  • WWII patrol-torpedo (PT) boats were a perfect naval expression of the American Spirit at war. Today, just four of these combat-veteran PT boats still exist in the United States. PT-305 is the only one that is fully restored.
Now, after a $3.3 million restoration effort and more than 100,000 hours of work by a dedicated corps of over 200 volunteers, PT-305 is ready to hit the water.
BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP TO FINISH THE JOB!
We need to raise $100,000 by April 7, 2016, to get PT-305 back to her home waters of Lake Pontchartrain. To raise the money, we need all hands on deck to make this a reality.
Join The Crew to help Launch PT-305 today!

The United States of America owes these PT Boat Heroes a debt it cannot repay. Hats off to the restoration crew, Bravo Zulu! As a former Tin Can Sailor, I am in awe of these brave souls who risked everything to destroy much larger steel hulled enemy ships from very close ranges. It saddens me to realize there are so few of America's Greatest Generation surviving today. Fair Winds and Following Seas Shipmates!

My grandfather, Paul James Lecouris, served on the PT-306. Keel laid the after this. Served in the same Ron. I know in my heart that he had to have walked this deck as well. I can hardly wait for the chance to walk in his footsteps. I miss you grandpa.

In mid-2016. my wife and I were extremely fortunate to get a personal
tour of PT305 as it neared the end of its magnificent restoration.
Special thanks to Josh Schick! We were on a cross-country RV trip and
visited the museum. Back in 2000, I had helped the museum acquire an
original WW2 Higgins-built LCP-L landing craft that I had once owned
back in the 1970s. I used it back then as a fishing boat in the SF Bay
Area. It had been sitting for decades in a quiet backwater, a home to
pigeons and struggling to remain afloat. I told the museum about its
existence and helped them purchase the boat. This LCP-L was then trucked
from San Francisco back to New Orleans where it was totally restored
just like this PT boat, launched and operated on the Industrial Canal in
a big celebration. It was then placed on display in the museum where it
remains today. Bravo to the museum team on the PT305...and thanks
again to Josh and the folks who kindly gave us our memorable tour.

I believe every generation after should be schooled and educated on the times of war, what the men and women did and sacrificed for our freedom. Not take flags, prayer or anything else from schools, but instill the ultimate sacrifices made for freedom. Loved the video, loved the history behind it. Thank you !!

God bless our many veterans as well as those who were lost during our great wars. These men and women sacrifice everything they hold dear to uphold our nation's beliefs and defend our constitutional rights, they deserve our upmost respect and admiration. PT-305 is a sacred piece of America from a generation of when our entire nation banded together to contribute to the war effort to defeat Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito. We lost so many good men and women on December 7th, 1941 and I pray that our nation's heroes are remembered. God bless America!

Wonderful to see this surviving craft. My Dad was a Merchant Marine that transported some of these over the Pacific during the war and, thanks to the guns aboard them, were able to shoot down attacking Japanese planes during that transport. He would have loved to see these again!

My 'uncle' Bobby Wright was a UDT frogman in the Pacific, where PT boats frequently towed the rafts from which the UDT crews were dropped off and then picked up again during invasion-preparation operations. The PTs also gave cover-fire to the UDT guys while they were in the water, clearing mines and removing booby-traps in order that invasion forces could re-take islands held by the enemy.

My wife and I will be riding on the 305 next month. I have been a fan of PT boat's since watching " They were expendable " as a young child. Also been a boater since July 20, 1969, happened to be the day the US first landed a man on the moon. Will be an adventure in contrast to the ride I took in the B-17 Aluminum Overcast several years ago, can't wait.

I knew the 305 was being restored, but I thought it was going to be simply a museum exhibit. I'm looking around on UA-cam today, and I see the 305 completed and back in action. She's a beauty and if I'm ever in New Orleans, I'll take a ride, what a thrill that will be.

Just across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY is the Howard Ship Yard (started in 1830) and they also built PT-boats. The Howard Ship Yard became "JeffBoat" after WWII and they are the largest builders of inland barges, but this company is almost 190-years old now. These originally built steamboats. You can find more data/records about their PT boats at the HOWARD STEAMBOAT MUSEUM which is still across the street from the shipyard.

Sadly I believe most all the volunteers who restored Pt-305 thought they were going to put her back in her
natural environment, the sea. Now she sits beached inside a museum . Her engines were restored but will not be run. In time her hull will rot.
Being in water is what kept her hull alive for decades.

Is on of them named the Patrick Kennedy. I was out in Boston harbor a few weekends ago and there was what looked to me like a pt hull but topside had been retrofitted with no topside deck but a deck about 3ft down inside the hill with rows of seats.i think for harbor cruise tours .I thought it was an old navy launch restored but it looked too big for that and like I said the hill was unmistakable.anybody familiar with this boat.

They've lost all their veterans...well it's normal...my grandpa would've been close to 100 if he hadn't died at 69. Boggles the mind how some people can try to twist something mundane into something special. Spoiler alert: just like me everyone who reads this will one day be worm food. Until then you have to keep busy and distract yourself from the fact you won't live forever in good health. Some do it by being melancholic about times when people were murdering each other wholesale while they were still young. Yay!
