- Today we start our build on our Turbo Vortec 4200 powered 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. We hope this will be our American Supra to take on the legendary 2JZ.
T-Shirts: www.paccracing...
This is what we need to start seeing. Vortec swaps into common, newer, easy to get chassis that more people have. Now we can really get people doing these swaps 😎
Agree!
"Pop the hood!" "Forty 2 Hundred noooooo shit bro!"
You should call it the Camaro "SUPRA SPORT"!
I said a 10 second car not a 10 minute car
Absolutely!!!
Gonna need to overnight parts from DETROIT
This will decimate all after about 15 grand.!!! Let’s go boys!
i’m crying tears of american joy
I'm proud to be an American...

This Sunday has dropped a LOAD of great content today!!! Garand Thumb breaking down an F1 FAMAS, Robot Cantina firing up the supercharged Kubota swapped Honda Insight, and a drop from Calvin!
Robot Cantina is awesome, that guy doesn't even know where the box is he's so far outside of it. Savin Junk is good too, he has regular videos but his new van is something else
Dude. I Watched all of those!
Based 💯🔥🔥
FAMAS is in Formula1?
@@mpetersen6no sir. Famas as in pew pew.
Pulling an LS out and swapping it for anything else. THIS is what I'm here for! Looking forward to this build.
This is great! I saw a very cheap 91 V6 Camaro on marketplace and had the idea to swap in a turbo Atlas.🤔
Do it!!
A 3rd Gen Camaro is basically a mk3 supra.
@@trekkie1701e idk if you could fit one of these engines into a 3rd gen..
😅@@trekkie1701e
The v6 came in those things are junk, should find a GM 4.3 v6 to drop in it
This is almost like a tribute to John Delorean when he was doing Pontiac. Taking the Camaro as a baseline, favoring a 6 cylinder OHC over a v8 is exactly what he did with the Firebird in 1967.
Lighter, better handling, high rpm and a unique engine sound.
Now you do this with a DOHC inline 6.
The turbo is the cherry on top.
If you convert the front to a Firebird then it would be a 2024 interpretation of his work.
Good luck with that build, greetings from Germany!
> lighter
The pushrod v8s in these are lighter or the same weight as most Inline 6s and even some inline 4s. They also have a lower CG.
I am a 2010 Camaro SS owner and I absolutely love this build! I can't wait to follow this build and see where it goes.
I threw out that I wanted to put a 4200 in a C4 Corvette on a Richard Holdner live session and folks went kinda nutz , great job Gents !
Also planning on doing this!
@hi4943 As someone that owns a C4 and has a 4200 on an engine stand, I don't think you can do it and make it look decent. The v8 is right up against the crossmember so major work would need to be done there for the long 4200 and then there is the crazy height. The entire head would be sitting above the hood pretty much. The idea of an inline 6 C4 is amazing though. The driftHQ C4 was so close to greatness.
Sounds like a cool swap. But hood clearance will be an issue. You might need a pro-stock style hood scoop. 😛
For better hood clearance, you might consider a BMW 6-cyl, or a 2JZ. Just an idea.
I have wanted a built 4200 since I heard that on that live session. Now, thanks to you, every time I see a knackered Trail Blazer, Buick Rainer, Olds Bravada , Saab 9 7 X or other GMT 360 I think of the possibilities within.
I don't find it likely that it'll fit. Someone else already mentioned that it's a tight fit with the stock SBC or an LS, and there are a few cases of where a 4200 doesn't fit where an LS does lengthwise (see people asking about 4200 swapping a Colorado, which came with LSs from the factory for a couple years). In any case, if you're willing to modify the front crossmember so significantly, send it lol.
You picked up a COPO Camaro? NICE. I'm really stoked for this build!
Also, big props to Jeff. 👍
It's not a COPO. Just has a lot of COPO parts.
OK. That's still pretty cool.
Those 5th gens are a tight fit inside. In case you didn't know, they're Holdens underneath, so any suspension stuff on a similar era Commodore should apply. This one looks pretty sorted for the drag work you want to do already.
Not sure what you mean. There is tons of room.
In the cabin? With the stock seats I couldn't get a comfortable driving position. But I'm 6'3 and mostly legs. I imagine a decently placed race bucket would fix that.
@@christophercasale7961 When you can relocate the seat it's completely fine.
Yeh ik you bastard yanks didn't sell us this gen camaro when it used a commodore platform and a ton of the promotional photography was actually done in Australia, easily my favourite modern camaro shape.
This is insane, love this build! I've been toying with the idea of eventually doing a 4200tt, with a 6 speed manual / potentially some variant of a 6-10 spd auto, swapped into a Pontiac solstice or Saturn sky.
Make it a light weight pocket rocket, built for road courses, auto x, drag, etc.
Find a C7 7 speed manual transaxle to swap in it...that would be awesome.
Dude I absolutely love it when people switch it up from the norm. This is awesome
What a great find on the Camaro, I figured you guy's still had some ideas cooking in the back ground for the 4200, very nice.
Going to be setting some records with this build!
Can’t wait to see in on Sick Summer, we’ll be racing too. We have a 4200 project motor but nothing to put it in yet. We’ll be sure to find you and geek out on it.
Heck yeah! Come say Hi.
Calvin had Fairmont owners in their feels because of him dropping Atlas’s in them, now the die hard “it aint a Camaro without a Vee8” guys will be chiming in now😂😂. Awesome choice man, love it
It's always better to do something not everyone is doing. I think this is perfect for the time. Who don't know strait six builds get down in the motor head world. And it's gonna be probably one the first if not the first to do this. Even if it's not the fastest car ever, it's gonna better then the same old same old supercharger/turbo v8 build everyone's done.
Calvin you dont't understand how excited I am for this build, I was curious why someone else hasn't done it yet. Good luck with your build
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I like these muscle cars with smaller engines (although a 4.2 isn't that much smaller...) ever since I found out about the 2.3 foxbodies and how they even were the fastest of the Mustang lineup at the time.
Nice that this project is all GM, as it's a way to show what the manufacturer could've done with its own resources, and it's more satisfactory for me to see things being kept within the group (that's the only ounce of purism I carry with me 😅).
It's gonna be an exciting venture.
I can't remember right now all the differences and upgrades this vortec 4200 had during his life time but, i really love inline 6's and THIS type of project its what take all my attention! Racing company's PLEASE! start making tough, stronger, modern aftermarket pieces for this platform! Can you imagine a Billet vortec 4200? Billet cylinder heads? All bottom end parts, this could be a beautiful future. And you buddy are the first that's building it up! Thank you! And i wish to see endless content like this
Edited plumbers crack had me on the floor laughing .one of my favorite channels!
I was wondering if anyone would notice.
Oh we noticed 😅
Haha at least im not the only one that noticed. 😅
The Ameri-barra engine put into a Holden derived Camaro is the most appropriate swap ever. I wonder if some Australian GM fans wishing the commodore had a trim model that competed directly with the Falcon XR6.
There was a guy in the FB group who imported a VS commodore ute and was putting one of these 4200s in one.
@@thewraith6360 a match made in heaven. Seems a little odd that Holden never borrowed the 4200 to go directly against the barra.
@sigmaprojects holden could have easily abandoned the 3.6 and set up tooling to manufacture these in Australia.
@@DarrellWilkerson4.6 To your credit considering the 4.2L was going away GM could conceivable have shipped the equipment to Australia for some application as long as it met Australian emission standards. Would have been an interesting move. The last 4.2L ended in 2012, new camaro started in 2010. A new Holden Commodore with an inline 6 would have been fun.
I’ve always wanted to put a barra into a ecoboost mustang. I know Adam lz did something similar but it was to a gt350. Anyway, looking forward to this!
I truly enjoy every video you do involving the 4200. If I wasn't so old , tired, I would have really enjoyed being a friend of yours. Good luck racing this one!
Thanks 👍
That's a great idea. I'm looking forward to continuing the project. Good luck with the construction.
GM needs to bring these engines back into production in NA and Turbocharged forms already shored up for the duty. This build will be awesome, but you know that already!
Mabye now that every company is phasing out v8s it can make a revival, I mean Chryslers new hemi replacement is an i6 engine.
I'm excited about this build. I'd love to do a street version with a manual trans.
I’m stoked to see this build!! I’ve been kicking around the idea of turboing a Trailblazer for a couple years now. A 9-7x would be even wilder because it came stock with AWD. It’s kinda shocking that the 4200 hasn’t caught on to the mainstream already!
Very cool. Great idea working with a more mainstream vehicle. Should drum up more interest. Looks like a killer platform to start with too.
I agree on Corvette, however, I thought of a 5 cyl atlas powered C4 and I can't shake that vision. That would be so funky cool
Another cool swap idea is putting one of these into a G8. Same platform as the Camaro and a V6 G8 is dirt cheap
Long time boat and Jeep enthusiasts..
Thank you for showing what a great motor the I-6 is.
It's beautiful ❤
I have a gmc envoy and an 85 camaro sitting in my yard, been thinking about doing this forever!!
No. Freaking. Way.
Absolutely epic!
I'm VERY excited for this project... And man that Camaro was a score!
Cool build
YES!! I’ve had this idea for years! Glad yall are tackling it 👍🏻👍🏻
It looks surprisingly crowded in there. Shows how compact an LS really is
What do you mean? There is tons of room.
The turbo is right up against the strut tower brackets, the very short runner intake a few inches from the strut tower (front throttle body I'm guessing), the top of the valve cover is at least as high as an LS3 intake, the front of the engine as expected is as far forward as the water pump of an LS (to be expected with the longer I6). It's reminiscent of a supra engine bay and correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like the dimensions of the 4200 are very close to a 2JZ other than the height, but the camaro is a much larger car than a Supra. I expected the 4200 to look small in a Camaro engine bay but it looks pretty snug just like a MKIV supra.
Awesome! We are looking to put a turbo 4200 in a 1962 AMC Rambler American. It will be a tight fit, but should be an absolute blast!
Id like one in my 64 cutlass
Great concept, you guys have struck gold!
Mint! It looks so right in there
Happy to see the score on a solid 5th gen... the cage, rear axle upgrade what a score. Happy For Everyone!!!
Looks like it's going to be an awesome build . I'm looking forward to seeing the progression of the car and also getting to watch you run it at sick summer this year.
First, good to see your dad fully back in shop! Second, more awesomeness coming, stay tuned to this channel! Great buy, from the look of it. Lots of "better answers" to the problems of moving up class for you and your dad.
LV3 guys are going to be PISSED. This is going to be badass as always, who made those runners on that intake 👀👀
I did. Thanks
Came out A1 man good job!@@Calvin-Nelson
I have long wished to see a vortec 4200 in a first-generation Firebird Sprint.
I’m glad the vortec 4200 is starting to get the love it deserves.
Bumblebee takedowns of any Barra Mustangs that show up. Cheers from Australia.
Great work Calvin. I always thought putting a trans axel out of a vette would have made a great street proforma.
You're taking a different route. The TC 4200 a real weapon.
HELL YEAH BROTHER! This is it. I have haltech figured out now with my turbo civic. Next build is a 4200 in a camaro. Sick.
Can’t wait! Wanna learn more of the engine management. Putting a ar5 and a 4200 in an iroc.
This is awesome!! Also you guys are the reason I'm debating going with a 4200 instead of an LS for my '72 chevelle.
Would love to see the 4200 mated to a 6l90
Someone’s gotta swap a 4200 into a G8!! The Aussies would be proud. Direct competition to an Falcon XR6
Yes, I love it with a - of modern flavor. Ok, boys, let's not repeat what we did with the Volvo. Put some forged internals, please!....
Jeff's engine has forged parts. We're good
I've always wanted a Barra swapped Mustang so I have a soft spot for this build ❤
SUCH A TEASE!! hurry up with more content on this build bubba!
I thought about swapping a altas into my landcruiser. Can't wait for the next video. I like the 4500 and wish there was more aftermarket for it. You just gained a new fan.
My first car was an '04 GMC Envoy XUV with the 4.2 Vortec. I can't wait to see how this build turns out.
Speaking as an Aussie, with Slant 6's and Hemi 6's powered cars in our family, your choice of the Aussie engineered Camaro as the 'Murican Supra is absolutely fantastic.

Never would have I ever guessed seeing the engine that was in my moms 2007 envoy growing up in a Camaro
I think it’s gonna be awesome!! I been waiting for some body to build a 2010-2015 lt Camaro with out a LS series engine. I’m on the edge of my seat, just can’t wait to see this on a Dyno!! Let’s go!!!!!!
We are stoked for build!!!! Can't wait to see what you can do with the Camaro.
I had a New 4.2 Envoy back in 2000. I always knew these power plants had great potential!!
This dude is Awesome & Clearly knows how to make HP.
LOL that's comedy gold where you blocked the crack.
Not sure if anyone else already said it but being that 1st gen camaros also had a straight 6 this is a nice callback to camaro history. Definitely is what gm should've built instead of going V6 as the alternative to the 8cyl model.
The guitar music is frikken' AWESOME!!
Yes! This falls into the category of why didn't I think of that? This should be a fun follow!
Thanks bud!
Very awesome build! Looking fwd to what you and your Dad can do with it!
This is really cool, can’t wait to see more. Looks like you have found some really good friends on the 4200 journey
Well now, I must admit, this one comes out of left field for sure. The project sounds very solid. If all goes well to plan, the cost of these used engines will most certainly go up. 🙂Best stockpile a few, eh? 😛All the best for 2024! Look forward to the videos this project generates.
You know what? This will decimate all…
Awesome! Can’t wait to see more!!!
The Trailblazer envoy didn't get the love it deserved. When done properly it was a very good little SUV.
The old pontiac overhead cam would be proud right now.
I hate Supra's even more than I hate Camaros, but I dig the 4200 and what you're doing with this car! I'm excited to see this come together
The 1st gen firebirds hood was done so it's Pontiac straight six would fit. With the cam up top, unlike chevys, was the clearance issue.
I believe Jeff is the same firebird I saw in a magazine years ago
I’m of the mindset that I love wierd and odd cars but I can see how limiting it must be for product development. This might be the best plan I think a lot of us would quickly have overlooked. Great idea and I’m super invested in the all American supra.
This is awesome!! Jeff with the turbo 2400 is local to me, i have spoken to him a few times. very nice guy and his car is way cool!
I am enthusiastically looking forward to the Vortec 4200 Powered Camaro build.
An SN95 with a Barra would be a much better combo. Great build for a Cheby guy I reckon.
Sounds like a cool combo. But on a drag n drive in the U.S. where are you going to find Barra parts?
So build it and come beat us.
@@nessie42786true as an Aussie you gotta use what you got, which is why all our damn builds are either an LS or a barra since they are cheap with lots of parts.
Into music had me rolling 🤣 Always stoked to see what you guys have coming next. Nothing cookie cutter coming out of y'all's shop. Pops looks like hes getting around pretty well
Also, way to go, Jeff! They're gonna make ya proud
That music choice really adds to the hype.
Cool car...make it light and it will be a WINNER...Thanks for this series...KILLER.
I think that combination is brilliant, only you guys can and will pull it off!
I also have a 2010 Camaro but mine is supercharged . I’m excited to see this American Supra
I think it's a awesome idea. I can't wait to see it when it's done. I've seen your other builds with the 4.2. Loved them!!
Excited to see this project progress.
this should be great marketing for this platform. hopefully catch up with you this summer somewhere.
oh heck yeah, this is what im talking about!! good stuff calvin and crew!!!
This fitting a 4200 means the G8 and Chevy ss can do it too. That's my preference.
If it was too be like a supra, irs would have been better, they can handle lots of power.
Great build intro! Awesome!
Good to see Dad up and attem.
You of course can build it better as you do. Look at that Mack sized hunk of iron in that yellow beast. What a freakazoid.
It's mostly aluminum actually.
@@Calvin-Nelson yeah I figured but you did a better job with this anyway so you made a video. My risk is internet trolling, why I don’t have no Supra in bee clothes.
Love those engines! They're unique and smooth as silk ❤
Sweet! I always wanted a modern engine for my old jalopy stepvan!
This is going to be amazing! Keep up the good work!
awesome idea!
drop all the boost on that thing
You know the Nelson boys are cooking when In the Hall of the Mountain King comes out
You have inspired me to drop a 4.2 Atlas into my third gen, hopefully it goes well
Okaaaaaay, i'm hooked Up to this build, i think IS a great ideas😎😎😎
Always wanted to know the limits of a 4200 never seen anyone build it before
