In this lesson we are going to learn treble G and Middle C. These are landmark notes. They help us to find other notes that are located nearby.
The treble clef helps us to find the G line in the treble staff. It curves around the line creating a bullseye or target, drawing our eyes to the second line of the staff. The note found on line 2 is treble C. The treble clef can also be called the G clef, since it helps us find the note G.
Middle C is written on a ledger line located between the treble staff and the bass staff. It is in the middle of those 2 staves. Middle C can be written in 2 ways: one as a ledger line below the treble staff and one as a ledger line above the bass staff.
Now let's learn a song using the notes we just learned. The song is called Google Maps!

I was searching for lessons for the piano because i wanted to learn it again from the start because i gave up a long time ago and suddenly got motivated because of some school work about instruments. I've never properly learned to read sheet music and my previous teacher never told me about it so i just guessed how to read it, but now i finally understand a little better.

As a mum with little ones I spent a lot of hours driving to piano lessons.
It's embarrassing to say, but I had to hire a tutor to help my kids with their homework every week, as I could not read music and had a total block.
Now my kids are grown I thought to try to learn myself. I am working on the book that my daughter used when she was four.
I am enjoying learning but I was looking for some extra help to get beyond "mouse mousie in the housie."
I just found you yesterday and I think you are wonderful.

I’m 66 yrs old and can’t get out, I’ve always wanted to learn piano but all the books I have tried haven’t explained music as well as you do, I can read music a little bit but do struggle to understand what it all means, for instance the treble clef and bass clef, I had no idea how much information they gave. I would say if you can afford 88 weighted keys, go for that and if you are on a budget then stick with 61 keys. I have a cheap 61 keys and it's not bad at all but certainly won't sound so great like the 88 keys. In fact if you think that you are going to have a great musical life with a piano then I must insist on buying the 88 keys especially the weighted keys as it's a different lovely animal than a cheap 61 keys.

Keep in mind, when typing on a computer keyboard, the computer keyboard is like playing on a piano. Be mindful of how you hold your hands and apply pressure with your fingers when you are typing on a computer keyboard AND when you are playing the piano. Believe it or not, it's the same thing.
