In 50 years of woodworking, I found that I NEVER had enough clamps...no matter how many I had!! Keep up the good work!!

there's points in this build where Ran III looks like a piece of abstract art. I love the look right now as the keel grid comes together!

So impressive how you’re not only building this boat you’ve milled almost every piece that’s gone into it. Your house and garden also look splendid and will continue to see improvements. This is all wonderful stuff and I’m thrilled for you, but from a purely selfish point of view it’s clear you’ll never go back to sailing and exploring full time. And that’s ok, it’s just life, I’ll miss watching your past life style. In the meantime I enjoy the boat build.

Your video transports the emotions of excitement about the progress in building your dream boat on one hand and the love for your house on the other hand perfectly.

You are making good progress on two fronts. The boat work is advancing along with the work on the house. Both are looking great, with the house looking delightful. Long may you call it home, and long may you build happy memories.

Nice music choice in this episode.
It’s amazing to watch how you really accomplish hard work and the result on first sight doesn’t seem that big.
But you two just persist and keep going. Slowly but surely you are getting to the more interesting parts of ship building.
    Great!

Good times will come and go. But in the end, you will most surely get it done. Besides, you've gotta do something while you're alive - so you might as well build a boat!

  • @robw2379

Lots of good work. I would encourage you to get your limber holes in now, oversize them, and then make sure they are sealed with epoxy, or better yet a piece of plastic pipe cut in half lengthwise. A piece of pvc or cpvc pipe, about 30mm in diameter, cut in half would give you a 15mm x 30mm limber hole which will be less likely to get plugged up, and is also large enough to get a tool into if you need to clean it out.

In wet climates on old walls a breathable lime plaster rendering is better as it allows the bricks to breath and with more organic building materials its vital. Hemp Crete, Cob, straw bale or wattle and daube.
The lime also deters rot insects and vermin.

Carpenters work to 1/16" or 1/32" for experts, engineers working with lasers deal in microns or less. (1/32" =793 microns) I love that the engineer (yes you said owner, but he is an engineer with that comment) is involved in your project and I would definitely use this laser if I needed one because the company cares.

Clamps FYI - it is possible to make 2 beams using 1 set of clamps. Glue up the beams back to back and use one clamp for each offset as long as the offsets are not to much different in the lengths of the section. By making the beams using sections of the plank you are making a glulam beam which is structually much stronger than the single plank of wood that the beams are made of.

Laminating doesn't just make it more economical, when done properly, laminations are also stronger, less susceptible to warping and water ingress. All benifits!

Let air circulate under your Whisky barrel Marle it will stop the bottom from rotting out three or 5pieces of flat tile will do ...and leaving a flat surface in front of the barrel under the tap will mean you dont have to hold a bucket under it for a fill. 😖 😉🧙🏼‍♂️

There's is a formula... estimate how many clamps you'll need to build a boat and then triple that number, another method is to drive to the clamp store and buy all the clamps
