Last weekend I bought a great twisted and bushy Chinese juniper, and they gave me a discount because it was so crooked! About 2 inch diameter at the base. Can't wait for the spring to see if it takes, to style it and to make some airlayers )
Peter ... you really inspired me. your work is extraordinarily beautiful. I hope you will always be healthy to continue working and providing knowledge about bonsai👍👍
That sick tree at the beginning may be suffering from something fungal. I sometimes get that kind of dieback on some of my conifers, I treat them with fungicides, and it often helps
I like the grapht in the tree in some ways it reminds me as if the tree grew on a rock ledge and really needed to anchor itself if you will. Specially at that angle.
Those extra shots of the other trees in the nursery are so great. I live all the way in California and I’m always pausing the videos to see all the trees. Thanks !!!
I have a couple Hinoki given to me by my neighbor that owns a nursery, first one was really looking bad, one little branch, stump of a cut off trunk and big green very healthy hot dog looking branch. I used some raffia because the bark looked tender and I needed a beyond horizontal bend. Did the double wire method, I think less damage to the tree, it's really hard to bend 4mm on right size branch. Then bent the little branch up over the big trunk. Well didn't know if it would live, now a truck driver that delivers to her nursery wants to buy it, it said for display only because I hate to sell a tree until it's lived a few months. I learned a lot from that tree and I hope it lives on for him.
I had a great collection till I left to live in Borneo, leaving them to my parent. When my mum passed. Dad did not look after them and so they died. You can see them on my youtube. However, I had one that survived. I just leave it and Prune it. Love to show it to you. Hinoki Cypress
Hey, I have a question, any help is appriciated! I just got a Mugo pine that I had to emergency repot in the middle of November. This is my first pine, so the question is, how do I make sure that the tree will survive this winter? I can keep it outside, or in an unheated greenhouse, or in a heated greenhouse if needed, but I heard keeping htem inside is not ideal in normal cases. (I live in the middle-eastern region on Europe) Thanks in advance!
You have such cute little trees. I finally dug up two of the trees I wired and they had some really thick roots and they grew so fast from seeds to about 15 inches and I cut the tops off. They are Maple Trees .So I bought them in the house before it got too cold
Just purchased my first Hinoki. Very excited. Would greatly appreciate tips. My plan is to prune within next 30 days. Then repot from nursery pot / stock in early spring.
I foolishly bought a clearance miniature fern gold hinoki and when I got home and read about it realized it was really not what I wanted! But, it's chugging along.
Literati bunjin was the only picture in my mind for that tree, but Peter managed to turn it into something interesting. Some carving would surely help for that nebari and makeshift a turtle back nebari..maybe. Until next one, cheers.
It could be that a nice piece of volcanic rock or another join the tree in its potting to disguise the graft and thin trunk. It is a very nice tree indeed
I just went and bought a Hinoki and I’m afraid it may have the viral issue-I have been binge watching Mr Chan’s videos and there was a different cultivar that has leaves that will turn brown and need cleaning/ pruning-I mistakenly thought that was the Hinoki.
Mr. Chan I've been wondering where you get your mica pots from. I'm from germany and am looking for a seller in the euro region, do you know any, or do you by chance sell some yourself?
We stock Mica pots and sell a lot on-line. Next month we have more coming and in more sizes and designs. If you place a bulk order - we can give you a good discount.
At this very moment I am slowly finishing my homemade bonsai pots. Classical rectangular shape with raised edges around the top and low profile feet at the base of the pot. The material is based on lightweight conrete mixture. So feel free to let me know if you would like to go with something this less usual. I might have some spare pieces for sale later during this winter (I hope it will be during this winter! :)).
as always your bonsai tree are beautiful especially the maples, BTW does the nursery have any japanese cherry blossoms or sakura? I really love to see it and also can you give us viewers some advice on caring for this trees, I really appreciate it, and also I resently purchase a Phillipine version of the Japanese cherry blossom or sakura, hope they will grow to be great bonsai trees.. God bless to you and your staff and also stay safe.
Am not sure about your winter temperatures, but Cherry blossoms require a winter temperature of minus 5 to crack open the blooms. If it does not get that cold where you are, try overnighting them in your freezer!!!!
@@clivechase8057 it's not a Japanese cherry blossoms but the Philippine version of the Japanese cherry blossom I think they call it balayong in palawan...
Peter, I’m from Australia and I’m wondering if there are any good Bonsai nurseries around the city of Melbourne in the state of Victoria that you could recommend for beginner classes. I’d like to try doing some classes with my dad or my (maybe) boyfriend haha.
"Don't be stingy with wire" *rings to his website and buys kilos more wire* 🤣🤣🤣 Chamaecyparis was my first tree and I bought it last year. It's had its ups and downs but it is growing nicely right now. I love the foliage.

This video is a wonderful example of serendipitous thought process, and we are so fortunate that you share these with us. Awesome video. Thank you!
Comfy sweaters, warm drinks and amazing colors. I love the autumn :)
I love your shirt Peter. You have great taste in bonsai and shirts👍🏻
I find it very interesting how you managed to solve the initial 'T-shape' of the tree. Very enjoyable video as usual. Thank you!!

Best was watching you think. Great meditation on wire, also. TY.
Master Peter! 👏
Nice job with a difficult tree but I prefer it from the other side. Each to their own!
That turned out to be a very nice bonsai!
Might try to get a hinoki cypress from a nursery

Such a charming challenge you've met!
I found tricky or difficult trees more interesting to work with. For the sake of own entertainment.
Well that explains why i keep getting die back on my juniper i have been cutting it like a hair dresser :P
🙏Hinoki!!!. Thank you. 👍
Amazing
Thank you once again Master P 😁
Amazing as always!

Do you know how to Hinoki Cypress compares to the Monterey Cypress (Hesperocyparis macrocarpa)?
It could be that a nice piece of volcanic rock or another join the tree in its potting to disguise the graft and thin trunk. It is a very nice tree indeed
That table is too high to work on big trees. It’s a struggle to reach and wire the top. Imo You should place the tree on something lower.

He does. Try his herons website, perhaps he has some available online.
Bonsaiplaza in The Netherlands has them aswell

1st.
I wish Josh would stay with Peter and remain focused on filming, stop looking at everything along the way and stay out of the frame.
Maybe the pH in the water... when the client was watering it😢😢😢it was the wrong pH??? Maples will do that too💐
