    Wow...I'm an unagi freak. Soooo good. This just got bookmarked so I can see if I can get in there! I don't know how you guys find these places but thank you! When done well unagi is probably one of the best dishes on the planet (at least for me!). Hitsumabushi....mmmmmm. Thanks this was a great video...I've really only done Todaiji when I've gone to Nara. Kasuga Taisha looks amazing, love the way Shinto integrates itself into nature. So beautiful.

    What a coincidence! I was in Nara this morning! Unfortunately, Kasuga Taisha was closed for a ceremony.
    I also visited Isuien on one of my earlier trips and got a foreigners' discount then. Sadly, it's now ¥1,200 an adult for all and that's a bit steep for a garden, so i gave it a miss this time around.
    Get in early (i arrived at 7.30am) and you will have an hour or so of serenity before the hordes arrive.

    FYI - the average day here is absolutely jam packed with crowds of people. And it's not uncommon to see rude Chinese tourists literally putting the deer in headlocks to get selfies. Nara used to be a beautiful place to visit but you really need to have a lot of patience for the fools that ruin your day.

      Unfortunatly thats happening on more places in Japan

      @@edojapantravelI agree. It happened to me in Tokyo University and in Oshino Hakkai. I was taking pictures and 2 Chinese tourists told me to step aside so that they can take selfies.

      Thank you for saying this; the footage here makes it seem like it's a serene place, but it's sadly immensely overcrowded. Exactly like other "must-sees" (like the Colosseum, Chichen Itza or the Taj Mahal) it's inherently very beautiful and worthwhile, but the experience really isn't great anymore because of over-tourism. I myself would even consider skipping those huge tourist destinations completely and looking for similar sites in the area that might be a little less impressive, but far more calming to visit. There are other wonderful temple complexes in the Nara area that are well worth a visit too, and where you won't (literally) have to wait in line to take a picture. Going early helps, but imo it's not worth it.

      I went to Nara in 2019, and the Nara deer park was a great experience. There were a good amount of people, but definitely not overcrowded. It might also depend on the day and time that you go. Try to hit touristy areas early in the day and not on weekends. The deer park was one of the most memorable stops on our whole 2 week stay in Japan. I definitely recommend visiting.

    So i ,am back now from Japan and sade enough i missed Nara but when i see this than i ask myself is it worth it to go back from Europe, fly 14 hours and take a visite to Nara ?? stay there from monday till friday or is this grazy ???

    • @katelijnesommen
      @katelijnesommen 2 місяці тому +2

      That's crazy, yes. You will only be barely recovered from the jet lag when you have to go back home. Nara is lovely but it's incredibly overcrowded. It's something to come back to if you make it back to Japan for a bigger trip, not something to come back for specifically, especially if you're flying so far.
