    I played a strong player from Uganda in a match years ago and he tore me apart because I was too passive. This video is perfect for the chess player who needs to become more aggressive. Thanks!

    I love playing chess! It's my favorite game because it's a game of skill, not luck. One looses a chess match because they made a bad move.

    Thanks for the video. But, here again, we have a strong player [you] telling us lesser players NOT to memorise openings but to understand the ideas. However, there is one MAJOR problem with that approach. Its one thing to understand the ideas, but, YOU STILL HAVE TO PLAY THE RIGHT MOVES IN THE RIGHT ORDER! Knowing the ideas, then playing the moves in the WRONG order will lead to catastrophe! So you MUST at some point memorise the right move order in most openings. You can't avoid it.

    • @journeytograndmaster
      @journeytograndmaster  Рік тому +7

      Not necessarily. Sometimes you might lose because of the wrong move order but overall chances are, you overestimate how important it is to learn the theory at your level?
      What's your rating?

    • @TheThinkersBible
      @TheThinkersBible Рік тому +2

      I’m a low rated player. That said, I’ve played many games playing “book” openings when I didn’t know the opening. Or if I knew what the general opening was, I didn’t know that line I found out I was playing when I analyzed the game afterwards.
      The way I do it is study tactics a lot. It turns out that the book openings are mostly developing moves and tactics threats or countering tactical threats.

      @@journeytograndmaster OK At my level move order is probably not critical....AT MY LEVEL... but it becomes ABSOLUTEY VITAL if I want to progress beyond my level. Players at the 1800 plus level HAVE to study correct move orders just to maintain their rating.

    Why did you think the black bishop was less active? It seemed to cover much more of the board having two diagonals?

    • @journeytograndmaster
      @journeytograndmaster  Рік тому +1

      because white bishop is attacking and dangerous whereas mine is not. Also, exchanging pieces in general favours the side with less space.

      You should ask yourself whether you have developed all of your pieces :)
      You goal should be to develop all of your pieces as fast as possible and as active as possible. Afterwards, you will definitely have a lot of attacking opportunities :)

      I think of chess as like being a general , in charge of an army, with infantry ( pawns ), cavalry ( knights ), artillery ( rooks ) etc.
      Every unit should be doing a job.
      The more units ready to attack, the better, so early development is vital.

      Without this if I start any game I just start to move the pieces random . Sometimes I win and I have been playing chess for 5-6 months maybe .
      And only with family members and in a video game but offline games.

      that's the point! It's not enough to hear the principle itself, the most important thing is to understand it properly so you can use it in your own games.
      But the principle itself is "Always fight for the inititive" or "Try to be as active as possible".
