- As the number of young people identifying as transgender or gender-diverse increases each year, some are now coming forward with stories of regret and caution after they feel they transitioned at too young an age. One of those people is Luka, a 20-year-old who began medically transitioning at 16 and got a double mastectomy. Luka has opted to detransition, saying that after growing up and maturing, there was an “oh shoot moment” about the ability to have biological children.

@@shmittyfloors4870 Not what I got out of it. I heard more exploring of the children is important without rushing to judgment just because of statistics. Every child is different so they need to be allowed to express their feelings and given time to explore and mature.

Is he really reporting on this? Look back at his opening...he declared it wasn't going to be about the process of how children are encouraged to transition...and how he makes it clear that it's not about "everybody"...he's not reporting on this transition...he's doing damage control using Luka to warn against declaring that transitioning is dangerous and destructive.

Around 2.5% detransition. That's still a lot of people that should get help if they choose to go through with detransitioning. Though the majority of people that transition end up being happier after.

I'm older and I don't totally understand a lot about this stuff, but I'm wise enough to realize that it's a much different world than I grew up in, so I'm usually better off keeping my mouth shut. But in this case, I do feel bad for these young ladies, and I hope they find themselves again, and I hope they live a fulfilled life, even with the changes they've been through.

Yeah, this is NOT an issue to stay silent on - there are too many vulnerable people at risk here to not speak out, because the gender identity ideologues seem to want to label as many people as 'trans' as possible, and they're capturing people who aren't trans at all, and messing them up mentally.

this is SO important. as an autistic woman theres no saying i wouldnt have even gotten wrapped up into this ideology young and even went down the medical intervention route myself particularly middle and high school you're so susceptible to things like that when you are dealing with so many horrible insecurities and coming to terms with the fact as a young woman my gender means i have to accept to a degree that when in public certain men will eyerape you, harass you, etc. i think these fears are a big part of why so many women autistic and otherwise are tricking themselves into thinking this is their answer. it's sad and worrying as the medical interventions get pushed younger and younger. dont get me wrong trans people exist and are beautiful and deserve help but we must not rush to medical intervention before even the brain is fully developed, thats almost medical negligence
Kind of makes you wonder how many go through this and say nothing.. my heart goes out to every single one. It's a hard enough Road without a bunch of 'professionals' railroading these young people into the accepted cookie cutter idea of what must be done.
There's a lot unfortunately. Gender clinics don't track them once they leave, so they don't know how many detransition. And the studies into detrans people are very lacking and biased. The biggest study to date was run by two researchers, one non0binary and one trans, who had made very biased statements. A lot of the online detrans communities actually ended up boycotting the study. So I guess now they can say that there barely are any...

This is so bitter/sweet. We all make choices in life some good some bad. Learning from our regrettable choices is an awesome thing if it helps someone else. I thank these ladies for their courage and transparency. May your life continue to bless others.
But also the problem is she was a child it wasn’t fully her decision it was also her parents decision and in her case in Lucas case she had parents who were pushed to think that this need to be done now at the age she was that she didn’t have consent because she was too young she was an adult and that’s the problem they’re rushing parents to push this on the kids when maybe they should get therapy and if it 18 this shit receive even 16 if they still feel like this yes but even 16 I think it’s too young and then there’s the parents of four and five year olds who oh my son play with make up you must be a girl not a boy my son play with make up when he was little and guess what is the biggest ladies man I’ve ever met
No child can know for sure they won't change their identity later in life or regret physical intervention, therefore, no child should be allowed to transition. That simple.

Should wait until your 18+ and out of high school to make such an irreversible transition. I get that their kids that genuinely grow up and are trans, but their also kids that are easily influenced into thinking they are. Only deeply to regret and deal with the mental health & physical damage issues of that.
This is because the conversation has switched where if you don’t fully adhere to gender stereotypes (ex:boys & girls toys) that means your 100% gay (which isn’t factually correct) to being 100% trans. Then you have subset of doctors that see it as opportunity to make bank.

Some have far more profound issues and it isn't that simple, before 18. Sometimes at 13yo. There are weird & unique situations that you wouldn't imagine until you've met and talked with some of these individuals.
18 isn’t old enough in my opinion, especially when you consider the brain isn’t fully developed until age 25. Also, we need to remember that the trans industry’s primary customers are young people on the autism spectrum, and they often mature ( emotionally) much later than kids without autism. It’s an absolute medical scandal on a scale we’ve never seen.
@@savethetomboys815 The part of the brain that continues developing between 18-25 is not the part that helps you be aware that your are male, female, or attracted to males or females. That part of the brain develops far earlier and is not in the frontal cortex, which is the part that further develops in that late adolescent stage you are stating. What age were you when you realized you were physically attracted to males or females? It wasn't 25. THere isn't that much money in this. Most of these patients and families are not wealthy. The wealthy ones get the treatment even if its illegal because they have the means. You are being overly melodramatic and sensational.
I think it has alot to do with self confidence and not giving in to the Queer Extremist Agenda. I'm a moderate, and I really dont " identify" with all of their crazy thinking. Alot of those people will bash Gay Conservatives if they dont agree with them.

Yes she got a mastectomy (breast removed) and probably stopped testosterone treatment so she’s back to being more feminine again. She did not have bottom surgery so she still has female genital characteristics

I almost stopped watching newsnation when they hired you and then I realized, no I won’t stop watching cuz I didn’t want to be like you were on CNN. So thanks for covering this. Thank you for reporting on more than narratives. This is so needed & they need support. The protection of trans kids is only going one way. Many are wanting & needing to de transition and are entirely chastised by community & alone. This is actual journalism / reporting, by covering actual news as it’s occurring around our days & world without forcing it to go a certain way.
0K i'm an older lady. But growing up in the 70's a hell of a lot of my friends and myself wanted to "be a boy" we wanted to do things that were consider boy things. I never played with dolls, hated dresses, wanted to be one of the boys....guess what!!! drum roll please...we were tom boys. We were allowed to express ourselves, and once we hit mid teens we all very much females. Some still preferred what was typically masculine type of interests but no one was put on blockers, had surgery, or needed any interventions of any sort. Thank god we didn't have people pushing this dangerouse agenda on use. God help youngsters today.

We also need to look at the fact that kids as young as five or six years older getting pushed into transitioning and gender affirming care and blockers and all this stuff they’re prepping these young kids so they can start them at a certain age that usually around nine based on oh my son played with make up he must be a girl my daughter played with a couple of trucks so she must be a boy or the parents in some situation to see that and maybe they didn’t get the gender maybe they wanted and this is a way to get it when they’re a child they don’t have a choice in the matter their parents have a choice I know so many transgender men and women who regret their decision because it’s pushed on you because of the political climate around it doctors are afraid to say no because they could lose their license
No one 'pushes.' You described "tomboy" and "effeminate" and neither of those = transgender to anyone in a gender transitioning clinic. No one loses their license for saying "no".
A lot of these young people R influenced by social media. This Trans issue has escalated exponentially since the start of social media. There's a problem when 7 year old Johnny tells his parents he wants 2 B a girl... and they ( his parents), rush him 2 the nearest "TRANS" psychologist, then 2 the department store 4 girl's clothes, then over 2 the school 2 tell the administrators "Johnny is now 'Janey.' Let him pee in the girl's room and play on girl' sports teams; then 2 the medical doctor 2 inquire about when hormone shots should begin, etc. They're ( the "children"), not old enough 2 make those decisions. They're not old enough at 12 or 13 or 14. Why?? Because the mind and body R experiencing dramatic changes. This girl in the interview stated she changed her mind when she "matured" ( if it's true).

I remember trying to decide my correer, all the research done in Grade 9. Picking my options for high school. I've literally changed my correer, further education many times because of circumstances. I've adapted, changed my spiritual beliefs, husbands, how I dress. I even personally changed my attitude on things. Worked at phyical health and growth changes. I'd even get plastic surgery to look better if I had the money. I lost who I was a few times, had to find myself again rather than what others wanted me to be. It's a life's journey, so I hope we allow each other to find our own ways rather than push for permanent physical changes so young. And that each of us has a unique journey that reaches full potentials.

I appreciate that their are people within the transgender community who still see themselves as individuals and not just a part a of cog in a machine of change they would like everyone to buy into. I find it a little hard to believe that a medical professional would say “this kid is suicidal” without some sort of idea coming from the kid. I don’t agree with medical transitioning of children but I find it hard to believe that a doctor would just make that up.
My kid saw this, think Luca looks “hot” and uses it as an example of why they want to transition. That’s why teens can’t make lifelong decisions at age 16.

While every individual's experience is valid and worth listening to, it worth also taking a bigger picture look to acknowledge that the rate of regret for transition medical care is very low among adolescents who showed sustained gender incongruence over time, as established through comprehensive and iterative assessment.

no child should ever be allowed to make decisions that are this adult in nature. no child under the age of 21 should be allowed to transition. this is ridiculous, any psychiatrist can tell you the mind isn't completely fully gown until the age of 25, plus these children should be taught there are some things in this world that you are not supposed to change. you are conceived either male or female period
