My Google 6 pro only allows default notifications. I go into each app and I change what tone I want but they all revert back to default. I want different notification sounds for different apps and it will not allow me to do it. It's default or silent!

here is what I had to do on a Samsung S20
Its 8 levels deep, but it worked great!
Now I know which mailbox, and can tell a general notification from an email
BUT!
why cant I just add a voice clip?
like "Yo Paul, personal email. Probably from Mom"
settings
->apps
->Gmail
-> Notifications
-> in-app-notfication-settings
-> pick the email address
-> Notification sounds
-> Notfication sound
-> Sound, it will show you the current one
- pick one

Settings > Apps > {your_app} > Notifications > Notification categories > {name_of_notification} > Sound* > {sound_name}
*If you don't see "sound", change Silent to Alert.
These are specific steps for Samsung (in 2023). Other manufacturers may have slightly different settings.
Each app will have a different list of notifications {name_of_notification}.

I have a note 9 and do not have the same options as you. My notifications already had different sounds and now they are all the same and cant figure out y
the notifocation categories was removed from newer version. Samsung needs to bring that option back so we can customize our notifications on each apps

Not helpful at all. This doesn't explain how to change the notification sound that's specific to a specific app. For example, my Facebook Messenger sound when receiving a message just does the default sound that I chose for the phone in general. But I want to hear the "gling" sound that Facebook Messenger normally does.

@@Emmie7523u go to settings! Then notifications.. app notifications.. make sure to allow notifications! After that u click on new notifications right underneath the app notifications part then from there u should be able to select a specific ringtone sound for that app! Hope this helps 💯
On my phone, I had to tap the bell shape (it was to the left of the name of the notification) to get to the sound settings. It was Not obvious..... Hope that helps.

I agree. Not helpful. It doesn't explain how to use specific sound affects, especially downloaded ones, such as the star trek red alert sound for my star trek game.

I have a Samsung Galaxy A21S, with Android 12 (and most likely the last version that will work on this phone), and what you present do *NOT* work on my phone !
In the page with Notifications from Settings, clicking on each app individually will only turn ON or OFF the notifications; and that's it ! It will not open any new page, where you can select the sound for that notification !
So, what Samsung model were you working on in this video ?!?
@corneldiaconu66 It worked for me and I have a S9, which is considered an old phone. So if it worked for mine, then it should have worked for any model that's newer.

Still only lets u choose from stock sounds. Is there no way to access and set a custom downloaded sound?
Yes you can! I add my own sounds to use as notifications. What you have to do is download or transfer in an audio into your phone (I transfer downloaded mp3 files from youtube to use). You must then move that audio mp3 into Internal Storage >> Notifications. Then when you pick out your notification like in the video, you will see the one you added on the list. Just make sure the mp3 is not a long file or you will get annoyed by it playing
