It's been a while | Modular Mayhem with Colin Benders

- It's been over one and a half years ago since I last did a Modular Mayhem... Time to catch up! We'll do some patching, geek out over some eurorack modules, talk about what took me so long and hopefully we'll record a bunch of new music!
_________________________________
Sole but far-from-lonely emperor of a monster 243-module rack, genre-unbound sound explorer, modular mad scientist to the bone, call him whatever you like it’s a fact: Dutch wave-tumbler Colin Benders defies the conventions of so easily tag-slapped electronics as much as his music confronts gravity itself. Untamed and unshackled from today’s main line of tepid production behaviourism, striving in an artistic lane truly his own, Benders has completely veered off the grand street's accepted modus operandi to operate his gear and imagination in utterly innovative fashion.
Having garnered a more than solid experience of the first-hand musician-to-listener experience, Benders keeps on cutting new trails for live electronics, away from drowsy standards and mimetic attitudes. Instead, the Dutch performer pledges to rethink our whole consumption and digestive process of music through lengthy, free-jazz-like momentums to lose your mind and body to. The knowledge and time spent perfecting his craft both apart and before his online audience shines through these patched-up symphonies of boisterous sine-waves, all-engulfing lo-end swells and hair-raising crescendos that have already conquered the likes of Dekmantel, Awakenings, ADE and Berghain.

That was the most avant garde stream opening I have ever done lol
(Sry about that 😂❤)
Don't worry about getting stuck in a Mobius loop... It happens to the best of us... best of us...best of us...
Glad you are feeling much better now and congrats on tying the knot! 🎉
P. S. The amp wasn't 'Ampy' enough... Again... 600wpc not enough!... NEED MORE!
I think you are producing transients that weren't included in the design brief 🤣
Giving Negativland a run for their money.
Was kinda hilariously awesome 😂
No apologies! It was rad
I thought it was great had me laughing out loud

Welcome back! I was starting to enjoy the looping once there was enough layers. Happy accidents!
I didnt realize how much I missed these livestreams. Even though I am only checking it out afterwards, it is great to have in the background while working. Love the slow build-ups and the on-the-fly patching.
WONDER-FULL!
Glad to see you back in action, I've been missing your streams SO MUCH, Colin!
Hope u've fully recovered and wish you all the best; congratulations on your marriage =)
found you from Reddit and you fixing your shit live... whatever was playing was hard
Watching this now the day after. I just pressed the bell, this is litteraly the first time ever in UA-cam history I've pressed the bell. I want to catch the nex livestream live. This is fantastic!!!
Good to see you back at these
So pumped to have you back! I've been toying with the idea of breaking up my monster setup into separate cases, and perhaps *gasp* sampling them and composing elsewhere. Seeing this stream has rekindled the fire in me to continue to wrestle the big beast and keep everything in the modular :)
Analog is the way :D
@@TheFlatzz *_Modular_ is the way 😉 - a healthy portion of this monster is either digital/DSP-based, or digital+analog hybrid modules (and for the betterment of creative possibility!)
Out of this world... Colin is a legend... Thanks!
happy you are back and up well, since you last stream i got now my own modular, ty for this inspiration! cheers from frankfurt
woah dude, had no idea your illness you suffered was so hectic, glad to see your still with us brother!

Awesome. You make it look so much fun. Your talent with gear and music definitely comes through. Thanks for sharing your art!
the loop in the begining was magical to me, almost rithmic
(being high might influence my perception of it) but naaa shiii was epic
1:53:00 and on is 🤤😍❤🔥 its soooo good to see you doing this again Colin!
What a dedication I had so much goosebumps.
I've never seen a rack laid out so much like it's an orchestra in front of a conductor.
Even on YT the sound is great !
Yes! I love these.

Captain to engineering Scotty WTF are you doing we've lost power.
Boss tuner, boss!
Welkom terug Colin.
❤
Digitone challenge accepted. 😂
Hey Colin, that is amazing. How much would it cost me to build a system like that?
he has it on modulargrid i think. should be somewhere around 70k for the modules i guess ^^
What is triggering those tone swells around 24 min and forward? Sounds awesome..
everything is being sequenced using my ER-101. the dynamics (swells etc) are done manually by opening and closing filters at will.
@@ColinBenders Thanks, that sounds like an interesting Sequencer!
It seems to me that most clock based modules are in sync... without dozens of cables. This is quite nice. Anyone have a tip on how that is achieved?
mults! they are your friend.
designate one source as your master clock, then send its output to a mult. take lines from that mult to each and every clock input you desire to be in sync. you can then also do the same with a master reset output which you mult into every reset input to get everything to lock and loop at the same time.
@@ColinBenders thanks and 100 % true! But it looks like many of the modules are in sync without any front panel clock connection? Or am I mistaken?
@@ColinBenders Okay I think I was wrong. Thought modules like the top Metropolis were in sync, but it is not on second look. Was hoping to learn some missed magic way of clocking some modules. :P
What type of speakers and amps do you use?
B. O. M. B.
What is the album on top of the piano with the red guy with yellow eyes?
Jameszoo - Blind
Is it really a stream if the amp holds up? 😂😂😂
2:31:00 daaaaaamn
Why drop it when you can just wonk it? 😂
2:33:30 I'm sure the meme masters are hard at work on this one!
So glqd to see - and first of all hear - you back, Colin . Missed you modular mayhem❤👍
32:00 really like the so moogish vibe of of the AJH modules
Schneiders announced the delivery of my Macbeth MK2 today - after nearly 3 years of waiting. The filter seems to take more time. Guess you will get some information too. Cheers.
Just got my confirmation as well!! So excited
2:51:00
Take care of yourself first Colin.
Still feedback loopoopoooing LOL 😂.
Buy more vca's
Hopefully not a vaccine injury
look i hate to be debbie downer 'cause I don't know you, but why is there a "thin blue line" in your logo❓...and do you realize what that _at-a-glance_ signifies to the U.S. audience❔
Ha. You’re not the first person asking me about the “thin blue line” in this logo so I guess there is some unintended associations with the logo design. To clarify, this design is for my latest track release called “Prignalia”, which sounds blue to me. Didn’t think much else of it. I don’t live in the US so I did not make that connection when I ok’d the design. I’ll speak to my designer and see if we can come up with a solution, this association is not my intention so if it keeps popping up it might warrant a change.
@@ColinBenders that's cool, thanks for considering 😃
What does “at a glance” signify? I’m Canadian but in USA for a long time and to me it means “first impression, not looking too closely”.
@@schwajj yes it's basically "first impression" like you say. My intent in using the phrase was that it didn't take much more than a first glance for it to appear like someone was trying to make a 'thin blue line' statement with the logo.
@@lafemmedevastation Apologies, I was confused about why you were using that phrase (not even worth explaining my confusion). Regarding the thin blue line, my opinion is that there is some enculturated hypersensitivity going on. When I see an American flag or a Punisher logo with a blue stripe, obviously I know what’s going on. But I think it’s going a bit too far when any random thin blue line is pattern-matched and assumed to refer to that concept. For me personally, this particular thin blue line didn’t jump out “at a glance” as an instance of crypto pro-police sentiment, not at all. I think it would be better for people to exercise some discernment and not jump to conclusions, rather than reinforce a culture where we’re spending our attention on self-censorship to not get cancelled.
This is a general comment BTW, I don’t know your personal feelings on the matter (I’m not accusing you of jumping to a conclusion), only that you politely took the time to inform Colin of its possible interpretation.
