We are watching whether we can continually become smarter but not whether we can continually become wiser. Intellect does not automatically equate to wisdom. The 20th century proves that.
I think how our intelligence growth is measured needs to be addressed. In some ways intelligence has increased... the issue is, does increased intelligence align with the economic systems (which seems generally archaic)? For me, there is very little alignment... that's why pollution, waste, climate challenges etc...are happening, while we are now looking seriously at sustainability and renewables.
Evidence doesn't support that claim. Also, some people are more verbal and some aren't. Some are good at spatial reasoning which is correlated with Maths sciences and even chess. Some are savant-like ability in one thing and fail at other things. All of us are unique and have different talents and intelligence. I agree with the 2nd statement though, we should use our intelligence properly. I believe in HUMAN POTENTIAL!!
I think humans are becoming smarter because modern technology is showing us new things in the world. Human brains are improved by being responsive to different kinds of events.
I'm just glad that in a world that planet earth is, you can associate the human westworld beings with the word 'thought' as it would be fine to try and compare a human mind with an ant as it would not be offensive to an ant at all!
what if we can increase human intelligence using video game consoles the idea of learning from computers in my theory is that some people can't learn from computers based on the operating system if they do not know how to operate a computer how can they learn from it gaming consoles doesn't require operational knowledge you just plug it into the wall grab the controller put in a disk and it just works out of the box all curriculum can be oversimplified using video game systems because they do not require knowledge to operate them or start a game it's just simple to insert a disk and have the game start automatically but what if we can teach people calculus or trigonometry, history etc. if we can make games based on for example grand theft auto or call of duty we can make games to improve children's report cards
It is extremely unlikely that we are any more intelligent than we were 1000 years ago. This depends of course on how we define intelligence? What is a genius? Across the spectrum of human society some are born with more intelligence than others. This provides us with the ability to connect more dots than others. This is a cold hard truth that the human ego tends to have difficulty in processing. What has progressed us? Only science. Science is built upon the objective truth of mathematics. We cannot learn anything without first being curious. It is the fuel that gets us thinking. Very large egos will often conclude that they know everything. If this was true then science would stop advancing instantly. If our educations are diverse then we are provided with more dots to connect. We cannot know what we don't know. There was a time when the world was once flat.. and then it was not. Our first impressions are usually arrived at instantly but are only based on our current level of education and life experience. The thing of it is is that even a genius is no immune from their own human nature. It takes a very long time for evolution to increase an animals intelligence. Dog breeders already know this. A dogs life is usually about 15 years long. Intelligence cannot be bread into a dog over just 10 generations. 10 generations of humans about 500 years. The changes of our skin pigment will occur much faster. With no disparagement meant to a plumber but plumbers can be geniuses as well. Some are just genius's that are perfectly happy to be plumbers. Geniuses just expose themselves as geniuses because they have chosen to pursue a career in academia. Geniuses also tend to know that they don't know everything. They , just like the rest of us.. are trying to figure out what in the hell is going on on. Perhaps one of the first philosophical sayings in human history came from a caveman when he or she stated.. "Never sniff the ass of lion.. it might fart". Never underestimate the capabilities of human ingenuity. The truth can only live in reality but if one wants to find it they first must be curious. They must also be highly objective. It must first be recognized that the truth in a matter doesn't care how we feel about it and more often than not it can live in the gray. Consider this an approach to thinking which is a choice. A consensus is not a proof of a thing if their is no truth in it. There is a reason why Thomas Jefferson wrote the words "science of government". He knew that religion was just a belief. There have been quite a few different religions over time. They give many comfort. Sometimes its cherry picked. Just follow the money. How many religious wars have their been over time? A battle between two nations in their belief that their can be only one god. Personally on my own judgement day if I was too discover that St. Peter was really just a poor smiling Muslim transgender Muslim black woman.. I wouldn't blink an eye. I am not scared of hell fire. I don't believe that I need scripture to show me how to conduct my own life. I am human like everyone else. I don't mind being wrong because I'd rather live in reality. I don't believe in different kinds of human beings and I happily embrace the human ingenuity of others. I am a firm believer in the scientific method. I often wonder what has been lost to us over the past 1000 years. It is entirely possible that a poor Somalian girl had it within her to discover a cure for cancer. She was just never given the opportunity to contribute to human knowledge due to the circumstance that she just happened to be born into. The only reason why we didn't land on the moon 1,000 years ago is due in part to religion. It has fought tooth and nail against science to preserve is power. Did thoughts and prayers get us to the moon or did science? Are we getting smarter? Look out your window. What do you see? The only reason why history repeats itself is because as of yet there is no cure for our own human nature. Some believe that they are smarter than the next person and don't like to be wrong. This is just the human ego that tends to double down on the first impressions it fabricates almost instantly. It is not such an easy thing to wake up and smell the coffee. Stay curious.. and anything is possible. This is my two cents on the subject. I suspect I'm going to be getting change.
there are so many factually wrong pieces of information in this video, the theory of multiple intelligences is incredibly controversial, disputed, and most importantly, not numerical and thus not scientific, the change in IQ over time, the Flynn effect, does not apply to adults, it applies to their children from a young age, you can't change adult IQ, maybe a few points, but nothing like 30 points, our genes that make up our brains have not changed much over time, and we are simply developing more abstracted ways of using the same brains and also getting better nutrition early on, that's it, we will max out at some point and it's already happening, with a reverse Flynn effect taking place in many countries

very informative, thanks 😁😁
Hopefully we are
Sí
I still have no hope for humans
We have the same intelligence, we just don't use and gain it properly.
facts

You go far enough up the line you reach one person.

intelligence speed doesn't increase
The BBC logo isn't centralised to IDEAS. Or is it just me.
Hi Jalal. Where do you mean? On the top left of the video? Or somewhere else?
@@bbcideas Yes, on the top left of the video.
Judging by old arcitecture and devices, people have obviously been getting dumber.
thid video is hupothetical...but thanks i got where to use bruh😂😃😂😂😂 right here...

A.G.I Will be man's last invention
For the experts to not understand the Flynn Effect is embarrassing.
