One thing I have to interject; those "first person view" segments is from the perspective of the camera, as it's being used to record "Astra Yao's Vlog" as mentioned by the title card. You'll notice when she meets up with the pair of fans, the camera zooms in and loses focus for a moment while Wise attempts to record the scene. So it wasn't so much a self-insert thing, as an artistic reference to the movie "A Roman Holiday". Astra Yao was playing Audrey Hepburn's part, and Wise was standing in for Gregory Peck. I hope this lifts your spirits a bit, since the whole thing was merely meant as a classic movie reference.
