The clarity of the cello line at 15:07 is absolutely glorious

A classic recording of this great tone poem. Thank you for sharing it! I was recently watching a 1980 thriller called 'The Island,' and was excited to hear this music used in the film. The movie is unusual, but has several scenes of murderous pirates chasing and overtaking their victims on the high seas. Ennio Morricone wrote the score, but integrated sections of Ein Heldenleben into certain cues to marvelous effect.

A superb performance. Kempe had experience playing under Strauss and understood his works better than most conductors.

I bought an LP of this recording in 1980. It helped me to appreciate the music of R. Strauss more, and from there, I have come to appreciate Maestro Kempe's recordings of Beethoven, Wagner, and Mozart. Hoomeyow!!
