    This was a triumph
I'm making a note here; "Huge success"
    It's hard to overstate
    My satisfaction
    Aperture Science:
    We do what we must
    Because we can
For the good of all of us
Except the ones who are dead
    But there's no sense crying
    Over every mistake
    You just keep on trying
Till you run out of cake
    And the science gets done
And you make a neat gun
    For the people who are
    Still alive
    I'm not even angry
I'm being so sincere right now
Even though you broke my heart,
    And killed me
    And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into a fire
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you
    Now, these points of data
    Make a beautiful line
    And we're out of beta
    We're releasing on time
So I'm GLaD I got burned
Think of all the things we learned-
    For the people who are
    Still alive
    Go ahead and leave me
I think I'd prefer to stay inside
    Maybe you'll find someone else
    To help you?
    Maybe Black Mesa?
That was a joke Haha - Fat Chance
    Anyway this cake is great
    It's so delicious and moist
    Look at me: still talking
    When there's science to do
    When I look out there,
It makes me GLaD I'm not you
    I've experiments to run
There is research to be done
    On the people who are
    Still alive
    And believe me I am
    Still alive
    I'm doing science and I'm
    Still alive
    I feel fantastic and I'm
    Still alive
    While you're dying I'll be
    Still alive
And when you're dead I will be
    Still alive
    Still alive

Honestly, John Doe is such a fascinating version of the Joker that he almost doesn’t feel like the Joker at all. Like, there’s obviously a lot of parallels between the two, but John’s just so… different. He feels like a guy that really does need help, but could be helped, who isn’t destined for supervillainy or anything cliche like that. It’s what makes his Vigilante route so great, because he genuinely, truly, earnestly is trying to be as heroic as Batman, and you get the impression that, if things went a bit differently, maybe he really could.
Really, John Doe is a testament to what the game did best: Taking the familiar characters apart and reworking them. Vicky Vale goes from a bland reporter love interest to a villainous femme fatale. Penguin goes from a parody of upper crust elites and is instead more of a working class hero whose need for revenge takes him down (because he’s still a villain). Harley Quinn, no longer the victim of an abusive relationship with the Joker, instead she’s the one in control… although the relationship is still abusive.
And honestly, my favorite of them: Thomas Wayne no longer being the angel that Bruce can look up to, instead revealed as not just bad, but a thoroughly corrupt mob boss. The “The Batman” movie this year felt like it was trying to hit those same notes, but without the commitment to really follow through on it, while Telltale had the freedom to really try something there, and it really echoed throughout the games. I don’t know if I want a Season 3, it’s a whole mess with the studio folding and then getting resurrected/replaced-with-scabs, but I’m glad for what we did get, at the very least.

I’m fine with how the latest movie handled Thomas Wayne. I think it’s equally fair to make him not simply plain evil but a human being that was human and flawed. It creates difficulty for Bruce to process. And it nicely reflects the hope and flaws of Gotham. There is good there and yet weakness can create evil too.
I will agree that the Joker is handled so well in this game that you almost have to treat him like being someone completely distinct from the Joker. It takes advantage of our knowledge and maybe even fear of the Joker while giving John Doe a great story arc.

While playing Batman Telltale, John Doe reminded me a lot of an "old" character from the *Nightwing* run that started in 1996 (and ended in 2009)...
      Tad Ryerstad, aka _Nite-Wing_
Like John Doe with Batman, Tad idolizes Dick Grayson/Nightwing, and genuinely wants to become a hero to fight at his side.
Dick is usually the level-headed ex-Robin, so we think he's going to turn this dude down, but Nite-Wing shows at a time where he needs an ally to take Blockbuster down, and...
The reader know that Tad means well, but is not right in the head, but Dick didn't see all what we did, and he agrees to train Nite-Wing while not seeing what is obvious to us.
Thing is, you really get attached to Tad, I know I did at least, so even if you know things are going to end up badly I kept hoping that Grayson would find a way...
Sadly, it pretty much ends like the good ending to John Doe, without Dick assuring him that they've ever been friends, which then turns in the bad ending, and in the end, well...
I'm glad I was at least able to visit John in Arkham, and even if I don't have much hope left for another Telltale game, I'll be sure to buy it if a sequel ever comes out.

@@Flaris The Batman's Thomas Wayne is an excellent compromise because the reason he did what he did is...entirely understandable. He was a wonderful husband & father, who dearly loved his wife, and couldn't imagine people hurting her like that. If some asshole were threatening to do that to someone I cared for, and *knew* couldn't take it, and I had the means to ensure it doesn't happen? It'd take a lot to persuade me otherwise.

The last episode of season 2 is honestly the best and really shows how your choices matter and how telltale did care. You can trust John and turn him into the joker, not a criminal but rather a violent anti-hero-like person. Or you can try to arrest him and be weary of him, pushing him to be the murderer and monster we know joker to be in literally every other universe. It's something I really like that they did. The whole thing about joker in the games is that his insanity and not knowing his backstory could actually be more useful in making him a vigilante rather than a villain. In the end depending on your choices, he can murder people just for the fun of it and release a deadly virus on the city, or he can help you take down Waller and this game's version of her suicide squad, killing people only because he believes killing is the only way to bring justice, which makes it all so much more different than normal joker we get in other games, shows, movies, and comics. And depending on which one you fight and whether or not you considered them a friend in the end could be perfect for determining what happens in season 3

You know what I liked about Telltale batman? It explores the story of Bruce more than the comics or the movies. And i especially like how batmans backstory is radically subverted by making one small change, that the waynes were not a philantrophic saint of a family that all other batman media put them up to be. This really puts into perspective what bruce is really fighting for instead of the same old story of my parents are dead.

Doesn’t seem all that unique to me. Might be confirmation bias, but except for B:TAS, I can’t find a modern version that even mentions Bruce’s parents and doesn’t demonize them in some way. Even Batman Begins makes them look ineffectual. Personally, I think they work best as role models for Bruce. Making what he believes about them to be a lie is just stupid and unhealthily cynical. Not everything about has life has to or should suck.

To be fair, there is actually a similar split in how Season 1 ends - whether you stop Cobblepot or Dent alters a significant portion of not only the episode, but the characters' relationships. Dent is actually more scared of himself in the aftermath if you didn't stop him at Wayne Manor. While I agree that certain moments being hardcoded was a disappointing consequence of the season's limited budget, you are given a fair amount of agency with Selina, Gordon, and Alfred. Which is why a lot of Season 2 tests all three of those relationships on top of John, which alongside the many new villains, honestly multiplies the number of unique relationship dynamics you can develop.
Plus, I'm gonna add, even if she's deadset in her ways, this series has the most interesting version of Vicki Vale (in over a decade AT LEAST).

The difference between the 2 was that revenge was what defined Vicki, so she went the whole way to kidnap alfred, but Oswald was happy taking all of Bruce's money and forcing Bruce to live the life of poverty that Oswald did.

I was really hoping that you would talk about how the player is largely robbed of choice by this series due to the iconic relationship between the joker and batman. I was so excited when you brought up john and was sad to see you didn't touch on some of its most messed up pieces. I don't know if you got these scenes in your play throughs but I have gotten both and through talking with others have come to the conclusion that you can only get one of these scenes and neither impact the story at all even though they really should. Here's what I'm talking about for those who haven't heard or seen them for themselves: in Batman telltale you can get either a scene where John says he has romantic feelings for Bruce or one where Bruce implies he had feelings for John. However these two scenes are mostly treated like they don't exist by the game at large and there is no option as Bruce to act on it in any way. If John confesses to Bruce you have no choice but to be silent or turn him down.

Telltale Batman is one of the greatest experiments with the character and I am so glad it exists even if we never get any more. Honestly during The Batman my mind kept going to how I feel Telltale went farther with certain ideas, not even due to the amount of time, but because they took serious risks. Thomas Wayne does not get an out for some of his crimes, and while Vicki and the Riddler end up kinda having the same failings, Vicki works far better for me because her parallels with Bruce went farther. Riddler could have been perfect, but I felt they fumbled and then completely crashed with that essentially 4th act. Vicki not having any real difference in reaction to learning Bruce is Batman sucks, but the character still drew me in so much because Bruce being Batman doesn't change most of her critiques.
As for John Doe, god they did some beautiful with that. Never thought I would deeply care for the Joker and Batman's friendship. Its funny, I made sure my Bruce cared for John every step of the way, but I still went with making him Joker and I honestly stand by it. I get why people prefer the vigilante ending, but there is something so wonderful for me about Bruce screwing up that friendship in such a key way that he cares just as much as he does in the vigilante ending, but now he doesn't have a broken friend John to go back to and see, but a Joker that cares about him just as much but sees them fighting as the only way for him to help Bruce.
I loved emphasizing Bruce Wayne over Batman, always hated the "batman is the true face" shit, and Telltale made a story that let me fully commit to that, to the point of literally choosing Alfred over Batman in both seasons. And that was why I went villain, Bruce, not Batman being the one to fail John and make him the Joker, and their final scene/first scene when you think about it, being Bruce as himself, as the man John was friends with, the humanity in him John helped save, making the ending all the more crushing. I fully believe in there being hope for that friendship, which is why I went with it ending like that. Joker happy about playing with Batman from now on, while Bruce is left just wanting his friend back
"you broke my heart" never ceases to fucking hurt everytime. What an incredible series

It has its downs and ups, Jhon Doe is fine, nothing that good, it was fun to see Harley creating Joker (some one had to test it out), but it should stay as it is. But HOLY FUCK Selina is soo well written from the beggining to the end, I know its the work of og voice acctres, but i cant stop myself from smileing when shes on screen, whole realationship Cat- Bat is perfectliy done.

I find it funny how they always manage to screw Bane up in every damn adaptation (except for the fantastic Arkham Origins Bane). Even Paul Dini couldn’t write a good Bane.

When did telltale come back? There's been no announcement? Bane was great in this series the most comicbook accurate. The villain characters always end up becoming the villains their meant to be even if you choose the good endings. John Doe becomes a vigilante yes but he ends up becoming a version of the joker anyway. It's a good game but your taking part in a movie that already has 2 set points where either outcome is batmans villains become the villains their meant to be or some alternate version.

Telltale Games filed for assignment in October 2018. Many assets were later acquired by LCG Entertainment, which revived the Telltale Games name as part of its business in August 2019, retaining many of the company's previous licenses and offering former staff freelance positions.
Also The Wolf Among Us Season 2 is back on track and they released a teaser with some game footage awhile back.

Okay, Thomas and Martha weren’t corrupt in The Batman… but helping Carmine Falcone did kind of put them in a very bad spot. They were just desperate people and desperation makes people do the dumbest things imaginable. Absolutely NO ONE is as bad as the TellTale Thomas Wayne.

Yep, as typical of the telltale formula - no matter how good or how badly you treat characters or even the story itself, the story doesnt change
Therefore that warning at the start of each episode is completely fabricated and useless in its meaning

Hey dude. I know English isn't probably your first language, I can hear some kind of accent? This is just me nit-picking but generally 'An' is prefaced before a word with a 'i' , 'e' pr 'o' in singular context. Like you could say "an elephant," "an octopus" or "an idiot" to describe the stingy grammatical arsehole I'm being right now. So "an serious review" seems less serious rather than "a serious review." But who cares you are very self-aware and you could keep it in for irony's sake if you wanted to.
