Good lord these guys are just rad! The energy and enthusiasm is just infectious. It's not the kind of music you can break down as being revolutionary or anything but it just makes you happy! Anything more and you're reading too much into it.
First heard Toy Dolls at school and my first band covered Nellie the Elephant. Many years later I am still waking up in lockdown listening to the Toy Dolls. Also Olga and the drummer from Goldfinger, the guitarist from the Fairmounts and a few others’ have just covered Ever Fallen in Love with Olga and it’s an instant classic.
When their 1st album came out I got it for a Xmas present in 1983 played it constantly I loved them they were a band that was impossible to see live cos they only played concerts here and there I finally saw them live in Glasgow a few years ago I was in my 50s at the time a great concert jumping about mad fans came from the north of Scotland and other fans from northern England the guy that was the support act was TV smith
Punk is more of an attitude than a musical style. Punk was never meant to be something specific but rather artistic expression that moves away from what's expected (i.e. mainstream) so yeah these guys are punk all the way.
I would say the first thing Punk was was NOT lineal break down of whatever....especially Punk. In fact. Punk was because the great old brit tribe leadership had moved their factories to other countries and there were no jobs, and they made sure no one got any hope but the dole and a life of not quite starving enough to have a revolution.........when they figured it out, and wanted to get rid of the idiots, the idiots got a plan.....it is actually described in one of the documentaries about Diana Spencer.......to get a big fairy tail wedding and get everyone all het up about the royals again so they would not get rid of them and leave old lizzie and her son chuckle to open a tea shop and live off their glory day memories by high pricing tourists...
actually punk came from England where it made sense to stand against the man......we do not have a man here in the USA, we try hard to have someone to blame, but if we do not do what Benjamin Franklin told us to do, which is protect our rights, it is our own fault if we end up in a mess. I am not trying to make anything anything.....I just say what is on my mind and at 71 remember telling my sons that their punk bands were fun and popular, but I was a bit sick of the poor us against the machine. one of my closest friends was also in a punk band, his favorites were Boys Don't Cry and Wooly Bully, that fabulous favorite punk club dance tune here in LA. @mychoupette 26
@@jst4horses1 half true but yeaa i don't think it matters where it began.. its a state of mind and the fact it manifested as a culture and gave a voice to a generation and still does is all that counts 🤘😛
One of only two punk groups I really liked, the other being The Stranglers. I was always more into metal, but I have a real soft spot for the Toy Dolls.
I was 8 and was lucky enough to have fred sing nellie the elephant to me at my cousins engagement party as she got engaged to his brother. I believe Fred is still writing music.
More like Ivor Biggun. How did I miss these guys? I'm only discovering them tonight and I search out comedy music. Obviously not very well. These guys are 12 albums in plus. Anyway, great stuff. Glad I'm here.
Used to listen to these as a kid (mid 90s) cos my dad had couple CD’s lying around. Enjoyed finding this on here. Trevor ‘the frog’ who was a member of this band at some point is good pal of my dads
I saw them with Fear and The Adolescents. Olga for the encore came out with his legs wrapped around the bass players neck upside down. It was incredible!
Love how I found this band by asking Google "Punk band with catchy songs of James bond, an elephant, and a slag, with anorexic vocalist" Google did not fail me with that search result. xD
Oh I miss these boys... and goodness, they WERE boys when they made this video. Cheers to Olga & Mel wherever you are, I'll never forget meeting you 22 years ago (or thereabouts) in Santa Monica.
Insanity is everywhere, It's a pity it's everywhere we go... We're mad John, Sirens are wailing everywhere, Wars underway... Down comes a bomb From the sky to the ground, The score's two one It's the enemy's round, But we'll all be dead Coz the whole world's gone... HELLBOUND!!! We're Mad...! ca ca ca crazee, We're Mad...! la la la looneys too, We're Mad...! ca ca ca crazee, Ca ca ca crazee now... Lookout! Ten thousand soldiers everywhere, Guns on their shoulders Everywhere they go... They're mad John! Always a battle everywhere, Madness again Hey! The wives back home looking after baby, Cry when they see that on the T.V. Their love's been shot, But tonight they made, HISTORY!!! We're Mad...! ca ca ca crazee, We're Mad...! la la la looneys too, We're Mad...! ca ca ca crazee, Ca ca ca crazee now... Lookout! We are mad it's clear again, That it will always be the same, It's a fact but really is a shame, That we're Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad.............!!!
fucking brilliant when I saw them in Cambridge back in the 80s, there was a casual band on before them and people bopping about to them then the toy dolls came on and the casuals got well out of the way as us punks went nuts my mate grabbed my leather to pogo with me and ripped the fucking thing wide open hahaha haha
@poppy757 I think it is a parody of Antmusic by Adam and the Ants, which came out a few years earlier in 1980. Not only are the Toy Dolls using at least two drummers, but they are wearing staindrop cavalry jackets, as did Adam Ant. Gary Glitter also used two drums. So does traditional Japanese festival music. I would like to hear more.
+QCgamer101 THe other day I was driving and I read a text message on my phone (I know, shame on me; it's illegal in the US, and just plain dumb) but anyways, I read this HILARIOUS text message from my brother and started BUSTING UP LAUGHING SO HARD while BLASSSSTING this song, and I was alone. I must have seriously looked fucking mad! And not angry mad, I mean insane! WE'RE INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@TerryKosick OLGA is a Durham Lad and the greatest .. Sting, ACDC, Lindisfarne .. do not come close to this genius,, what a guitar player ... so underrated !!
The Toy Dolls were my saviors in my teenage years, and the only band who can still make me smile in 2020. Happy 40th boys.😊💗
Good lord these guys are just rad! The energy and enthusiasm is just infectious. It's not the kind of music you can break down as being revolutionary or anything but it just makes you happy! Anything more and you're reading too much into it.
They are just so VERY British!

Well stated.
