  • In 2015 after many years of inactivity, The AB and D type subway cars were restored to operational condition and the public invited to ride on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the opening of the BMT 4th Avenue Subway. Also on hand were the R1/9 and SMEE type museum trains. On the station public address we hear the voice of train dispatcher Edward P. McKernan, currently the number one in seniority in the entire system.
When I made the music video version of this • BMT 100th Anniversary ... my computer would not process full HD. Here is the full HD version (30fps) without the music. Click the above link in a separate tab and watch this one with the sound lowered if you want to hear the music. It is pretty epic and arguably the most 'subway' like music you will ever hear aside from the theme for The Taking of Pelham 123.
The 2015 version of the annual transit museum Parade of Trains was the best, having all running museum equipment aside from the IRT cars and the wooden BMT elevated triplet. The R-9 car on the other track was set up as a souvenir shop (a feature that most parades did not include up to 2023). Dispatcher McKernan (#1 in seniority) is still on the job as of 2024 (possibly his last year). Pay him a visit at the tower he usually works at, if you know him.

One of my favorite Museum trains is the R1 to 9s.

LOVE those IND old timers! I remember them well. Never had a chance to ride on the Triplexes. Rode on the BMT standards on the Lonesome Larry during their final two years of service.

I did not know. That is sad. The museum fleet is large and someday they will get around to fixing whatever is keeping them off the road.

@@trainluvr It’s been at Pitkin Yard for a long time and never moved. Before I think it was at 148 St Layup on the 3, now Pitkin.

@@TJ_Railfan That's a different set of D types, but the ones in operable condition haven't been moved in a while either, the Museum pretty much only prioritizes the Arnines, the Lo-Vs and OCCASIONALLY the TOMC. A majority of the TOMM fleet hasn't moved in a while either, including but not limited to: French Connection R42 pair, R40, and the R16.

@@TJ_Railfan 6019 was never moved from Pitkin. 6095 is at the museum, 6112 (overhauled in 2015 with MU compatibility with R1-R9) has been stored at Coney Island since 2018.
