- Hi Everyone! A little bit of fun here! Revving an old vintage Lego technic V4 Engine(8865 set) until it fails.
Thanks to my subscriber friend Ghost for suggesting this!
I’m using 22 Motors and 10 powered up hubs here with a 1:75 gear set up.
Thanks for Watching/Reading 😀

That’s incredible! Did you say 36 years old! It’s so well balanced and smooth, very surprising! Awesome video as always man, keep it up!
Hey Easton cheers! 32 I think maybe 33! My brother built this when I was 5 lol. I think that’s why it held together😂
Oh, 32 lol, that’s still insanely old!… wait, that’s the same one your brother built or you recreated it?
Same one it’s been in my Lego box for years untouched unlike the rest of the car! I can’t wait to build it again though!
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines my only question is why
@@Egerit100 It's not about 'Why?' it's about 'Why not?'
Ok, that is just mind-blowing, I’m shocked the engine held! It looked like it was gonna fall apart! Btw this is my alt account
Hey Benen! I think because it’s so old and never been apart it’s literally seized together! Almost as old as me 😀😂
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines That middle gear connecting the driveshaft had some insane wobble going on! I'd love to see the damage to the shaft ends going into it!
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines oh wow🤣
@@AIRDRAC I’ve not inspected it yet! I could believe how much it was moving when I turned it upside down! I can’t believe it didn’t just self destruct!
That's insane, makes me wonder whether all of the "things were built better back in the day" stuff is true or whether that really has partly cold welded together. Awesome stuff nonetheless!
Hey cheers! I think it’s the latter more as I think they’re literally seized on now but it was a solid design! 😀
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines do a test with a modern one
Things 100% were built way better before. Planned obsolescence is a thing now, to maximize profits, whereas before, the goal used to be to make a good product...
@@AHSEN. Yup! Just take a look at any newer fan, car, appliance, or light bulb after the 90’s, and you will see that in action.
@@AHSEN. well its also cheaper for u know so its also good
Lool
I love how you can see the vibrating patterns through various sinc ratios
Cheers Lars there’s some weird movements going on when you look close! Surprised me it didn’t self destruct!
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines Yeah it's definitely wobbling a lot
I came here to see things blow up but im still satisfied
😂😂 and thank you
2:51 "I must go now. My people need me"
😂
I recognised that engine as soon as I saw it. The Test Car was one of the larger Technic sets I got as a kid! I dismantled and rebuilt it so many times!
Now try a modern engine and see how that goes!
Oh great I’ve yet to make it yet! This was my bros and I was only 5 when it came out but I can’t wait to put it back together!
Me too!! Mind you, I was 22 at the time 😉 Never too old, I still buy set n parts
Make a car out of this 👍that would be super coool😃
I will be doing a big powerful one soon😀
I didn't even know this engine existed lol. Awesome!
Hey there thank you very much! Makes me feel old playing with this engine again!
For such an old engine, it’s really well built! Nice video!
Hey thank you very much! It surprised me! I think the parts being together fir over 30 years helped keep it in one piece! I think they’re seized on now lol
V4 big block engine... cool
cheers Darcy! Built for durability lol
the lego version of a big-block engine
I remember when Lego engines were built like that.
Those were the days 😀
You should use those motors and gear them down, then see if they can run a lego screw/worm gearbox backwards.
Mind blowing and just full on amazing!
Hey Nick thank you so much😀
My god it was roaring like a real engine very nice
Hey cheers Nathan It was quite loud lol
Would you be able to convert the rotation into reciprocating linear motion? Like a band saw? Would be awesome to see! 😁
Hey that’s an interesting idea thank you very much 😀
Him rev the engine to high rpm
The engine decoy:Adios
😂
Awesome!! 😀👍👍
Hey Friedl cheers😀
First
I’d love to see some other Lego engines such as v6, v8 and v12 using the newer engines. Anyways great video
Hi there thank you! That would be great! The v12 in this configuration would take a few motors just to move it lol
Lubricant would allow you to get away with less torque and reducing the gear ratio by using a set of the bevel gears could work if needed. It be awesome to see a v8, v12 or other engine configurations explode at high speed. Thank you!
Just appreciate the fact that the engine was *NOT* lubricated!!!
I’d suggest you see how fast you can get a tank track to go, see how well it’s stays together
Hey there omg I’m doing that just now! It’s fascinating what happens 😀
Must have been a Japanese engine to have survived such punishment before letting go :D
😂
Ahh... its amazing
I thought for sure the whole thing was going to let go and send Lego pieces everywhere. I loved it when it matched the frame rate, very satisfying 👍
Hey Lee cheers! I was hoping it would tbh but those parts were seized together after all these years
That thing was transcending space and time
did you have this engine in storage, like in the loft in some dusty box, forgotten until now? good idea from ghost.
why don't you see how fast you can spin tracks, and test different sizes and lengths, and do different shapes and configuration of tracks
that might be fun. any way looking forward for your next vid.
Hey Fish that’s an interesting idea and thank you! There is so much drag on the drivetrain when using tracks so it would be interesting to see how fast they could spin!
I’ll definitely try this as it could be quite unique at high speed!
If I don’t get it done this year please remind me as I’m am going away soon. I’ll write it down.
This engine has been in my old vintage Lego box for 32 years, it somehow survived me building everything imaginable from the age 7-12 and was never touched until now!
I will build the car again soon
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines thanks. il differently remined you, in a month. and i thought that you mite have a
lot of drag, but it will be interesting to see the outcome of the speed. and why dont you rebuild the car and make it RC
that would be cool.
@@Fish-Finger hey I’m doing it now and it’s quite interesting what happens so thank you again! I’ll probably upload the video when I’m away! It’s helped me out as I needed something I could do quick ish to get some videos ready😀
Never thought of that with the car! I’ll take a look when I build it cheers
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines thank you for using my idea.
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines hay Gaz. you said to remind you about my idea.
I want to see cam shafts and valves!!! Great job though
Cheers Kevin, early next year I want to try this😀
So cool! Now make a air compressor with it!
Hey cheers Sam! I need to look into them!
This gave me chills
Thanks Naveed! I was just waiting for destruction lol
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines 🤣
2:19 Ye bro ma Vtec jus kicked in yo
😂😂
HAHA TOLD U HEADS WOULD FLY XDDDD and omg thanks for Mentioning me XD and tbh I thought u meant the round engine thingies- like that's WAY vintage but I was actually surprised it "only" ran 7k XD since u've hit 60k rpm already :D but that was a really enjoyable video thanks bro XD oh and as I mention 60k, hopefully you'll reach em soon bro ;)
Yo! No problem and thanks for this idea! I did have a lot of fun doing this, more than expected! I just kept revving it pretending it’s some powerful 4 banger lol
Surprisingly there was a lot of resistance at high rpm, I guess those parts weighed a bit more than they did to begin with.
I did reach 9500 with different gearing but I started to wear the heads out 😂 I couldn’t damage this though it’s like an antique haha.
interesting, the flex may absorb some of the power, the stroke is short, and the Conrod stiction through years of assembly held it together. Plus maybe the Conrods were being pushed back together nearly as much as pulled apart! awesome footage Gaz, fun to watch. My scientific/engineering streak wants to see this with glued Conrods, but the piston gripper would let go.. anyway nice video! 👍🍺🇬🇧
Hey Carl hope you’re good! I found this fascinating when filming, far more than I imagined!
Most parts seemed pretty seized together which helped in a big way.
I noticed afterwards the centre cog was actually rubbing on the axle creating those tiny little plastic strips which I thought was hair at first lol.
I did try it at higher RPM afterwards and the rods and head came off the left bank. 😀🍺
"She'll fly apart"
"Well fly her apart then!"
Wow
I love how you reply to almost all coments
*piston number 4 has left the chat*
😂
I miss how quiet old technic was
I need of one these!
Hey man that was crazy! I wonder if you could do a comparison between the vintage engine and a new one it would be interesting to see which holds up better great vid!
Hey cheers Nick, I’d have to get one and see. I guess the speeds would be insane with the new ones!
Oh man, 7000 RPM. I can totally get the feel of fear because I did ~4600 RPM on my setup with a Buwizz motor recently (upgraded Buggy motor). It's quite loud indeed)
Hey Sergey it’s fun stuff this spinning!😀 I was surprised how satisfied I felt afterwards haha.
I would love a few buggy motors to play about with 😀
Oh my God.It that much fast so we cant see it well.
7000 RPM!!!!!!
Sounds just like my old Kia Rio.
😂
Lol
That looks really cool at high speeds, almost see through
Hey there! Sorry for the late reply I’ve been under the weather. I did enjoy doing this, I was hoping it would kind of explode though!
That’s cool
Hey Haste! Cheers😀
Pretty amazing how well it held up...considering it was operating at likely 100x its originally designed speed!
I was surprised too 😀
Money shifts be like:
It sounds like a real engine almost lol
Now use it to power a lego air pump xD
I’d love to be able to do that!
That’s older than me wow and the pistons are moving so fast they look like they’re moving super slow!
Hey Chris! I was going to add this into a compilation video with your idea but I will save that for later when I’m on holiday!
That poor engine was built 32 years ago and somehow survived in my Lego box intact! I was only 5 when my brother built it! Time flies!
shit is go verry fast i think lego need to be upgrade for these
Hey crazy I thought it would self destruct lol
Is this a behind the scenes look at the Koenigsegg Jesko revving?
Haha Matt Christian won’t be happy I let his tech out!
My dad have the model with the v4 ist so nice 4 Gears and and ist the best ever
👍🏻
Its impressive that engine held up against that stress. Just curious, I've never seen something like this with duplo. How long do you thing one of those would hold up?
Goot thought actually. Idk, prob not long since Duplo is not made to hold up that well lol
Do a boxer 4cylinder it will reduce shake
What lego sets do you use for this?
7,000 rpms! That's high for a regular engine. What impresses me is how much the crankshaft was fluctuating and still held! Lol, I have to ask, did you use a lubricant on it?
I couldn’t believe it when I saw the underneath view! The middle gear was rubbing on that axle at max rpm! How on earth it stayed together!
I also have the lego technic 8865 test car :)
Oh great! This was my brothers all those years ago but it ended up in my Lego box… I’m going to rebuild it soon, looking forward to it
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines Ok, the test car is really cool and stable!
gotta go fast
poggers
Hey there! That’s a new word to me lol
Sounds wayy better than Tesla
😂😂
Could you do working lego drone pls
touch the engine
i double dare you
2:22 se convirtió en un 3 cilindros xD
Slowmo rattling bones sorry Legos. Lol
2:22 Yeet
Old lego engine decoy?
Hey yes very old(30 years old) :)
Were the cylinders any hot? Did the plastic melt?
Hi used quite a bit of oil so all was good, there was a few bits of plastic like tiny bits of string appeared though😀
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines Can you test it without any oil to get the engine smoking?😏
Add a reciprocating saw blade not a circular blade
Great idea thank you😀
Your channel is really blowing up 48k subscribers!!!!
Will it soon get to the point where you will get so much comments that you won't see them all? Should I make the best of it while you see my comments?
Hey Donnacha I’m trying lol and thank you for all your input I always appreciate it 😀
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines ☺ so close to 50k
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines You have over 1000 comments on your channel. That's a lot of typing. I like how you always reply to my comments.
@@donnachaslegocreations that’s not a problem and I will always try to! Although had the flu recently so it’s been a struggle lol
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines Try your best and that's good
Now the new engine please
Reverse the gear train see how strong you can make it and how much it can lift
Hey there I’m going to do something like this! A lifting challenge would be interesting thanks 😀
Now make a v8 👀
Sounds kinda like a ls for some reason
Hi there! I had an old LS1 c5 a few years ago! 😀 I’m not sure what’s cheaper to run this with 60 as batteries or that lol
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines price of fuel where we live I say the batteries 😂
What’s the torque?
I’d love to know the power/torque figures however lacking they are lol😀
@@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines Alright.
I'd be interested to see temperature changes when the engine is on load. Do you have infra red temp cauhe?
Hi I don’t but I’m definitely looking into this! That would be great😀
