Imagine this: It's 1971, you and your friends go to a Led Zeppelin concert, and opening for them, a weird new band called Yes. They start off normally, but then, out of nowhere, this guy dressed as a wizard starts playing a solo from an instrument that looks like a mix between a piano and a console from the Enterprise. What's more, he's playing FOUR of them. The spacey, rich sounds cascade, creating a soundscape you have never heard or felt before. Synthesizers might have fallen out of popular favor, but just think of the effect it had on a generation of musicians and music-lovers.
I don’t know that you can say that synthesizers have fallen out of popular favor. Like many things, they seem to have come and gone over the years. But they have always had their fans and detractors. And at this time, synthesizers are actually quite popular, particularly since guitar-driven rock has really been starting to show its age.
@@matthewstorm5188 I was about to respond to this. Every modern song you hear today utilizes a synthesizer to some degree, whether or not it’s prevalent in the mix or is in the background.
4:44 to 5:24 & 5:43 to 6:30 Sounds like Rick Wakeman, superb! 2:30 The sound used by Keith Emerson between 1970-1974 live performances. 6:57 Sound used by some well-known jazz fusion bands. 10:40 Sound used by Rick Wright at the end of the song Wish You Were Here.
Love the reaction at 1:43 - it’s the genuine reaction of what we are all like when the anticipation and excitement of what we hope to expect is SURPASSED by when we actually get our hands on the toy we have been so excited about and it blows us away lol ... Sounds so good with that tape echo, and probably sounds even better in person ... congrats I’m genuinely happy for you man you deserve it
Haha, me too, I've got a '74 which i've had for over 20 years - it was found on the local tip in the rain!, still gives me that reaction every time I play it!
Hello Claudio!!! This is FANTASTIC!!! Great demonstration on the MiniMoog and perfect combination with EchoChorus. Great job! Keep posting this videos, I like them soooo much!
This was a blast, just to watch you having fun! My favorite synth sounds by far come from the mini. That supersaw part in the middle spread over octaves + the glide; puts me to mind of the Lucky Man solo! I also really, really like the tape delay!
A MINIMOOG is like no other synth,...You can be lost for days in it :D I miss mine that got lost,... :( Thanks for shareing, and shure u twaeked it right so people could hear the awesomness ; Thankz Doctor ;D
The Minimoog is awesome! I have the Behringer Model D and to my ear I can’t hear a difference, but I still want an original just because it would be cool to have one! Even a reissue would be cool!
I once saw Kraftwerk in Detroit a very long time ago at a small club there. The stage was only 1 foot above the main floor. About 200 people in the club. For their 20 minute encore, the curtains opened back up and the life size robot mannequins were on stage and played Robots, Pocket Calculator, Numbers and Computer World for the finale with the sound turned up twice a loud as the rest of the show. No humans were on stage... just the mannequins moving very life like and realistically playing their devices and mouths moving in perfect sync with the singing. Very shocking how real it looked. They brought the house down. Even some of the audience, next to the stage, was able to touch the devices as input into Pocket Calculator. It was crazy. At the end, the human Kraftwerk band members walked out on stage and stood next to their robot counterparts. Almost disturbing to see that they looked exactly like the robots. They waved goodbye as the curtain closed. True story. Computer Love started to play in the background as the house lights came up. That Detroit stop was one of only eight world wide tour stops that year. Their advertisement flyer for that tour was "Kraftwerk - 8 tons of machines on stage". Never will forget that night.
I don't many bring as much enthuse and energy to their synth vids like yourself. Always a pleasure to watch . Great instrument blessed with your talented fingers . 👍👍
I also have a 1972 Minimoog... just awesome! Think I have had it for 10 years now. I also had the reissue for a bit but I preferred the 1972 version. I have heard the Behringer one too and it sounds great....
eres muy afortunado, un minimoog de esa edad, y en ese estado de conservacion, eso lo que esta es bello, te felicito, cuidalo y deleitanos bastante a tus fans con el, Namaste maestro Claudio
I am as excited as you are in the clip. + it looks as new. Great clip again, Thx Doctor! There is nothing like the real thing, it has some magic inside of it.
Oh man nothing like it. I've got a 74. It's those warm muddy sounds towards the end of your video that these have that older ones don't. I had mine serviced about 10 years ago and recapped where needed. Yours sounds pretty good. The tech said mine had an OSC board that was upgraded in the mid 70's to have improved stable oscillators. The older OSC board had a lower output so the mixer and filter on these Moog's expects a lower level input. So you can overdrive them with even a fatter sound then later moogs due to the inconsistency. Yours might be the same being from the same period. He showed me on a scope on mine where harmonics start just before 4 on the mixer volume. Just makes me happy to see you so excited about yours. I've had mine 30 years and still get just as excited about it.
You must play the synth solo from 'Lucky Man'. Because then you'd be a lucky man playing 'Lucky Man'. And right after that, you have to play 'Hoedown' at a hoedown.
Hi Love from India, very recently i came across this channel and instantly subscribed, i always used to love many of Pink Floyd Synth sounds but i never dived deep onto it as i am a guitar guy but after passing by your channel i got a lot of insights on synths, you are doing a fantastic work , I appreciate the work you do,
Back in the 80's Bill's Music House here in Baltimore, Maryland used to rent these synths by the day, week and month. You could even lease to own... the finance company was up the street. 18 year old me got financed for ANYTHING. Computers were taking over and these beauties became obsolete!!! (RIGHT) If only I knew then what I know now!?!?
I'm still waiting when you @Doctor Mix play the keyboard solos from Emerson, Lake & Palmer songs such as "From The Begining" and of course "Lucky Man."

Have you picked up keys yet? I herd guitar players benefit greatly from keyboard lessions or knowledge of piano

50 this year and it still sounds like something from the future.
The Minimoog is a Monster
This instrument is so synonymous with the 1970s rock, pop, electronic and dance music. Awesome instrument.
What a very good moment of music in live with a legendary machine and a top musician
Thanks a lot

Congrats on a beautiful synth. Owned my share of the wonderful Moog family, nothing compares to the feel of playing one. No tweezers necessary!
Awesome demonstration Doctor Mix. I love seeing your passion for synths and audio, your excitement is palpable!
3:16 this is that sound. now i know from where. When turn on sony play station first version, before disc is loaded!
Sounds crazy good! So versatile and PHAT.
I don't know why but this always sounds so much better than any clone, soft synth or reissue. Señor Mouse by Chick Corea at 7:12?
Amazing the stuff they could do back in the 60s and 70s. Quite advanced for the time. Very cool to the ears. Well done Dr. Mix :-)
That middle part was so wonderful. It all was really, but the middle bit was like a warm blanket. I love you.
This is the perfect minimoog video. Outstanding demonstration
Dr. MIX your enthusiasm is contagious! always enjoy your videos!
I thought porn wasnt allowed on UA-cam?

Why is your pfp a bootleg bowser
Is this a question or a statement?

This whole episode is simply mesmeric from the 9' mark i was spell bound and had to watch it over and over

What an amazing sound, so much feeling....great demo of this synth and gear....
What about a cover of Kraftwerk Autobahn? We'd love It!
I second this, also other Kraftwerk titles that used the Minimoog like stuff off of The Man Machine. :D
Yeah!!
Totally easy request
The first record I ever bought! Kraftwerk got me into synths so this is a great shout!

jesus torres same synth
I've got a Minimoog from the 70s. It sounds great ✌ nice Video 👍
The sound of Earthlings, technology & electricity
I think you mean the sound of white men. Nobody else had anything to do with the pioneering of this.

Gettting serious Emerson Lake and Palmer vibes off this!

One nice thing with analogue gear is that it takes a beating and remains sounding like music. Pure gold, imho.
It's crazy how much the Moog Grandmother sounds like this in character and tone.
The same with my Matriarch. The only problem is, that you can‘t turn both resonance knobs with one hand😂 Greetings from Germany🇩🇪🤝

Do you know something about it's lineage?
In Freewill (1980) and Limelight (1981), the Minimoog patch “Strings” was heard.
That was an Oberheim 16 voice polyphonic on those two albums.
Ahhh in love with that tone at 7:00 stuff of dreams

Is this from an existing song or did he just made it up? It sounds strangely familiar. Maybe the intro to some prog rock song.
Monofonic, mega huge sound, great vintage look,3 oscilators = minimoog.
