Just bought this knife for using everyday use. I made sure all the screws were tightened and kinda like the thickness, but I love my microtech ultratech. I had to send it in for maintenance after 4 years of carring
I've had mine since 2018, sofare my only problem has been that the screw that holds the main switch on backed out so the blade got stuck halfway out but was an easy fix opend it up put some locktight on the screw never had a problem again, also took the stupid glass breaker off while i had it apart
I have the older grey one so I don’t have the nice looking double ended but the single edge is great I carry it for daily use and defense it’s got a nice bulk to it and feels like a quality knife I paid 50 for it at academy and saw it was made in 8/20 which was cool to see and the sound when the blade locks is great I’ve been happy with mine since and carry it with a small sense of pride knowing I saw this video about it and having a knife that’s better then those gas station ones too many times have those broken on me when I needed them
"S&W knives are junk." What? I have about four S&W knives and just purchased the OTF 9B. None of the other S&W knives I have are "junk." They are all durable, reliable and well made. I'll be carrying the OTF as my EDC knife. Of course, my opinion on S&W knives are just that, my opinion.
No he's right, almost everything that is Chinese or Taiwanese made products are disposable crap.. Hell even the writing on the POS turd is all blurry, so how can you say that is quality and is typical inconsistent garbage 💩
I'm not a big fan of modern S&W firearms, but they are generally well made. I've found their knives to be similar; reasonable cost, functional and reliable.
@@aculalup I just bought one with a single edge blade, and it's pretty darned sharp. I wouldn't want to shave with it, but I got it to supplement a concealed pistol or to carry when I have to go someplace where firearms are not legal to carry. When I go to the VA clinic, though, I can't have either a gun or a knife, so there's that. I also have a Boker Strike Plus, which is thinner, lighter, and has a longer pocket clip, but it's not OTF. I think this single action OTF might hold up better than an inexpensive double action OTF. Plus when I carry a concealed handgun, it's a Smith & Wesson.
The reason I am looking at your review is that I got a text message from bladeops saying that this was on sale. The fact that you correctly identified virtually all Smith & Wesson knives were junk made me think highly of the veracity of your review. There are several other inexpensive OTFs out there so I will need to decide. Thank you so much for this review.
60 bucks for mine...was kinda stiff. Squirted some Smith and Wesson rem oil down all the openings. Down the slide. Oil down Anything that breathed. Shook it around. Open and closed for 15 minutes. Paper towel wipe down. Sturdy. Pocket ready. Solid. 60 bucks.
I just finished retro fitting a MICROTECH TROODAN DAMASCUS double edge blade into a 2021 Smith& Wesson M&P OTF single action, just like the one in the video, I had previously contacted Smith& Wesson manufacturing, and I told them about my FRANKENSTEIN, and they were VERY INTERESTED!!

I had already contacted SMITH&WESSON MANUFACTURING, tryin to get some type of diagram,exploded view, something, they said NOPE, not available. Now they are interested in the knife AND the holster. I said NOPE, not a available but, I am gonna send them SOMETHING to prove I did it.

BESIDES, WHATS THE HARM, you would be surprised, how many KNIFE NUTS like myself, thought it was far-out. Why all the hostility?! Greater GOODS have been created with LESS.
Gotta disagree on S&W folders that aren't this OTF. I've got three of those folders, all made with 8CR13 (a solid budget steel) and each has a rock solid lockup with zero play.
Personally I don't mind the single action aspect of the knife but I don't like the safety. This is going to be used primarily by people who are concerned about self defense and that safety means trouble in the worst time. Yeah you could disengage but it can accidentally engage or you could forget the position. Safeties in knives are as bad as safety in firearms.
Pretty sure the safety is only for when not engaged and when in pocket, it already locks when you engage it you don't need to use the safety you can but you don't need to it locks when out but I like knowing when it's in my pocket it can't engage when the safety is on, yeah I know even if it comes out when it pocket it won't really come out far enough to do damage but still I mean the safety gives some extra comfort it's not being a pussy if that's youre concern
They buy it because of the price of an otf that is why it is popular and it is made very well for what it is its tge absolute best value for quality out there
Just ordered this, it’s really for work though. Too many times I’m in a situation where I need a third arm, it’s only for convenience. Hopefully the blade is quality.
I have the older dark grey one and I’ve been having it for a daily knife it works amazing and I love the quality of it it’s got a certain bulk to it that feels good in your hands and the edge is super sharp

I’m most impressed by the complete lack of wiggle in the blade, for forty some dollars it’s very well built.
Sounds like perhaps, I should do a video on disassembley and assembly of this thing, I had to take it apart so many times to fit that blade, and fabricate a couple of small items, I can do it in my sleep!! I guess if I get enough requests, I could force myself through it, I'm camera shy, even if it's MINE.
They made both double and single edged versions, just depends on what you bought at the time. Carry in California at your own peril, this "assisted" Knife functions the same as a single action automatic.
I paid a little over $50 from GrindWorx. Will worth it. I'm right-handed. This is single action. It has to be reset manually with the lever. I grounded the lever down so it does not hit my thumb as it deploys the blade. I sharpened mine to a razor's edge. I stabbed this knife 3x's into a metal jar lid & also 3x's into wood very hard! It did not de-rail & manually re-setting makes it a very strong knife when deployed. Of course practice deploying in a made up high stress situations. A knife you can depend on.

That retraction device should not be there! If I were left handed, or needed to open in my non- dominant hand, the blade may not deploy. The version I bought has a faux edge on one side. You described it well. This knife is garbage.
I’m just spoiled I guess. My double action Benchmade Mini Infidel is great. Forgive me for hating on a single action OTF. However, with the price of my Mini Infidel, not only should it be double action it should take me to dinner.
I was gonna say, for the price of those.....it should open by itself when you need it. Taking what I just said into account, it's also #1 on my list for the knife I want.
Why would you measure the thinnest it goes against logic… if for example I needed measurements so that I knew I’d it would fit thru a slot… I would tempt to get the thickest portion of the knife bc the thinnest tells me nothing about whether I can fit it thru said slot…other than that cool vid cool knife

Never understood why someone would get a single action over a double action. The only reason i would see would be if your not allowed to have a double action
DA more blade wiggle, not as versatile-jams with dirt or sand, more parts to go wrong, jimp opening and closing. SA has a full strong opening spring-you can get sand in them and they'll still open. Stronger lock up.

On why I bought it, There's a few reasons. R1: I wanted an OTF for work. I often work in tight spaces, folding knifes don't really work well in those spaces, OTF if perfect. R2: Mtech is trash. R3: I wanted an AUS-8 blade but I didn't want to spend over $100 for a work knife. (Would kill for a VG10 but, good luck for under $100. Daggerr knives makes one for $155, maybe once this one breaks.) R4: Sheels warrantee's these in-house.
For the price of this otf knife, i have no complaints, it does its job and its durable, a bare bones functional otf for under 100$. You cant complain
All of the other AUS-8-A blade OTF's I've found are over $100. The M&P is unique in it's price point.

Mine was made 9/23 and isn’t double edged but has a notch for your thumb to place on blade

If I have a problem with releasing the blade is there something I can do to fix it?
put the blade out, and use a torx bit to take it apart. it is really a simple action inside. you can probably clean it out.

I accidentally fired the single edge version through the double stich of carharts and pretty far into my leg. I didn't know it was spring fired.

Its 440b steel, good enough for most utilitarian needs, i've had one , honestly its a solid bare bones otf knife, for the price, i have no complaints.

Double action autos automatically retract. This is a single action auto. You must retract it yourself every time.

No, it might poke hole in a water bottle, but not even a big one. None of the springs in these OTFs are that strong.
