@@daddypeet257 hardly. It’s a well known fact that these cars were uninspired in their styling (so frumpy after the stylish Xantia sales success vs Mondeo) and what’s more the electrics are poor quality and reliability overall is a bit of a joke. This is why they were a sales flop here in the UK and why Citroen worked so hard to produce the gorgeous (yet still unreliable) C5 mark 2; a bit like comparing George Clooney on a good day to dearly beloved Ken Dodd with a hangover!! 😆
Regardless of whether I know Ian or not personally, he’s a nice guy and like any other man buying one of these on a budget I’d advise him to drop it like a hot potato and buy either a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla for the same budget. Far, far superior engineering with actual integrity and yet they still cost buttons. Whatever. Variety is the spice of life, I counterbalance my superb Toyota with my 1996 Broom Yellow Cinquecento Sporting.... but at least that looks great and is fun to drive!!

Besides utter comfort (gliding instead of driving), it had the best brakes I've experienced on any car. That actually saved my and a friends life late one night when a lady decided to fully stop so she could reverse (!) to the exit she had overshot on an 80MPH road. We had a truck besides us and all I could do is brake and hope for the best. We made it with 3 metres to spare. So thank you C5 for all the adventures and comfortably safe trips.

I have the C5 III HDi 136 Auto and that has the hydractive 3+ and it is witchcraft suspension, it wofts and floats when you want it to and then becomes tight and stiffer when you need or want it to, very good system. I'm glad to say the 136hdi does have a lot of grunt to it. Citroen make the best wofty boxes

Lol I live about 2 miles from Hapsford services lol. Always had a soft spot for the C5, especially the estate versions! Great trade!

Interesting car, looking forward to seeing how you get on with it. I was expecting something comfortable and French so wasn't entirely surprised. Can see a caravan stuck to the back of it soon! Certainly more interesting and characterful than the Primera but unlikely to be as trouble free perhaps? I wish you many happy miles in your new 'old bus'!

These C5 have always been interesting french boats! Also, always thrilled when you mention ''back to Wales'! Almost always to expect beautiful scenes! I could only suggest to stop more and film the cars on that landscapes!

Welcome to the HubNut Citroën family! My Xsara temperature gauge is showing slightly lower than actual temp. Apparently common with sensor inaccuracies on the Citroëns of the era. Cheers as always from Sweden!🍻

I have a 406 with the same engine... A quick plug in and electronic tickle up improved it immensely! Approx 140hp instead and so much more torque!!

We had a 2.0hdi Picasso, over 4 years it averaged 47mpg, the best trip was a 185 mile round trip to Heathrow at an average of 57mpg. C5, very HubNut, you get a vote of approval from our house!

Yes! I guessed right! The C5 is a soft, wafty lounge chair compared to the Primera. I can't wait to see how you get on. The biggest down side is all the electronics that can go wrong. Good luck with Chloe the C5 ;-)

Delighted you bought a C5 especially an estate. You looked like you were driving from your favourite armchair. I loved my 2005 mk2 C5 hatchback. It was a 2 litre petrol automatic high spec and boy could it guzzle fuel. The fuel gauge needle would start to move downwards as I was driving out of the petrol station but I loved it.

Funnily, after your recent comments about the primera I wondered what big Citroen will he buy next? 😂😂 Looks like my Chrystal ball is working well! Good purchase, though! You look at home in that drivers seat! 👌🏻👌🏻

Few of my friends had these c5s, and one of them still uses his. 2.0HDi if maintained properly can do over 200 thousand miles easily.
2.2 HDi has 230 000 and still drives very nice.
