What I do with ice is take the total amount of balls/skeins and divide it by the total amount of the transaction and not even look at the shipping. So if I bought 35 skeins of yarn and my total with shipping was 125.00 I paid 4.16 per skein, cheaper than I can get most yarns anywhere else. To me it’s worth it if you look at it that way, if that makes sense.
When looking at Ice Yarns pricing, I just double the price in my mind and for the most part, I’ve been happy with most of what I’ve purchased in the past. My favorite is the Ice Yarns Elegant Metallic Cotton. It’s a chainette cotton with a thin metallic strand and I can make a lacy crochet top with one pack. ❤
I love Ice Yarns. In Australia we don't have the huge selection of yarns the US has, so its a great way to get some beautiful yarn. It gets here pretty quick, and once you average it out its pretty good. I'm waiting on a delivery of some non pilling acrylic and some cotton blends too. Have lots of Ice pretties in my stash too! Usually I get the bargain ones with a few current lots.
When you don't have labels that have info, look at the bag it comes in. It will have a sticker with a number on it. You can go onto the website and review your order and see the number and the name. It will be a link and it will open up the page for said yarn and there you can write on the label what the page says. Now that I said that, I hope they still do that! I have not bought yarn from them in 4 years. I'm still trying to work with all the yarn I bought, over the few years I did buy from them lol! Spent $780 over a 2 year period and ended up with my own room looking like a yarn shop! LOL Shipping is still worth it. Like doing math, take in account for how many skeins you got and then divide that number with the total price.....it's still less then buying it in the USA. Now....there is a trick to buying from ice and have less shipping. buy according to weight and place different orders. And last, I always got (no matter how much I ordered) my yarns within the 5-7 days to Missouri. I also will let you in on this last fact, ice yarn is a testing company for new yarns. SO yes, after a while the yarns will disappear because big names will buy the rights to it. Some companies will also let IY keep certain popular ones to sell, but most the time, you will go back 6 months later and try and get more.....nope....they gone! This is the reason why I quit buying from them for the most part.
Woah!!! this is all new information for me!! I had no idea...thanks for the heads up...I still like WeCrochet and LoveCrafts most, but I'm always on the lookout for more yarn sources!! Thanks!
Is that yarn worth 3.37 each? That is what it would be if you add the yarn and shipping together and divide it by 16. I used to get annoyed with Ebay for the same thing. People would sell stuff super cheap, but charge too much for shipping. But it usually worked out in the end. Very few places do free shipping anymore unless you buy a lot. I will find the yarn I want from different sources and calculate the best deal.
agreed!! I think that's why I like WeCrochet so much...the min to hit free shipping is low, and you can get some great prices on the yarn...and they stack discounts!!
I don't think it's that expensive even when you add uppp your shipping cost 53$ divided by 16 skeins of yarn is about 3,3$ per skein that's not expensive considering yarn prices in the stores :) you just need to find yarns that you really like with Ice I think to make it more "worthwhile" haha for me personally acrylic sin't really worth it, but their nicer arment worthy cotton yarns, lyocell yarns are :)
I took my cost of yarn with the shipping and divided that total by the total number of skeins I got and the price worked out to less than 3.00 per skein. Love Ice Yarns. Love their Picasso but they are out right now.
Personally I like to feel the yarn and look at it before purchasing so I don't buy much on- line unless I've used it before (like Malabrigo or purchases from Joanne's). I was at a craft fair and met a lady who uses Hobbi and after touching the things she made from them, I might try them. Yes, I have a feeling of the "coating" of which you speak on the first pack and that would be a big "no". I also remember as a teen my Mom smelling sweaters at the dept store and if it had a weird smell that was a "no" purchase so that has always stuck with me.
Premier basix on sale is the best value per yard by my calculations. Also Joanne brand when on sale and they pop a code in your cart! For Ice, the classic dk bought in batches of 14 packs is on par. You have to find the shipping sweet spot.
There should have been a "postal" option for shipping, but it actually costs WAY more, and can take weeks or even months to arrive. Also, advice I also always follow when ordering from Ice - per Christa @ the Secret Yarnery, don't order anything on Ice that you can easily get through "normal" channels. So, no basic acrylic, etc. If you decide to order Ice through other outlets, be conscious of the real cost, as everyone pays the same for Ice, and then the ppl that sell on Amazon, Etsy, etc., have to add their profit onto that cost. Yes, they pay less for shipping per skein due to the amount they order, but in the end the difference is not that significant. Have a great day. 🐞
Squeaky yarn is icky for sure. I feel some Red Heart that way so I wash it in a garment bag or pantyhose knee highs to prevent unravelling, before I use which helps tremendously. Thanks for the review. Will probably pass due to extra fees & spend on my favorite Malabrigo or a new fancy hook instead❤
I usually make a big purchase once a year. I never had squeaky yarn. The yarn has to air out for a couple of days. If you take the amount of skeins and divide by the total u paid (including taxes) its not that bad.
You need to add your total cost, which is shipping and the cost of the year and then divide it by the number of skins you purchased. Your figuring it out all wrong thinking shipping is too high when the yarn is so cheap.
I don’t blame you for not liking Ice. I have never purchased Ice yarns and I really don’t think I will. I think I can get anything I want from other merchants. Sorry for your disappointment.🥰
Still waiting for my delivery because it was in customs and then “undeliverable” per their shipper - meanwhile I have received numerous other packages with no issues. Once I insisted they refund my order they stopped responding to my emails. Never again! 😡
Their shipping company sometimes gets the number duplicated by Fed ex….so my order was lost and I got an order delivered for someone three states away instead 🙄. They were like sorry, not our problem, contact the carrier. Ummmmm….not my problem either guys! Filed with PayPal and they had zero proof that it got to me so I got my money back even though they said they don’t refund.
Including shipping, you paid an average of $3.30 per skein, i.e. $53.00/16 skeins. There is no way you are going to pay that little per 150-200g skein with free shipping domestically unless the yarn is on clearance. Plus if you buy yarn on clearance on the site, your cost per skein goes even lower. It's the most cost effective way to purchase more expensive fibers like bamboo, wool & wool blends. I'm sorry to sound mean, but your math skills need work.

You're absolutely right!! I think I got caught up in the colors, and I knew I needed acrylic...the nicer yarns may be an option!

isn't it funny what "sticks with us." I hope I will enjoy working with this yarn...the colors are pretty!

@@Kimberly_Knit4Brains LOL..I meant a big ICE yarn purchase in December. A Xmas present to me, myself and I.

You paid about $3 a skein. Comparable to big box sale prices.
That's true. ;)

This is definitely not good!!
You're suppose to tell us dear the number on the bags so we know what yarn it is..... just saying😊😊😊
LOL!! I'm an "ICE Newbie" but I'll figure it out! Apparently, I need to order more! :)
You can not buy individual skeins from Ice Yarns. 4 for 5.99 is 1.49 each. You said less than a dollar each. Where you go to school?
Thanks.😄

@@Kimberly_Knit4Brains I got a box of computer conductor units worth 2500! We sent them to the owner.

Huge fan of Hobbii!!
