Discord’s New Notifications Beta (is surprisingly good!)

- Discord (for the first time this year) has made an actually GOOD feature. Their new notifications system.
Instead of having to deal with hundreds and hundreds of pings from large Discord servers that you joined during a deep down bad state, you can now easily pick and choose what notifications you want. Want to only be pinged when you get mentioned? Done. Want to stay in the loop without constantly having the white dot next to the server? Done. Want to not get notified about anything at all? Done.
And the best part? This is a Discord beta feature but Discord made it so that we can test it (all without blowing our Discord account up)

This is honestly one of the best changes I've seen in recent memory. It fixes so many problems that I have with the current notification system it's almost unreal.

i'm a developer and i'm in about 200 servers in discord mostly support servers so that i can just control t/k and type out the name of the thing that i want to get support on. this will help me so much that i cant even explain (especially the mass select mute part)

I prefer BetterDiscord, but if people find Vencord to be their go-to alternative, great I suppose. It's just none of my business.

This is awesome! I do still wish there was a way to completely block pings from a certain channel, let's say I am in a community server, but never care about the announcements. It'd be nice to remove the RED BADGE for the announcements channel from ever showing up in my client!
Also, it'd be cool if there's a setting that hides grey-dot channels when collapsing a category, or a "Mark Grey Dots as Read" option!

I downgraded to 205.14 a while ago, no idea why they decided to remove the good UI
A super useful setting for your notifications but you can only use it once. Thanks discord!

you can already do that though if you right click a server, drag on notification settings, click nothing, then go into the server and change the notification setting of a specific channel to whatever you like

Edit: This actually seems very useful. Ive had issues with my notifications before (the amount, the terrible way you set and organize the settings, etc)
so ill probably enable this when i get om my PC.

you.. actually can do this as discord is now.. its actually what i do on every server... right click the server and disable all pings and notifications (notification settings > nothing suppress all mentions, then go to a channel you like.. right click.. notification settings all.. @metntions etc...

Yeah this is SUPER helpful since I needed a better way to deal w constant Pings aside from MUTING everything off.
i wish discord would also support multiple notification sounds and messages
this way i would actually use the system for what it is intended
i remember writing a simple system for mIRC back in the day
where you could select any amount of people or channels
and turn on/off notifications, as well as specify what type of notification,
as well as the notification sound, and the notification location
it was not hard to make, nor did it take very long
so obviously what discord is doing is by design
(just like how major corporations or governments operate)
in order to make people's lives gradually more frustrating and cumbersome
without people realizing that they are the proverbial frog inside the kettle of water slowly being boiled

A way to distinguish @direct mentions from @role mentions would also be great. Is that MMO guild looking for *any* DPS, or are they looking specifically for *me* ?

My only gripe with this system, is I think the old-way for notifications, that is white dot for all messages and notifications are for mention only, should have also been a template called Classic or something.

didn't channel specific overrides already exist? i dont have the experimental feature but i always could select a specific channel that overrides the server's notification settings

experiments can sometimes be randomly assigned, so u might be in this experiment without explicitly enabling it, I seem to have most of these features already
@@mtarek2005No, this has been a feature for a long long time. You can set the server to no notifications and then override it for one channel. The grey dot is new, but not the override.

It has, but with the new notification system we have a lot more options with it now

I'm glad Discord is continuously working on improving the user experience. This feature seems like it will be really helpful for managing notifications more effectively.

Didn't even really notice the new notifications and got the white flag in servers I had previously muted so overall, did nothing for me.

i love how for some people it doesnt show up and have to break discord guidelines just to use something that discord made.
It's mostly bc it's being rolled out
its called A/B testing, some people get the feature, some do, well see the responses if they like it or not. UA-cam does it too. Its normal, but on discord they have a way of enabling them even if ur not part of the group, by using a client mod that shows the hidden option "Experiments" you dont even need a client mod for that but its easier and less likely to be exploited

Honestly notification are still pretty bad. On Windows they don't pop up as notifications, so sometimes I won't see them. And if I have my computer on I won't get notifications on my phone either. I hope they fix those two

me when i just hide 90% of all channels in a discord server so i also dont get pings, but also i just forget they exist sometimes
Not sure how useful this will be for me, either theres servers I care about and I want to be notified for basically any msg, and ones where I only care for announcements.

When you mute a channel you don't have to click "Until I turn it back on", it's the default, just click "Mute channel" 😬
