That woman that possesses Mia is waterlogged, and Mia's "mom" looks more rotted and waterlogged as the film goes on. It's absolutely that spirit that is manipulating Mia to kill Riley.
Riley’s possession was one of the most traumatic things I’ve ever seen in a movie. To this day, I get flashes and visions of that scene. I saw it in theaters and this scene was so loud and violent, I could feel every bang against the desk in my bones. It was such a visceral experience that I will never forget. I almost walked out.
I hope you're ok, I genuinely mean that. Make sure you take time to match any bad feelings with intentional good ones (if you get a flash back, play a happy song straight away and let the goodness take over and minimize the bad feelings. Things like that can really lessen the bad ❤)
Sorry to hear that, unfortunately some things do linger in the mind for some reason. I've had similar feeling with a few films. One was the lift scene in Resident Evil (2002) and the walking on the pipes scenes aswell. That shyte stayed with me throughout my childhood and teenhood. I would keep reminding myself that it is a film, and think about the art of creating a movie, like... prosthetics, physical effects, camera angles, dialogue, scores, colour design, sound design... etc, thinking about the artists instead of my brain convincing myself it was real. I actually adore that film now. 😂
this is probably one of my favorite horror movies this year, I’m glad it wasn’t jumpscare every 30 seconds but instead gives you that feeling something is watching you in all the dark corners throughout the film.
It’s a pretty direct metaphor for someone getting addicted to substances or anything else unhealthy to cope with a traumatic life event vs actually dealing with it. And young people indulging in the same stuff to party or as a result of peer pressure. That’s why I wasn’t as hard on Mia and Riley as normal ouiji board movie characters - the irrational decisions were part of the movie’s theme and not a typical horror movie character making dumb mistakes just so the audience can see the consequences imo
I think Mia was "possessed" the whole time herself, because she also went over 90 seconds. I think the fake mom is the spirit that possessed her the first time, and that's why it knew what her mum called her and wanted Riley so badly. It was just using her to get Riley.
This movie was so good. I think the water ghost from her first time using the hand was impersonating her mom since you can hear that waterlogged noise anytime her "mom" is on screen.
Such a tragic movie. Sophie Wilde was spectacular as Mia, really took a frustrating and damaged character and made her someone I really like and empathized with, makes the ending even sadder. I honestly reminded of Pearl last year, a dark character study with the actresses Sophie and Mia carrying the entire thing on their shoulders. Very disappointed thar Hayley and Joss did not get what they deserved, which was a WHOOPING.
I have never had such a gripping experience watching a movie in theater before. Our whole theater was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. So many violent scenes and really creepy without jump scares. Fav movie of the year so far and fav horror movie in a long, long time
As someone from South Australia this movie makes me so happy and proud! I'm so glad it's had so much love and success! The story, acting, prosthetic makeup and that ending! Its so good and I'm glad they kept the Australian actors as I heard big producers wanted to change that. Also teenagers doing reckless and dangerous things for fun is very much on brand for Adelaide 😂
We don’t know if she jumped or was pushed. The spirits took advantage of her grief, her mom was never there and yes glad Riley was alive. I think the spirit that was behind Riley pretend to be Mia’s mom and Mia’s spirit was the drowning woman, after the first possession there’s always rain when Mia is around
Re: the doorhandles. Older houses (1900-1960s) in Australia have door handles at about 2/3 height - not sure why, maybe just a fashion? Prior to that they were very low. Modern houses (last ~50yrs) have them standardised to hip height for ergonomics and accessibility. Never knew it wasn't a thing outside Australia!
After the first couple possessions, I don't think she was really making her own decisions without some demonic influence. I got tingles at the end when we realize she's dead and now she's on the other side of the hand.
poor Riley, Joe Bird and Miranda Otto were amazing. Don’t hate Mia too much she was so heartbroken and desperate. i don’t think she had any i’ll will, she was sick and manipulated.
I found it interesting that they said the spirits weaken over time, and near the end, Jade says on the phone that Riley seemed to be getting better and was more himself. At the same time, the spirit escalates things with Mia very quickly to trick her into killing Riley to "save" him. According to the movie, if you die while it's inside you, then it has you forever. That's what it wanted. I think if she had left it alone, the spirit may have eventually lost its grip.
I was so tense during the dog scene I definitely thought something sinister was about to happen. Also at the end that was actually the other hand because if you noticed she grabbed the hand with the opposite one she used when she was alive. I think the whole thing with her “nightmare” was actually just her fear of death so when she noticed she didn’t see her reflection she looked down at her hands and realized she was dead.
I’m interested in readings of this film as an allegory for also addiction propelled by her grief, like party drugs. These kids don’t care or don’t consider how dangerous this thing is they’re messing with and Mia is especially vulnerable to abusing it since she hasn’t really accepted or processed entirely her moms death. It’s stupid decisions, but through that lens it’s entirely believable that someone would continue doing this either to find escape from her current trauma, and/or try a sliver or a way to connect with her mom/fix what she did, almost like a gamble with diminishing returns. Also the blond guy they talk to on the bus is the guy from the beginning looking for his brother. The possessed one that stabbed himself in the face stabbed his brother in the chest but he survived.
I think the hand at the end is the 2nd hand Haley mentioned at the party. They/Them said it was 'out there somewhere'. The man at the end was speaking Greek so they are the ones in possession of the other hand on the other side of the World. Great reaction!
This movie surprised me. I really enjoyed it when I wasn't expecting to. The amount of creepiness mixed with actual brutality.. ugh. So good. So glad you're back to horror and are watching this!
I absolutely love your reactions and editing. I had just finished watching this movie and came right here to process with some laughter. Perfect treat! And not to bring the mood down, but as someone who lost a parent, I could never think to do something like this. It seems like a deeper pit of grief not at all like closure (even in a non-horror movie scenario). Then again, Mia’s situation is very different, and everyone mourns differently. Just please keep your hands to yourself and don’t let ghost demons in.
Hey @nicksaysboo I just had to relay this it since you mentioned it, but back in May, there was a story of a hotel guest in Nashville who woke up in his room to find the night manager sucking on his toes. Actual news story, with a mugshot, and everything. So...uh, y'know: sleep tight?
When they brought the hand out at the party, the first thing I thought was that "Yo Staceyyy, talk to me, talk to me, talk to me, baybaaaaay" line in A Goofy Movie
My take on this film is that its about drug addiction. Mias going through a tough time after losing her mam, tries drugs at a party once, feels something other than grief so proceeds to do it time and time again to numb the pain. Riley tried it once ans od'd ended up in a coma but pulled through. Mia however completely loses herself (loses her reflection) and ends up in the dark pits of addiction feeling totally alone. This isnt facts obviously but how i percieved the story, loved it
The movie seems like an allegory to risky party activities like huffing spray paint out of a paper bag. Mia is deeply lonely, she says her greatest fear is being ignored/not being seen (the reflection thing), and the opening of the movie hits you with shot after shot of her being alone in the frame, or trying to connect with people who ignore her or keep her at arm's length. The few glancing moments of connection are almost always followed by some form of rejection or a reminder of how distant she is - being silly with her best friend only to be relegated to third wheel as soon as the boyfriend shows up. The sole exceptions are Riley and the acceptance she gets from the group by using the hand. A lot of the 'stupid' decisions (made easier by the fact she has a cold, it's the anniversary of her mom's death) make more sense in this light. Letting Riley do the thing? I can see a reconfiguration of the film to a non-supernatural film about huffing spray paint, and her letting him do it (and him getting hurt) because for her, he & the 'drug' are the only good things in her life- so why not let them intersect?
I’d say opioids, people don’t really huff as much anymore as they used to (unless you count whippets or computer duster), but there’s an active opioid epidemic that’s been happening all over the world for a long time now.
This movie got under my skin, which is exactly why I liked it so much. It’s a really good allegory for addiction and how grief can be a major trigger for it. It’s all very real stuff. The way Mia describes the feeling of the hand is exactly like heroin; warm and “glowing” and you just want more of it.
This was good But I wish the other “friends” 🙄 would have suffered consequences like Mia and Jade. Don’t get me wrong I liked this movie but it was just felt a little unfair but O well. Great video Nick!! 💛
I loved this movie. I thought it was really well written and VERY well shot. The intensity was off the chart in the moments where they clearly wanted it, and I jumped in the theater when Riley started headbanging. OOF. Incredibly stylish. Miranda Otto was the coolest mom of all time. I thought all of these young actors crushed it. Absolutely excellent.
Definitely in my top 5 horror movies of the year cause this year has been pretty lackluster with the horror movies for the most part and while I don’t agree with all this hype of “best horror movie in decades” or “scariest movie of the year” it’s a good horror movie that I liked and will be excited for the sequel. The 2 sequences that got the strongest reaction out of me was the kid about to take his eye out and the shot of the ghosts all around him naked that was horrific to see like so disgusting and disturbing no gore or anything just absolutely unnerving. Which is how I would some this movie up it’s more unnerving/disturbing than scary cause I wasn’t scared one jumpscare got me.
Yeah it has a few scary moments, but not something that for me personally will stick with me. But I did very much so enjoy it, and looking forward to both the sequel AND the prequel!
The movie made a point to show Jade following Mia and Riley at the end, and a lot of reactors (that I've watched) seem to overlook the idea that Jade could have pushed Mia into traffic to save Riley. Honestly I thought that was why they didn't show how Mia fell, especially when they had a shot of Mia letting go of the wheelchair.
Can I just say when I went to the theater and watch this it was just me and another family and when they left out of the theater early cause it was too scary. I had a whole theater to myself so I was having a good time. It’s a great movie. Check it out watch stream it whatever Nick your reactions are also amazing.
seeing this movie in theatres was WILD. especially because they cranked the audio so it was booming! this film made me super uneasy and I wanted to scream out how idiotic some of these characters were, ya'll messing with ghosts and death and nothing good ever comes from that
Coming back as soon as I roll up and finish cooking. This gon be GOODT im sat Also the prequel was already filmed (found footage style) So we have a guaranteed trilogy at least
Initially, I asked myself the same question: Why tf would anyone want to do this, in the first place? But then I started recognizing the themes of addiction and substance abuse, and it clicked. Addiction runs in my family and, although I’ve never personally dabbled, I have witnessed the devastating and cyclical effects of it. And you often find yourself asking: Why tf would anyone want to do this, in the first place?
32:49 we all know that her decisions were dumb, she's a depressed teenager who got to see/talk to her dead mother again but i feel like that's the point lmao?!?? it's obvious a character in that situation isn't going to make the most rational decisions and the unrealistic part is thinking that she would tbh, OF COURSE her decisions were terrible but she was being manipulated like the spirits were literally bending reality to get her to do their biding and then have her as well
Nick I’m with you!! I’d get the fuck out of there!! Why would people do this?! What is wrong with kids?? Why do kids fuck with demons??!! We just need to have a class on what NOT to do in horror movies!!! Yes just like in the original Scream!!!
would i have been the only one that would’ve immediately got my shi and left after they pulled that hand out and started willingly getting possessed? 😂
watched this today with my family and we were all SCREAMING during the eye scene. then afterwards we all couldnt help but laugh at ourselves. this would have been electric in a cinema
This movie is one of my favorite movies that recently came out, it’s well directed, well written and jump scares aren’t happening every 30 seconds, I saw this movie twice in theaters first time was okay but the second time I went, when Riley was using the hand there was such a audible gasp from the audience during that scene
the music in the montage itches my brain and it is one of my favorite parts of the film for that reason. this movie is definitely one of the best horror films in a long time. at least in my opinion.
Okay so Bam my theory is the person who Mia "let in" was very wet bloated and looked like she had drowned or something right plus they said Mia went over the 90 seconds so as the movie goes on when you see Mia she is framed around water (the rain) and you hear water in the background. I sing that when she first let it in its saw that she was mourning her mom's death so when they let the little brother do it the spirit manipulated Mia by pretending it was her mother possessing the little boy and throughout the whole movie the mother's spirit appears to Mia wet an bulbous like a bloated or drowned corpse similar to the lady that entered Mia. So when Haley said after 90 sec "they would want to stay." It held true because Mia went over 90 secs and the whole movie is showing them attached to her, attacking those around her (the little bro and the dude she liked) the spirits were manipulating her missing her mom & her isolation from her peers and feeding on it until she "broke" which is why at the end the spirit was behind her and I think pushed her in front of the cars not the little boy. It was always here they wanted everything else was collateral damage. I'm intrigued to where part 2 would go with the story
"i dont have subtitles on. i dont know everyone's names". I really thought this was setting up a joke for no one understands what aussies (or brits) are saying without subtitles on to translate haha
What perfect timing, I just watched this for the first time earlier this afternoon.. Its fate lol I really enjoyed this movie, it was so entertaining and I really loved the overall vibes and the atmosphere. I was surprised how brutal the gore was! It was used very effectively and not in a cheesy, almost ridiculous, way. It really elevated the tension. Even though the characters were kinda dumb(although the lead girl, although grieving, was very dumb) I did like most of them and I really appreciated that they weren't likable at times Anyways HORROR IS BACK, or at least coming back Thank you for the content boo💕
The lead did make extremely stupid decisions but grief doesn't allow you to make the best decisions...so I'll give her a little bit of understanding. A little lol
the game night sequence they had with all the dancing and shit was so fun i think about it often, like how did they blend teenage funw with pants pissing horror idk but it worked!
I think there’s a line mentioning “what happened to the other hand?” so at the end I think it’s simply the original medium’s other hand and there are only two.
Liked, commented and subscribed immediately. I LOVE YOUR ENERGY!!! Also, as soon as I saw the movie was Australian my South African ass also busted out into a terrible Australian accent.
Saw this movie last night, we found it gripping and reminded us about The Babadook, because of the emotional horror The mother is played by the actress that played Éowyn in LOTR
I watched this movie with my younger brother and we agreed we would never get near anything like that. Also Riley’s sister never used the hand she was always just sitting down watching and I told my brother I would go the same thing I would never let him and I would legitimately just take him away from there. I think this movie had me more disturbed then scared with the dog and the feet.
At the end and you brought up prophetic dreams which reminded me that my whole family has mocked me for over thirty years for once suggesting we talk about “psychic dreams” at dinner. 🙃
talk to me is in my top 5 of favorite scary movies (yknow terrifier 2, sick, [coked-up] bear, winnie, etc. i haven't sorted it out yet). the scene/shots direction was perfect, the foreshadow of the kangaroo, the suspense & horror, even the anticipation before the movie was perfection! this movie, i would say, is an excellent example for any aspiring directors or writers who would want to make horror or thrillers and slashers. i can't wait for zzavid to make a reaction to this and make a joke about bdsm lmfao
Not sure if anyone has answered this already and I’m too late lol, but Duckett is the one that died in the beginning who stabbed himself after stabbing his brother which is the blond haired guy. He clearly lived to tell the tale. Hopefully that answered your question ☺️
I had a similar reaction: it's been done before (possession, grief, dumb, dumb, DUMB decisions) but the actors, makeup, etc.. made it pretty good. I had a wonderful time with you!
Just spitballing here: Not seeing yourself in the mirror could represent your death and the death of your memory, profound isolation, or being unable to have self-awareness. Based on this movie, all three. After her mother passed, Mia could no longer see herself because she didnt know who she was without her mom. She isolated herself from her remaining family, and eventually she was isolated and rejected by her friends. But if noone wants to remember you after you die, that is a true death in every way, and your only connection to life is not in the memory of your loved ones, but in this stupid seance game.
❤❤ OMGOSH I love your reaction to this movie. Everything you said I was thinking the same thing. The Sadness is still my favorite reaction video on your channel. I love you Nick 💕 Smooches
Yess 💜 right before bed. We are here with thoughts on the movie. besides the little brother all theses teens were so dumb. I liked the imagery it freaked me out if that makes sense lol.
Nick I think it was said at the start that there were two hands one of which the main characters utilise in the film and the one which summons Mia's ghost at the end of the film. Great video as always all the best 😊👍
like if i were in that situation and I mean like hard IF and was forced to play with the hand I would just say the talk to me part I'd never say I let you in like hell no
"You're not drinking tonight. On God- I will punch you in the face." Me, in the bathroom mirror on Friday afternoon.

this!! i didn't catch the fact that she went over 90 seconds until i rewatched it, and then so much more of the plot made sense.
The editing in this is too good. We need more Nicksaysboo stans out here
haha thank you! appreciate you! 🤘🤘
To state the obvious those are Not friends!!! I get it, we all want to fit in but not at the cost of your life or sanity!
The mum is so accurate for an Australian mum! They're so blunt 😂 and we do swear a lot!
I am OBSESSED with her now.
This movie was so good. I think the water ghost from her first time using the hand was impersonating her mom since you can hear that waterlogged noise anytime her "mom" is on screen.

that's a great catch, if true. damn. 🤔
I’m pretty sure it is. Her mom’s ghost gets progressively more wet and waterlogged as well.

My favorite horror film of the year! The way they combined grief, drug use (the hand is like a drug) and the horror elements was amazing.

I love that both you and Zzavid referenced the Angelina bathroom scene from Scream 3.
Oh that's an interesting thought. Now you got me wondering. 🤔
hmm i thought the shot of her letting Riley in the wheelchair go was to signify that she was taking his place but i like your theory
i swear you can see Jade through the car windscreen, her blue jeans and green shirt coming up behind Mia. So i believe Jade pushed Mia.
@@tia2397 Yeeeess 100% I had to slow it down but she pushed her...which is valid, fuck outa here tryna kill my brother lol.
I went into this film completely blind and I'm so glad I did. The whole thing too me by surprise. It's become one of my favorite modern Horror films.
This gon be GOODT im sat
Also the prequel was already filmed (found footage style) So we have a guaranteed trilogy at least
A found footage version?! Count me IN
Take my strong hand" 😂😂😂
You sound like Roger from American dad and that's a compliment.
Yes just like in the original Scream!!!
wish I would play with demons, these kids had me 🤬'd up
@@nicksaysboo17 these kids are so dumb! They have the internet at their fingertips and yet they want to play dumb games? Fine, but we gonna dip!✌🏻
9:22 😂
would i have been the only one that would’ve immediately got my shi and left after they pulled that hand out and started willingly getting possessed? 😂
Nope, I'd have been right there with ya.
watched this today with my family and we were all SCREAMING during the eye scene. then afterwards we all couldnt help but laugh at ourselves. this would have been electric in a cinema
This movie is one of my favorite movies that recently came out, it’s well directed, well written and jump scares aren’t happening every 30 seconds, I saw this movie twice in theaters first time was okay but the second time I went, when Riley was using the hand there was such a audible gasp from the audience during that scene
10:56 😂
"Y'all buy a vibator" had me cracking up I had to pause the video I was laughing too much.
im here from zzavid reconmendation and im excited!!
the music in the montage itches my brain and it is one of my favorite parts of the film for that reason. this movie is definitely one of the best horror films in a long time. at least in my opinion.
gives a whole new meaning to TALK TO THE HAND
Its fate lol
I really enjoyed this movie, it was so entertaining and I really loved the overall vibes and the atmosphere. I was surprised how brutal the gore was! It was used very effectively and not in a cheesy, almost ridiculous, way. It really elevated the tension.
Even though the characters were kinda dumb(although the lead girl, although grieving, was very dumb) I did like most of them and I really appreciated that they weren't likable at times
Anyways HORROR IS BACK, or at least coming back
Thank you for the content boo💕
The lead did make extremely stupid decisions but grief doesn't allow you to make the best decisions...so I'll give her a little bit of understanding.
A little lol
@nicksaysboo17 there's a prequel and a sequel coming
@@nicksaysboo17 most definitely but at the end of the day the flags gotta start turning red at some point😂
the game night sequence they had with all the dancing and shit was so fun i think about it often, like how did they blend teenage funw with pants pissing horror idk but it worked!
Those are the hardest pillow slaps ever in the beginning
i was thinking the same thing with the Giles plot line!!
the whole time I'm like "why does this feel so familiar"?!
I feel so ashamed i never knew this channel existed but now i do and i love it!!
I'm glad I stumbled upon your video. You're funny and you've earned a subscriber :).
I think there’s a line mentioning “what happened to the other hand?” so at the end I think it’s simply the original medium’s other hand and there are only two.
Liked, commented and subscribed immediately. I LOVE YOUR ENERGY!!!
Also, as soon as I saw the movie was Australian my South African ass also busted out into a terrible Australian accent.
welcome to the party 🎉
Saw this movie last night, we found it gripping and reminded us about The Babadook, because of the emotional horror
The mother is played by the actress that played Éowyn in LOTR
17:54 had me fucking dead!!! I love you so much for this reaction, thank you
Not even about the film yet. But I love your shirt! It's so cute!
thank you, target wins again!
Came to immediately see your reaction to the dog scene 😂
literally the scariest part of the movie 💀🤢
5:49 okay I’ll never forgive you for. Or inserting a Randy Marsh going “I am Lorde, yah yah yah” clip in right here.
I tried to look away from the eye scene, but I couldn't look away.
Neither could Riley 💀
Loved the reaction! I'm wondering if the people at the end were using the other hand?
I bought this last night, i like to hang with my foot off the bed, now im scared ghost 👻 is gonna suck my toes
I used to be afraid of getting dragged outta bed ala Paranormal Activity but now I gotta protect the toes 💀
Seeing the brother get flash back of Glenn from walking dead lol
Not The Sadness 💀💀
@@nicksaysboo17 😆😆😆 Your the best Nick! I appreciate you and all the trauma we put you through.
I HAVE BEEN PATIENTLY WAITING FOR UR REACTION TO THIS ONE 😂 And of course, you didn’t disappoint! Awesome as always 👏🏼
I'm so fucking excited thank you so much for watching this I was waiting for someone to react and I'm so so glad it's you❤❤❤
Yess 💜 right before bed. We are here with thoughts on the movie. besides the little brother all theses teens were so dumb. I liked the imagery it freaked me out if that makes sense lol.
Riley didn't deserve it 😭
19:31 but it possessed Riley. Not Mia.
Nick I think it was said at the start that there were two hands one of which the main characters utilise in the film and the one which summons Mia's ghost at the end of the film. Great video as always all the best 😊👍
I saw you on my feed after watching zzavid and I know he always mentions you but i've never watched you. Yall are literally the same people I love it.
They shot a prequel about Duckett alongside this and a sequel about mia and everybody's story's already been greenlit
like if i were in that situation and I mean like hard IF and was forced to play with the hand I would just say the talk to me part I'd never say I let you in like hell no
From what I’ve seen it’s jade that pushes Mia innit he road. Apparently you can see it in the mirror in the car.
Just watched last night at work, it was better than I expected but I still wish there was more to it!
OH NOOORRRRRRRRRRRRR
