens and I will definately save up for it! Might sell other stuff for it, but I feel like i'd rather own less stuff, than a lot of mediocre equipment.
Facts ! I'm about to sell everything haha
Awesome quality over quantity should be the best way to go about anything.
Damn great point.
Do you prefer rf 28-70mm or rf 24-70mm for traveling?
hell no...
28 is too heavy and cumbersome
Did you use Hella Hangers to hang those skateboards on the wall?
Is this lens equivalent to the Canon EF 24-70 mm USM II F 2.8 ??
That's basically the choice to make. Either one or the other. It's more a matter of do you need a wider angle & some cash in your pocket, or lose the 4mm of focal but get some extra wide aperture.
does this work for r6
I have a very good variable ND filter for it! It works perfect, I have to go through my orders for the specific name but I got it off Adorama, it was called NiSi something
Share when you find it please!
www.nisifilters.fr/produit/filtre-nisi-nd-vario-pro-nano-enhance-5-9-stops/
This is the way.
@@fatfreegarage1902 Yup that reply is the same one I got from Adorama!
Its image quality is better than that of 24-70 RF. Totally insane 😶
What about action video like of an indoor sports event?
Can i use this on sony a7s3
i was thinking about getting the sony 16-35mm until you mentioned that I can photo stack xD since I have the Tamron 28-75 for sony e mount....and i am going to the mountains soon so this should be interesting.
Ohhh yeah!!!! Thats gonna be AWESOME!!!
@@sawyerhartman yessir! i feel like you should do a video on that :) more in-depth but my two cents
hmm, can't you do that with any other lens???
He likes to present basic knowledge as new insight and the idiots that follow him and don't know anything about photography think he's a genius.
I have changed many cameras, but I have a some lens that I have kept for 15 years. Because they are still good.
