Much respect for Bob.. The character on TV was very close to the man himself. Fitness enthusiast, Olympic wrestling fanatic... set a positive example to the youth in the audience.
Love this Comment
Stan is such a great interview and a class act by not bad mouthing
Agreed also bob is great
In 1979, outside MSG, I saw Backlund about to enter a taxi. I yell "How about a handshake?" He walks 50 feet over to me and shakes my hand. I was twelve and very impressed. He was a great workhorse for the WWWF back then. Used to see him every month and he packed the house. I'd sit first few rows ringside, getting my tickets on the way to school Tuesday morning.
Love This
I saw Bob wrestle numerous times at the Philadelphia Spectrum . He was always fantastic. His matches were pure excitement every Saturday night. A great champion .
Agreed
I was 12 when I got to see Bob wrestle Don Muraco in my little Upstate NY town. Got to see it front row. Dam ticket cost me 2 weeks allowance. Was worth it.
@@Evan-lr8nq love it
Darn ticket
What small town?
@ Ogdensburg NY. Tiny little "city" on the Saint Lawrence river.
I was about 10 years old. I was in bed sleeping and my father actually woke me up on a school night to watch Bob Backlund Vs. Stan Hansen at MSG. I think it was the cage match.
Believe it or not, I wanted Stan Hansen to win. I liked all the rule breakers. Adrian Adonis was my favorite. There were so many great WWF wrestlers. Then Georgia Championship Wrestling started being shown on TBS on Saturday and Sunday. We were in pro wrestling heaven. Every weekend, all my friends would come over my house because I had a huge family room with a TV that had cable. We’d watch a few hours of wrestling, then kick the living shit out of each other. It was great!! We’d have Battle Royals where you had to eliminate the other guy by throwing him over the back of the couch.
Just try to imagine around 10 to 15 4th grade kids beating the shit out of each other at the same time and loving every second of it. My parents would freak out as lamps and shit got broken all the time. We’d start hitting each other with “foreign objects”. I remember putting green food coloring in water, then climbing up on the back of my couch aka “the top rope” and spitting green mist like The Great Kabuki. I’d be spinning in circles with green shit coming out of my mouth. My mother thought I was insane. It’s amazing my parents didn’t put me in an insane asylum.
Love this thanks for sharing you brought me back to my youth
Backlund, during his nearly 6 year reign, made every rulebreaker he fought extremely credible. That in itself says a lot about the man.
wow, such respect from Stan for Bob Backlaud.
@@johnsawh8459 yes
In Backlund's book, Bob said his matches were always stiiff when he wrestled Stan because they had a rivalry stemming back to when they both wrestled for the Funks in Amarillo.
How good is that book we loved it
I thought because someone put in his ear that Stan was going to steal title
Stan the man hansen was no joke
Agreed
Bob Backlund was a great champion. How do I know? Was at the Spectrum every Saturday for years. This myth is bullsh... Packed houses every night inSouth Philly!
@@finch45lear love it
One a stiff lariat professional, the other an absolute unit of energy and wrestling finese.
Yes
The Mr. Backlund heel character is epic IMO...I loved it when he put 'Golden Boy' Arnold Skaaland in the Crossface Chicken Wing...
love it
And Backlund’s Heel Character was Unique without breaking a Rule in the Ring. It was Based on Aggressive Techniques of Amateur Wrestling!
Mr Bob thank you for the oil. U the best sir😊
@@CarlosSanchez-bg4wf Cool
Bob Backlund was my generations John Cena but didn't suck.
@@julioguzman3687 lol
Bob Backlund was the Best! No one could beat him!
I saw the Steel Cage match at The Garden..
Bob Backlund
VS
Stan "The Lariot" Hansen
It was insane!
I think they fought in the cage for over 2hrs, if i can remember..
@@nodaysback1 agreed
@@montethepharaohli1prowrestling Hey Bud, l'v been trying to find what the time of their cage match actually was, but that detail doesnt seem to be listed or discussed.
l remember it being an impressively long time.
Both athletes were physically depleted and severeley dehydrated.
Do you know?
Thanks
@@nodaysback1 we love that match 15:10 was the tome
better then muraco vs snuka
Are you saying that the match lasted only 15minutes 10seconds?
I know l was only a young kid, but for some reason, l remember it went on for 2hrs plus..
Maybe lm mistaking that with a different Backlund fight? Idk..
@@nodaysback1 no we felt the same way but yes only fifteen minutes
In Backlund's awesome autobiography he tells a story that when he was just getting started in wrestling he would sleep in the trunk of his car with a baseball bat for protection.
@@donwilcox728 yes in his last interview with us he goes into detail
Stan Hansen, the originator of the Clothesline from Hell.
@@Rockhound6165 Yes
Was never a fan of Backlund. Stan Hansen on the other hand I thought was great.
Understood
I hated bob backlund was the greatest champion ever i used to go to Boston gardens every two weeks he beat every bad guy i was shocked a friend told me that iron shiek beat him i stunned didn't believe him
@@mdcmdc1336 Same here
Use punctuation. Breathe. Are you a preteen?
@@Massivemonster1234 ahh
I was A WWWF Backlund Fan and I accepted the Iron Sheik Loss until He was Beaten by the (Dump Hogan). I have watched Every TV Wrestling group eversince and Have despised the Vinnie Mac approach to Sports Entertainment while I refuse watching (WWF-WWE) Ever again Since Hogan. I even Hated the WCW CHUMP Hogan ERA….
Love the honesty thank you
Bib kicked his azz in new york and japan. Lol
yes
Great Grammar, Shakespeare.
@@Massivemonster1234 ouch
Lmao Backlund was the most non athletic person ever. Being “in shape” is completely different than being athletic. Idk wtf Hansen is talking about. Lmao
@@heathertiller3644 really the guy was a ncaa champion
@@montethepharaohli1prowrestling being athletic means being able to play other sports, not just amateur wrestling. Anyone that saw him wrestle back in the day, that knows natural athleticism, could see that although he was a great amateur wrestler, he was not a great athlete.
@@heathertiller3644 you make some really good statements, but I just cannot agree. I watched Backland for five years in Madison Square Garden the cop a great Pro Wrestling he had a lot of athletic ability.
@@montethepharaohli1prowrestling that’s awesome! We will just agree to disagree.
@@heathertiller3644 good stuff love tslking respectful conversations when both see each others points even though they disagree
Bob Backlands first WWWF Championship he was not a he was at true fitness God👌✌️👍🙏🤔🤌
