EVERY LIVESTOCK FARMER NEEDS THIS | GROWING ALFALFA FOR THE FIRST TIME
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2022
- Every livestock farmer needs this; after trying to grow alfalfa for a long time and not succeeding, I finally cracked it. Feeding is one of the biggest challenges of livestock farming in Africa, to compliment the brachiara grass, I decided to also plant alfalfa.

What I learned from google: The name lucerne is the more commonly used name in the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Alfafa is use in North America. Thanks for showing us Alfafa!!
Thanks for sharing with us 🙏🏾
Fred, I have grown in for years in my cattle ranch. They help in early dry season but one big warning ⚠️. It causes severe bloating in animals if they eat it exclusively for a while. You must mix them with other grasses or feeds. Just like beans that make us pass gas a lot. Alfalfa has a lot of protein that gives gas in animals like beans does us but because they have 4 chambered stomach, the gas gets trapped and causes bloating. In worst cases it can kill your animal. I will advice you plant it with seasonal rye grass so the rye will outgrow the Alfalfa but not kill it and will also die off first as the dry season approaches leaving the Alfalfa to sustain the animals another month or two. I broadcasted it at planting. It's better that way. They are like peanuts 🥜 (ground nuts) and don't do well bunched up as they grow. My cows love it but I mix their diet. Thanks and good.
That’s good to know and thanks for sharing. I will also do more research on it and share what I get
Hello bro can I know where your farm is ? I want to start my livestock farming and would need more info before I start especially their feeds … would like to visit your farm to learn more… thanks

Hi Fred, I am in Jamaica. Can you share the type of Alfalfa seeds that you are planting?
Hello Clement, this is just a trial phase so I’ll let you guys know in my next video
@@FarmingInAfricaOfficial Trial or not, providing the name to this farmer would help him out, let's learn to share what we have as Africans because a random white farmer would have given the name regardless of trial.
Hello Fred, I am curious about about your hay bales. Since you have the machinery to create these bales, have you considered the idea of creating more to sell out to other farms as well, should you get such an enquiry please? That can be another form of income and this can be delivered straight from your farm, so you could sell with delivery with a minimum order quantity of 50 or more and not less, plus delivery charges, what do you think sir?
Hello Kwesi, thanks for your suggestion. Yes we have considered that and are already selling some of the bales. Do you or know someone who needs some?
@@FarmingInAfricaOfficial Fred, I could use some bales. How much do you take per bale and what’s the capacity you can supply weekly? Also what the wgt per bale?
Okay kindly send us a message through WhatsApp on the number +233241177677 and we can get your hay to you
Yes we can supply weekly, any quantity you want to wherever
@@FarmingInAfricaOfficial that’s great. Will hit you up on WhatsApp
Patiently waiting for when the seeds become available.
Another problem we have is finding good breeders.
Yes! But my team and I are working to make good quality seeds accessible to every African farmer. Is that something you will be interested in?
@@FarmingInAfricaOfficial We purchased some brachiara seeds from you which is doing well. Looking forward to when the alfafa will also be available.
Very well, I will update you when we do. But in the meantime, you can get in touch with us on our WhatsApp
