Whatever it takes. Ground the radio chassis though. It’ll only take one time for your equipment to bounce off something during a situation & you’ll fry everything.
Great video! I learned a lot. Recently dug my old man's modified mid/late 70's SBE-26CB out of a box in his garage. Got the dirt dobbers nest out. Carefully cleaned it up. Repainted the case. Fixed the fuse wire. Bought a new mic, antenna, and coax. It still works, just need to tune my antenna. Going to mount it in this 69 Charger RT I'm building. Appreciate the lesson.

Hey there man. I am driving a UHaul truck from Seattle to Denver and I thought I’d pick up a CB for the trip with plans to install it in my RAM when I get home. I live 1 mile from I-76 in northern Colorado. Anyway I was driving down I84 towards Colorado and I had the CB installed sitting on the seat next to me. I was listening to your videos and wondering why my radio wasn’t working. I was literally about to pull over to mess with the radio again when I noticed that traffic was stopped ahead. Single Sideband (SSB) is not "channels between channels on different frequencies". This is an important point. If you're on channel 40 AM, you are taking-up the same channel as ch 40 USB and LSB. Single Sideband is just a way of cutting the channel in half and using each half separately. A station on CH 40 USB will not interfere with a stations on CH 40 LSB. But, someone on CH 40 AM will interfere with operators on 40 USB and LSB.
Excellent video for this new-comer (both to CBs and your channel) I purchased a Cobra 29 wx nw st with external speaker and unbranded 3’ steel magnet antenna w/o a mike for $15 from a thrift store yesterday. Even though the radio looks new I need to see if it’s working before buying a mike, swr meter and possibly a better antenna. Any suggestions for testing to see if it’s working? Thanks. P.S. I like Duluth. Lol

Hi there, I am a a newbie and I want to learn more about this. I got a questions: how can CB quality equipment be of good qulaity when it reads "Made in China"?
I mounted a Connex 3400 on the floor of my Dodge 1500 on the floor in front of the console. It points to the driver at 45 degrees and up. Easy to see and access all controls. The mount I used is a C520 Saw Tooth Hump Mount. I covered to saw teeth with plastic split conduit so it wouldn't cut the carpet. Its not bolted down, it just sits there very very stable. And it is easy to remove as I'm using a Little Wil mag mount. I wish I could post a photo.
I can barely hear anybody on any CB radio. I used to like listening to Channel 6 Skip. 😀😀😈🦵🦬 I used to sort of like looking ar CB radios but I turned myself into a radio nut as a result.!

It's all in what you want, features, size, power. Don't buy one for the swr meter, they all have them, but none are accurate, always use an external meter.
Biggest mistake I made and I see others make when getting into CB radio. I Thought I knew everything and went out and over paid for a 10 meter. I didn’t really understand the extra knobs. I had crappy Rual King Coax. Very thin 3 foot fiberglass antenna. I didn’t even know what SWR was. Unfortunately the CB shop saw me coming a mile away and didn’t even bother to ask me the questions I should have asked myself.

@@pauledwards3839 You will spend about $250-$300 on a radio and amp. The Stryker 955 is great with a lot of features. Look at Walcott CB Shop. That can give you a good range of price vs power vs features.

There are rewired 4-pin mics that have the correct 6-pin connector for President radios. There are also 6 to 4 pin adapters available. You’ll lose the “up” and “down” buttons that are on the factory mic, but aftermarket mics can be made to work.
