Thank you so much everyone for tuning in with us!! And all of the supportive comments. Been slowly raising audio for all present & future uploads. It is the main thing blocking my uploads even with distortions effects added. Also I saw a few people bring up my savages comment. I mean that as modern slang like (beast, bada**, Unit, weapon) etc. etc. Not as in literal savage. Top 5 movies of all time the more i sit on this one

15:05 Actually, they believed that their souls were located in their bellies. Slitting their bellies ensured that their souls would be released.
Also, the ending satisfies both Japanese and Western audiences; the Japanese, because the Japanese hero died, and the Western audiences, because the Western hero lived.
Also, samurai are a caste; you have to be born a samurai to be a samurai. Katsumoto is thus the last samurai.

buke is the caste, a samurai is a member of the buke, a bushi who serves a higher bushi. Katsumoto is a daimyo, a high ranking samurai who is the head of a han/province. The daimyo served the shogun or in this case, the emperor. And originally they served the shugo, the provincial governeurs, as military commanders, while the shugo were direct gokenin (household samurai) of the shogun.

34:58 Not a lot of people notice this, Katsumoto actually shields Algren with his own body while they are under fire.
Remember, Algren killed Taka's husband not that long ago. Of course she is going to be conflicted in how she feels.
Bob is Him. Seizo Fukumoto has died 20,000 agonizing deaths. He's been gored by samurai and gunned down by gangsters. His bloodied body has slammed into trees, tumbled down stairs and crashed through sliding paper-and-wood doors.
No. Katsumoto was The Last Samurai. Algren was just there to witness it.

Katsumoto's "they are all perfect" carries a deep spiritual meaning, a moment of supreme clarity and enlightenment before death.
Of course this is presented in a romantic way, but in essence it's a very Zen idea.
We watch the world and we lay our judgment upon things and label them based on our subjective expectations without even realizing that we're doing that.
Thus we see things the way we want to see them not the way they truly are.
We deem things as good or bad based upon our selfish criteria.
But that good-bad duality doesn't really exist.
If we remove ourselves from the equation, things in and of themselves are neither good, nor bad.
A tree can be a good thing to us if it's useful or if we deem it beautiful, and it can be a bad thing if it doesn't correspond to our values or expectations.
But the tree itself doesn't give a damn about those opinions. It just is. And it is exactly how it's supposed to be.
Everything in the universe is perfect in itself. Every cherry blossom is perfect according to it's own standards, only our subjective opinions can deem it imperfect.
We constantly judge and label things. If I ask you what is this: + some people will say it's a plus sign, others that it's a cross, yet others that it's the letter "t".
But all those things, the plus, the cross, the t exist only in our minds. Meanings that we artificially attach to everything.
In the simplest reality, + is two black lines on a white surface.
This goes way, waaaay deeper but I hope it's a good starting thought.

"Wonder what he meant by that."
K: a man could spend his entire life searching for the perfect blossom and it would not be a wasted life.
Also K: perfect. They are ALL perfect.
He realized at the end that it's pointless to search for perfection, because nature IS perfection.
And it's metaphor of life. Everything and everyone has its place and role and all of it is as it should be. This is Buddhism.

The old adage goes, "Never bring a knife to a gun fight!" Still, bringing a gun alone is not always the best plan of action. While guns can be deadly effective from quite a distance, knives/swords have their own advantages. As shown in this film, a swords best feature is that it does not have to be reloaded.

For sure a good movie. I heard you go on and on about Shogun during the reaction and I was just wondering if you had ever seen the show Westworld. I won't say exactly WHY you may be interested or how it connects but I try to get everyone to watch that show anyhow. I'm not sure if you've heard anything about that show at all and so I won't say anything now and I'd urge you not to look up much on it as if you're completely unaware of what it's about it can add a BIG chunk of enjoyment to it. I know you don't know me so my recommendations carry basically no weight but it has to be one of my favorite (if not favorite) shows ever.
And yeah, Tom Cruise is pretty neat. You'll have to go on a Tom... cruise... and see what else you think is good. Just please, PLEASE, as someone who was around when a lot of these movies came out, PLEASE watch more than just his MIssion Impossible movies. Yeah, sure, they can be really entertaining but there is a lot more to him than just those movies. Watch some of his 80's movies and then work your way up. Some people popular today aren't just popular because they recently made a good movie. A lot of them have a long history of good movies kind of like those that only see Keanu Reeves as John Wick as if he had no history before that. And no, I'm not just talking about Neo either.
Okay, I'll leave you guys alone now. TL;DR? I like stuff and you should like stuff too! :P

Enjoyed your reaction but seppuku wasn’t a cut into the lower abdomen because they thought that was where the heart is located. They cut open enough people to know the correct internal anatomy. It was done in the lower abdomen because they felt that was the most painful. They didn’t want the taking of one’s life to be seen as taking the easy way out, so they felt to be truly honorable, the pain must be even greater than what they were experiencing. You correct that that area, known as hats, is very important in Japanese culture and martial arts.

Although it is not widely known, samurai also used guns. It is estimated that there were as many as 500,000 guns in Japan in the second half of the 16th century.
Also, the original main weapon of the samurai was not the sword but the bow. The earliest samurai were heavy archer cavalry. As the age of the samurai drew to an end and wars decreased, the role of the samurai shifted from soldiers to bureaucrats, and the sword became a symbol of status (of course, it was also used as a weapon for self-defense).

Close but no they didn't think the heart was in the stomach they thought the hara was in the stomach the spirit in& center of emotions. Also, the mempo or face mask, fits tight to the face and didn't block his vision at all. he got stabbed because he was already committed to lunging down when Tom Cruise picked up the spear. Having the mask on didn't stop him from seeing it. The movies called The last Samurai has nothing to do with Tom Cruise being The last Samurai. The word Samurai is both singular and plural, the name The last Samurai is talking about the last of all of the Samurai in Japan. One winter spent with some Japanese folks does not make you a samurai it takes both a bloodline and a lifetime of training.

The only thing i dislike about this movie (and its a small thing) is the ninja attack scene. They managed to get there without being seen. They were all decked out in black to blend in with the night. And then they attack into the light with arrows. I am no expert, but i am pretty sure ninjas are assassins not warriors. They would have waited till everyone went to bed and stabbed or poison them in their sleep.
