Agree. Love is love, and lord knows we need more of that in this world today, especially when it seems that hate is becoming more prevalent, and sadly, in some instances, more acceptable.
I think sometimes wealthy people (whether born into it, or aquired wealth), are sometimes just assumed to be happy, surrounded by love, & never lonely. I think this is sometimes far from the truth. Money can't buy happiness or love, & even those with wealth & power can be lonely & unhappy. Everyone needs love, acceptance & friendship at some point in their lives, & Aaliyah is no exception. Just my opinion.
I believe money can buy happiness if you shop in the right places which is what Aaliyah ultimately did in this story. When she saw Cruz at the store, they both had an agenda. Cruz was working and Aaliyah recognized something in Cruz that could make her a good friend. The undeniable truth is nothing can replace human's deep desire for love and connection. They did a good job writing these characters although I feel the best job was done for Aaliyah and Joe. Aaliyah is my favorite character in the show because I like the intrigues that come with her. She is beautifull, charismatic, honest, friendly, rich but not wealthy because she is lonely and tired of all the rules and restraints. That created a naivety in the character that made her vulnerable to what was to come. That's all part of being human. True wealth means living a well bablanced life meaning if you are rich you have time to enjoy the money you have, your health and your relationships are in order. Aaliyah obviously lacked true human connection and wanted to experience it which she did. Unfortunately, that connection is not just wanted once in a while. It is wanted all the time and she realized she won't keep experiencing it due to her circumstances.😢
I think quite often money has little to do with real happiness, whether you shop in the right places or not. If that were the case, all people with wealth would be happy, and that's just not the case. There are lots of underprivileged people, with little to no money, who are as happy, if not happier, than those with wealth. Please don't misunderstand me here. I'm not putting wealthy people down. If I won a huge lottery, of course I'd travel, buy a new car, maybe a few other luxuries, but would it make me happier? It would make me happy if my husband & I could help our kids out, & make their lives more comfortable, & giving to charities & helping those less fortunate, definitely....but would I still retain my friends? I would certainly hope so, but sometimes sudden priviledge can build a wedge between people, & friendships are more important than money. It broke my heart when Aaliyah asked Cruz "Would you be my friend"? They both needed a true friend, & I think their lot in life drew them to one another. Aaliyah had wealth, but no true friends, & Cruz had no money, & wanted desperstely to be a true friend to Aaliya, but knew it would go nowhere because of what she had to do. It reminded me of a Romeo/Juliet relationship. Doomed from the start. Remember when Cruz said "I don't have money for that", & Aaliyah said "That's one of the things I like about you". Add to that, Aaliyahs culture, & having her husband chosen for her, her friends, virtually her entire life dictated to her, & finding someone who had little to no money, but who fell in love with Aaliyah, not because of what she had, but of who she was. True friendships quite often last a lifetime. Unfortunately, the same cannot always be said about wealth & power. Just my perspective.
I understand your points but I did not say money makes one happy, I said you have to shop in the right places when you have money in order to be happy. Aaliyah did that. She knew what she was missing and she used her $ to create memories with Cruz. This is not to say that they could not be friends if Aaliyah was not rich but money provided her with an opportunity to make Cruz experience things she had never experienced before in a short period of time. I believe peace of mind with one's self, true human connections are what create long-term happiness and true wealth. Let's examine Aaliyah and Cruz friendship for example. Aaliyah is super rich, beautiful, friendly, charismatic, risk taker but yet lacks peace of mind because she does not have true friends and does not want to get married and lose all her freedom. She told Cruz she liked the fact that she did not have money not because that's a good thing because the other friends she has were just given to her and they come from the same environment that she does not like. Remember when they had the spa day, Cruz said she did not care about money, Aaliyah said: That's because you've never had any." Aaliyah understands what it means to be rich but she wanted more than just money. She wanted true friendships and true love so she dedicated her time and resources to show that" special world" to Cruz. Like I said before, there is no mutual relationship between humans of any sort without an exchange of benefits. For Aaliyah and Cruz it was no different. Aaliyah genuinely wanted a true friend but not Cruz. Cruz was just doing her job. The true friendship became a reality because Cruz was charmed and impressed by Aaliyah's humanity and her sense of caring. I agree with you, this relationship was doomed from the start. It also was not based on honesty to begin with but it could not have been because Cruz had a job to do.@@janetlynncobb5766
@tayinap4269 . I agree with some of what you've said. The wealthy shop in the right places to be happy? Well, if the right places include bargain basements & lower end stores, some of them are a pretty happy bunch, & probably saving a ton of money in the process! 😉 It's certainly nice to have peace of mind with ones self, & still find true human connections that create long term happiness. Long term happiness takes time & work, & there are bound to be bumps in the road along the way. I've been married 50 years, (with 2 adult kids)& being friends as well as lovers certainly requires peace of mind sometimes.....and a hell of a lot of patience too! Lol. Aaliyah didn't care for her superficial friends, and I don't blame her, but I think she probably enjoyed the freedom & perks that wealth afforded her. Best nightclubs, restaurants etc. I found the lack of connection with her mother, sad. She appeared to be rather cold & aloof. Aaliyah was more like her father I think. He appeared engaging & openly friendly, even though probably ruthless as well, but Aaliyah was protected from that, I think, even though she perhaps knew about some of it, she was sheltered from it as well. I think Cruz must have realized, after she killed Aaliyahs' father, what she gave up. When she was back on the boat, she said "He may have been what you said he was, but not her". In my heart, I truly wished she hadn't killed him (Aaliyas husband to be though....ick!) What a charmer he was! I would have loved to have seen Cruz wipe the floor with his bony ass! 😅 It was prophetic when she said "Aaliya will have children, & they will ask how their Grandfather died. All we've done is unleash a fresh group of terrorists". Makes me think of Hamas, & what happened in Israel yesterday. How very sad! Anyway, we'll probably continue to agree to disagree on some points here, but that's O.K. You have a nice day!
@@janetlynncobb5766 Hey, we are different people so it's ok to have different opinions. First I want to congratulate you on your family achievement. Cruz and Aaliyah's story is very intriguing and I enjoy talking about it with you. I know very rich people who are very happy just like I know people with less money who are happy. In either side, there is an internal peace that's required for real happiness. Your heart has to be at peace with what it wants. Having money and using it to bring peace into one's life by using it to provide yourself with what is missing is the key to being wealthy. I can see that your definition of wealth is different than mine. From a purely financial term, yes Aaliyah is wealthy. From a total balance standpoint she was troubled. She was intelligent enough as well as a risk taker to use her resources trying to experience what she wanted. Both Aaliyah and Cruz knew they had no shot at a long term relationship. That's the reason Aaliyah never suspected Cruz even with all the clues she was giving her. When cruz said "I can't go to Riyadh with you. I don't want to see your father giving you away and trust me you don't want me anywhere near it either" Aaliyah thought Cruz was just saying that because it would be too hard for Cruz to watch her marry someone else but that's not all she meant. She knew if she went to the wedding, it would killing Aaliyah's father either directly or indirectly and she did not want to hurt her that way. Even on their last scene when she almost broke her cover telling her that she was not who Aaliyah thought she was in order to prepare her for what's to come, Aaliyah still thought Cruz meant she was confused due to how complicated their situation was. My prayers are with all those suffering around the world. Until next time.
@tayinap4269 It's nice to talk with someone whose opinions differ from mine, & can agree to disagree. A good friend of mine for 36 years walked away because our opinions on some things differed. I had really hoped that we could have just 'agreed to disagree', and keep our close friendship, but she wasn't willing to do it. It hurt and it still does. Thank you for your congratulations! That's very nice of you to say that! Yes, Cruz & Aaliyas story was intriguing! I had so hoped they could have stayed together, as love is love, in any and all of its forms! I believe if you can't accept yourself for who you are, how could you possibly expect anyone else to, whether they are like you or different from you? I'm not really sure of my definition of wealth, to be perfectly honest with you. I was brought up in a comfortable setting. We were considered to be a little better off than some, and didn't go without, but I had friends who were better off than I was, but I also had friends who struggled financially sometimes, but our friendships transcended and endured. We helped the less fortunate when we could, & I still do today. It always makes me feel better as a human being when I can help those less fortunate. I always think back to what Atticus Finch said to Scout in To Kill A Mockingbird. "You never really know a person until you climb into their skin, and walk around in it a little". I had really hoped that Aaliyah & Cruz would have found a way to be together, but sadly, it wasn't to be. I long for a Season 2, but longing is what I'll be reduced to, as I don't see it happening, and even if it did, I couldn't bear to think of Aaliyah locked away in a compound in Riyadh, trapped & miserable. I think they needed each other, Cruz & Aaliyah, if for no other reason, than to have felt that love & connection just once. I don't think either one of them had that ever before in their lives, except with each other. Yes, I found myself drawn to Aaliyah, and everytime she broke down in tears, I found myself doing the same. "Will you be my friend"? My heart! She had so much to give of herself, and no outlet for it. I know people who are wealthy, and have kept their relationships in order, but I also know people who haven't. Sometimes wealth earned from years of hard work is easier to deal with than sudden wealth, as per say, a lottery win. I think sometimes it must be a difficult balance. Good Lord, I've droned on here! Sorry for the novel! Lol. I've enjoyed your thoughts & opinions. You have a good grasp & a good take on things. Maybe we can do this again sometime. Take care & Peace. ✌️🕊
Literally Rapunzel. Trapped in a castle forbidden to leave. I feel for all the lesbians out there forced to hide themselves and live a life they don't want; afraid that if they do leave, they will be killed. Their story was always going to end in tragedy. The silver lining is that Aaliyah is finally free but at the cost of her family broken and her true love gone forever. 🥺💔
The high note was ending the edit on Aaliyah's realization that its better not to know love even once because you can not go back to being Okay with not being Loved/making NOT being loved acceptable.....Now she knows what she is missing.......,, You literally can not unsee the desperation in your lovers eyes to be with you(and its written all over Cruz's face...... no words necessary between them).....,, All Aaliyah can do is stroke her gently
