Concubine Yue suddenly turning and attacking him herself is one of the best scenes in drama history. I didn't see it coming but it was fantastic 😂
So far he is the only non protagonist Emperor that is kind to core that i ever see in chinese drama. He is so cute that the whole drama i just keep praising the charater. This is how An Emperor should be, wise, loving, and have good morals.

As much as I agree that this emperor is wise and kind, he is too kuch of a "teddy bear" for his time..I would think that an emperor who has only just started a dynasty, been in power for just over a decade, he would need to be more decisive and strong..he just overthrew the previous dynasty..his temperament should be colder, like his son the 3rd Prince...or even get lessons from his concubine. SHE was strong and at the same time still had a heart. She knew where and when to fight her battles.
The consort too is the best

I love that Consort Yue is there to gently remind him that he's Emperor and bound by conventions of the court and all that. As a concubine, even one with equal status to the Empress, she doesn't have to be. LBY has great foster parents, all of whom are ready to throw hands in their own way
I do enjoy the Emperor's attempts to guide her away. It looked less of a "can't do that in court" and more of a "please don't kill him right now".

I think the Emperor treated Hou as if a blood brother (or a favored general). And his passing along with his family devastated him. Cause in the scene before this he recalled a memory of Hou when he was very young, and that he had a birthmark.

i am sure it as been said 1001 times but the emperor caracters, and his two wives (their frienship is one of my favorit thing in this drama), are juste wonderfull. I loved him the minute i saw him, he is warm, fair, kind, human, loving, it is a blessing for all his country to have him as a ruler.
Yup, the empress and Imperial concubine are amazingly tight. Plus he has the best of both worlds because the empress is gentle and soft and the imperial concubine is fiesty and protective. Just goes to single partners or one wife and a concubine that get on as sisters/best friends work far better than harems fully of scheming women. The three royals work beautifully together. Its so nice to see a GOOD emperor too.
Consort Yue is not concubine
Um...I loved his character, too, and thought he was hilarious, but a whole ton of the problems in the drama (especially in the second half) are caused by his flaws as an emperor.
He constantly worried more about maintaining harmony over seeking justice or awarding merit.
In his family, he constantly overlooked corruption from either of his wives' family since it would disrupt the power balance. He either had to be forced to by evidence brought by Ling Buyi to act or he waited till both sides showed disgression and punished them evenly. Because he was worried of being seen as showing too much favor to the wife he preferred, he picked the other wife's son as crown prince, even though that son did not have the skill set or nature for the job. Because of the emperor always prioritizing evenness, the children on the two sides ended up very faction-like. The two youngest daughters, especially, became total brats in their fight for getting one up on the other side because of their perceived injustices not being addressed.
In politics, the emperor would do the same thing. He frequently tried to stop investigations when it seemed like the consequences of finding the truth would be disruptive, so Ling Buyi would have to do them in secret. He made a rule of only one member per family being in government for power balance. This made A'yao's brother, who had plenty of merit, get bullied by his Uncle into staying home. The reason Ling Buyi had to hide his identity and try to find perfect evidence of what happened in the past is because he did not trust the Emperor to get to the truth. He figured the Emperor would just brush his story aside since it would tear the court basically apart. Ling Buyi felt he had to have all the evidence first before the Emperor would be forced to give his family justice.

Ok but the fact that yuan and the third prince were literally waiting at the gate waiting to make a dramatic entrance at the right time 😂 ,like both entered at the exact time evidence was asked like that can't be coincidence 😂

She is not concubine she is the first wife before Emperor ascend to the throne thru the help of Empress Xuan family their resources including Gen.Hou if u watch the scene death anniversary of Gen.Hou that consort Yue reminding consort Rouyang
Consort Yue Heng is 2nd to the Emperor. She didn't want to be the Empress but has equal status to Empress Xuan Shen'an. Yue Heng is no dummy, too. She understands the affairs of the nation, more than the Empress but was never arrogant about it. She is happy in her own palace, unless someone crosses her unfairly...then, she's up in arms, you'll surely get what you deserve ftom her.
I love that as soon as one official spoke up to say "Please punish Official Zuo", ALL THE OTHERS JOINED IN. Everyone in this room is 110% done with Zuo's shit :D

The conniving Censor Zuo was in on LI and the Marquis attempting to usurp and take over the throne.
LBY 'The God of War', was a big obstacle and had to be rid of.
Hopefully Zuo was whipped to death, boiled alive or Death of a Thousand Cuts! 😅

I loved that! The Emperor dished one out worthy of the Emperor in "Yanxi Palace", and his consort doesn't shriek at the physical violence but is all, " Honey, you're getting too old for.this". She uses the law that the official is supposed to be upholding to refute him (while gently but firmly keeping the Emperor from repeating the kick). Her "I was at the front with the.Emperor before you were an official" line made me gasp out loud. But when Official Jerk kept hammering on his personal vendetta to the point of insulting, the advocate of law laid into him with a kick as beautiful as she is.

@@hpr2008 I agree. His constant badgering kept attention focused on himself and that’s when vengeance came for him instead. He was a really dirty, greedy man which explains why both of his children turned out so bad. The daughter kept attacking CSS and his son tried to murder LBY on at least 2 occasions. Well that’s their immediate bloodline wiped out.

I like this drama better then others drama because others drama the Emperors have so many wife and the fight for their son to be the next Emperor or fight for power.and the Emperor don’t know when to stop having so many wife.
I really like Third Prince as an actor. I want to see Gao Han in roles as the Main lead. He has been fantastic in every role I've seen him in. And on a note about this scene... always follow the money...

this is the first drama I've ever watched were the concubine the Empress and the emperor actually get along I don't try to kill each other .
at 6:15 Yep. Emperor Wen is a fair emperor, despite of that Official purposely pinning Ling Bu Yi to the "misuse of seal" to punish him, the emperor still protected him and question the third prince "why" the official should be strip down from his position. We don't know what is the real personality of Emperor Wen in real life, but the character of his in this drama is like extremely rare thing to happen.

The first time I saw this scene, when Concubine Yue came in and reminded the Emperor that because of his status as Emperor he has to observe court etiquette, I thought for sure she was going to say "I, however, am under no such obligation!" and turn around and kick Zuo right in the nuts.

🌸He does love his children but with all their advantages in life that they have, they’ve done nothing but disappoint him. He and the 2 wives have tried so hard to teach them the right way to live but with exception of LBY, the crown prince and his younger brother (3rd prince), all the others have disappointed them. Even the crown prince has because he is a lovely man but a weak crown prince.
