    I'm a long time Logic Pro X user, and the support for Multi-out instruments in Logic is robust, intuitive and easy as pie to set up. I can't even fathom switching to a DAW that does not have this feature.

    Great video! I use a different workaround that I find a bit easier to set up. I write the drums all in Luna while I'm writing and tracking the song. When they are just the way I like them, I export the midi to file and import that into a DAW that does support multi out. I then set up the multi out in that DAW to separate channels and export all channels as wave files. Then I set up all the new tracks in Luna and import each wave file. Sometimes I make a change to the drums MIDI after that, so I just go through the process again. It takes about 5 minutes and is easily repeatable.

    This is great but I am not switching to Luna until they fix this. EVERY DAw I have ever used supports multi-outs on VST instruments. Come on U/A get that fixed. until then I'll stick with the other 5 DAW's that support this. Good video either way :)

    Has UA talked about when LUNA will have mult outs??

    an inelegant work around is also copy your drum vst (using steve slate drums, modo drums doesn't show up??) to different tracks with the midi notes, solo snare or such for each wanted separate track - big resource user but can now re-write to add fills later on track that has toms or so, as keeps in midi realm

      Superior Drummer can export all the tracks separatly... This is the best way to use Luna w/SD...

    I'm not sure if AD can do it, but Superior Drummer has a feature to bounce the midi from within SD to separate audio tracks. Then drag those into Luna. If AD can't do that, this is a great workaround.

    • @ParadiseSound
      @ParadiseSound  4 роки тому

      Rob Fulco That’s definitely a valid way of accomplishing the same thing. I prefer this method mostly because I don’t like loading up a bunch of additional instances of AD of Superior Drummer or whatever instrument. Thanks for the reply! 🤙🏼

      @@ParadiseSound Sorry, misunderstanding what I was saying. Superior Drummer you have a single instance on a single instrument track. Within Superior Drummer (when your midi patterns are finished on the instrument track) there is an option to bounce the midi thru (or out of if using SD3) as separate wav files. Mono and stereo as you need them, with or without mic bleed. Much faster than soloing a hi-hat and recording the audio, then soloing the kick and recording that audio, and so on. Then you go to your folder where they were all bounced too and drag them into separate audio tracks in Luna. I get if Addictive doesn't have that feature, your workaround is brilliant. But Superior stream lines that. It's really an awesome feature. My favorite is in Pro Tools to be able to break all the Edrum tracks out to their own separate AUDIO tracks and click record and record the sounds right to the audio tracks. I haven't seen any other DAW do that (not that I've used them all). Mostly they just break the multi-channel out to auxes/buses.

      @@robfulco4739 Ah I see I wasn't aware that SD had that capability! That is a cool feature and definitely the way to go for that program in that case. Yeah I don't think AD has that feature, at least not the version I am using. I really like all the different sounding kits in AD and it's simplicity but I might have to give SD another look, thanks!

    Just a question. Thanks for the work around idea. Is there a delay compensation built in so I dont have to worry about my kick being 0.011sec later than it was when it is printed as a wav file into LUNA.

    Jesus Christ.. I could have had a kid and put it through college by the time you had separate tracks done for 4 bars of drums...I check a box in reaper that blows out my multi instrument vst, and its done... but thanks for playing.

    A routing setup you can use to get some nice drum tracks into LUNA with a midi program like Superior Drummer 3. My setup: Mac mini, Apollo x8p, ProTools, Luna, Superior Drummer 3, and a patch bay on the Apollo (8 in and 8 out). 1) In protools create 8 outputs that correspond to line Out 1-8 on the Apollo, 2) In protools create a stereo instrument track and add SP3 as the instrument, 3) In protools create 16 AUX busses, 4) In SP3 enable multi-track output and assign your drums, for example Kick Out 3/4, Snare Out 5/6, HH Out 7/8, etc., 5) In protools, for each AUX, assign it's input to the appropriate SP3 output. 6) On the patch bay, patch your Outputs to your Inputs (this is taking the output of protools SP drummer line outs and patching them to the inputs of the Apollo. For example, Out 1 from Protools, to patch bay Out 1, Out 1 patch bay to In 1 patch bay. By doing this, the output of SP from protools now is seen as input on your channels in Luna. This is the equivalent of simulating a kick in the studio mic'd to in 1 of the Apollo. Gain stage from SP3, and use Unison preamps like an API channel strip for color. Now for the drums, go into SP3 and use the track creator to assemble your song. When the song is ready in SP3, simply record enable all the tracks in Luna, start recording, and hit play in SP3. It will be just like recording a drummer at this point and all of your Luna tracks are audio tracks as if you really did.

      Yep this is a great alternative! I’ve done this with Addictive Drums stand-alone direct into console/LUNA as well.

    Thanks! Cool that work-arounds exist. But they're all a drag on workflow. Ultimately, Luna needs to support multi output instruments. (And, I would suggest, a better MIDI implementation generally. Logic, Native Instruments & Akai MPC beat Luna's midi workflow by a mile). Otherwise it's just a ProTools clone with integration into UAD hardware and their plugin store. -- I love UAD hardware & plugins. But Luna gives you next to nothing in terms of "free out of the box" plugins. Everything is an up-sell. (Would it kill them to include "legacy" versions of consoles & summing mixers so that the insert buttons don't look like advertisements to purchase $600 bundles??) - Logic gives new users a ton & ProTools (the historically money grubbers that they've been) gives you a tiered suite of free plugins out of the box. (Many of which professional engineers still use after all these years).

    Wow! What a way to kill creativity! This is quick and easy? Does anyone know if LUNA V 116 has multichannel instrument support yet? I just switched from PC to Mac and Use Cubase 11. I am kind of reticent to switch from Cubase from the last 20 years or so to LUNA. When I am using software for drums I use BFD 3. I split out tons of channels and sub grouping. Split the Kick into 2 or 3 mic tracks (In, Out, sub), then run it into a Kick mono bus where I can apply vst fx on that track. Also apply compression, eq on individual mic tracks too. Then run the kick subgroup into a an analog mixer channel of my SSL xdesk/xpanda. Continue with snare, hats, all the way down to Overheads, room mics, etc. Then I sum up to 16 analog channels from my SSL xdesk/xpanda from the alternate cue mix into Channel 7/8 of my x desk to get a drum subgroup, I can then control the channel fader of the entire drum mix and mix individual drums in analog summing to that subgroup. I then insert a stereo SSL 4000 racked analog eq and Bus compression of the overall drum analog channel. If I want to reuse the hardware eq and Bus Compressor I will print it to a new audio file and free up some hardware. It is amazing what kind of drum sound you get from software drums with mixing analog as if it was a real recorded drum kit in a great drum room. I will see what options I have in LUNA before I switch over for a full test. I already have clean SSL summing with my mixer. The neve summing and API look interesting. I already have them as extensions due to being forced to choose them in a UAD bundle. Long story. Interesting work around though.

    You workaround does work but that is way too long a process to split drums out. Plus, if you make changes to the midi part you have to reprint the changes. Better to have the multi outs showing up on mixer channels like in Studio One or any other DAW that is competitive in today's DAW market. Luna simply is not ready for primetime when it comes to working with instruments with multiple outputs.
