Everyone's just fighting in the comments about which band is better and i'm just over here like "hey, disturbed performing a metallica song, that's pretty epic"
I swear metallica probably has the BEST intros to their songs in rock history. I could listen to the first 1:30 of this song over and over and over. I can't get tired of it!
Denise Satterfield pity, 'cause Metallica came first in 1981 (true fact and started their first album in 1983) BEFORE Disturbed. So they made Disturbed second at best. And Cliff was the greatest bass player in metal band history.
I’m almost 60 .Davids voice is a gift ...it’s a big beautiful voice...wrap it....the sound of silence ...made me cry...live or not...WOW! Thank you...xo. Such control. Such depth ...
I'd love to hear Pantera do a cover of this song while they were in their prime. I think Phil could have done an awesome job on this song vocally. It would almost be Cemetery Gates like I suppose. David and the band do a pretty good job here.
Flippin brilliant! The transition between the bass/guitar and the acoustics is perfect! What a song! What a band! Amazing original version by 'Tallica, amazing cover by Disturbed! Need I say any more?!
froo baloo it's not that they are bad or the spawn of the devil -which in some way they are- it's that they have some potential but they write and play the most generic uninteresting bullshit ever created by a rock band.
I actually had no idea the Disturbed singer had such a good voice! I really like both Metallica and Disturbed, and this is a great cover. I do wish there was a solo at the end, but it's still awesome
Now instead of 'hello darkness my old friend' and 'oh wah ah ah ah',,, 'life it seems will fade away' is my new fav disturbed lyrics, ik it's a Metallica cover but this is epic
@@russellvanwyk7214 Based on the fact that your comment has no likes, I think you're alone in that boat. Chester Bennington is from Linkin Park, the biggest rock band of the last two decades. And Spencer Charnas is from Ice Nine Kills, one of the biggest heavy metal bands of the last five years. They have two albums that charted high on Billboard, so you're far from correct. James Hetfield is a great singer, but wishes he had Chester and Spencer's vocal range. Metallica walked so Linkin Park and Ice Nine Kills could run.
To those who are complaining that they did not play the solo in this performance... This was from the Music As A Weapon II tour, which was during the Believe album cycle. At this time, they only had two albums released (The Sickness, and Believe). If you listen to both of the albums in their entirely, you will notice that Dan does not have a single solo among them. I remember hearing a long while ago that back then, Dan was not interested in solos mainly for the fact that he did not want to be the center of attention any more than anyone else. He was more than talented enough to handle solos, but just chose not to. All of that changed with the release of the Ten Thousand Fists album however.
ajaja, you are so wrong, man. James' voice during that period was very unstable. Read about The Black Album and James' voice problems. You can tell the differences, listening to album versions and then watching live versions of songs.
This is awesome, imho, David's voice suits the song more, and the instrumentals were just awesome. I'd love to see a studio version of this(the people in the background are killing it! D;), a bonus track mayhaps? :) But... comparing a live cover vs the studio track is.... pointless, as it's going to be pretty hard to beat the studio track.
This song had so much meaning to me as a teenager. I heard it in a way that I can't even grasp today as an adult. I just felt it so much more deeply back then. RIP Cliff.
Love Metallica and Disturbed. David sings it very well and the band covers the music well. My only gripe is play the entire song even if that means making David play the guitar.
***** I don't get why they skipped it, Don is plenty talented enough to play Kirk's solo. As it's live, I'm guessing it was probably for timing reasons.

wrong again. At least David Draiman can still sing. Kind of different ball game there. Before you lecture me, im nearly 40 years old and listened to Metallica since garage days. James has lost his voice IMO and their change of music types doesn't bode well with me. they are still a great band of course, but disturbed became my new fave after the Metal.licka black album. they lost something then. Havent seen them recover it yet. I prefer disturbed by far now
The band Disturbed are great in there own right there first album was fire with Down With The Sickness among most of the other songs on that album and some of there following albums had great tunes as well to take note of they have a great vocalist and great drummers and guitarists with the guitar rifts and all that to take lots of notes of. They did a great cover here too they are great at covering others songs too.
Great cover, however, I'd rather bands put more of their own twist or influence when they do covers, like Limp Bizkits "Welcome Home" cover in the MTV Icon.
They put their own twists on Shout (majorly so), Land of Confusion (though not as much as In Flames Did), and Living After Midnight, so just because they did one faithful cover doesn't mean they aren't a band to put their own twists in.
The thing about disturbed covers: although they may not always outdo the original, they always honor the song ... and this one is no exception. The Metallica of today cannot honor this music any better.
+Dalton Lee : Me being the period of the original Sound of Silence : I totally agree their cover was better . Rarely covers are better but he did it ! (y)

James Hetfield you sir are correct!
Right on brother
Us and them mentality and divisiveness is today's world now, unfortunately.
Just sit back, listen and enjoy your music brother.
A good song done well is just all right with me, I guess I'm less concerned with the who than the how. I am a simple man.
Amen, brother!
i love when great bands cover Metallica songs to show their respect to one of the greatest metal bands ever. Nice cover.
🤘
I swear metallica probably has the BEST intros to their songs in rock history. I could listen to the first 1:30 of this song over and over and over. I can't get tired of it!
Same!!!
Same with One, Damage Inc., Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and Battery
of course, my being gets electric listenin to that part .AHHH what an ecstacy
Well, that could be a photo finish with Iron Maiden :D
Fade to Black and Master of Puppets intros are my favorite
David is simply blessed with a voice that can be Beauty and the Beast
at the same time
That's a perfect description
Well said
Bald power

100% agree !!! Rock on !!
Disturbed is my favourite band EVER, and Fade to Black is my favourite song by Metallica. So, this is amazing.
This is what I'm saying about David's voice! He can sing ANYTHING and his ballad voice is beautiful! LOVE DISTURBED 4-EVER!
Understand he does ballads as well as he does Metal. He's great with his voice manipulating.
Denise Satterfield pity, 'cause Metallica came first in 1981 (true fact and started their first album in 1983) BEFORE Disturbed. So they made Disturbed second at best. And Cliff was the greatest bass player in metal band history.
Denise Satterfield It doesn't hurt that the rest of the band is on that level, too.
FUCK yes!!
Dr. Medic u know it Dr.
I would buy a disturbed album of just cover songs. This one is masterfully done
Right? Me too
Dave the lead vocalist is one of the best vocalists today. He can sing anything and make it sound amazing
Hetfield has the best voice
@TriVos Ahren listen to bleeding me...
I’m almost 60 .Davids voice is a gift ...it’s a big beautiful voice...wrap it....the sound of silence ...made me cry...live or not...WOW! Thank you...xo. Such control. Such depth ...
You can obviously tell the crowd had no idea what song they were playing until the beginning solo came in
Because the acoustic guitar can be barely heard. And they're playing live, so the sound wouldn't be the same as you're hearing them.
such a shame
Even attempting the solo on stage takes balls, it must be one of the most epic ever.
Noah Hinchee I second that i have a friend that can play this on guitar n i mimic his voice to a point...rock on brother's love u all
AshotofJamieson does sound like goodbye blue sky Pink Floyd tho
Very, very well done. One of the great Metal bands covering anther great Metal band. It doesn't get any better than this.
David traded his hair for that voice. Great deal!
Uhhhhh Yama , yanama na ma , Yama na , na Yama na na naaaa!
I'd love to hear Pantera do a cover of this song while they were in their prime.
I think Phil could have done an awesome job on this song vocally. It would almost be Cemetery Gates like I suppose.
David and the band do a pretty good job here.
the moment you wanted to shut down your pc and ...
1 hour later still listening to music. :)

i don't always reply to shitty comments, but when I do, i hate them.
LOL
I have to say I enjoy this better on so many levels 💞
I see what you did there.
I always listen to metallica and so do my neigbours, whether they like it or not 😂😂😉

froo baloo it's not that they are bad or the spawn of the devil -which in some way they are- it's that they have some potential but they write and play the most generic uninteresting bullshit ever created by a rock band.
froo baloo tbh the cover they did was pretty good.

you know it's a good song when someone covers it in their live concert.
good cover btw.
