    Great video ! I've been doing the exercise incorrectly. I have a overbite and was not bringing my jaw forward and closing my teeth, what a difference !

    How would you practice this with not playing in the center of the lips?

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  6 років тому +2

      Hi Aidan, Whether your mouthpiece is central is not important and actually my mouthpiece placement isn't central (neither was Maynard's or Louis'). The mouthpiece will naturally sit on the top teeth that are furthest out (i.e. most protruding). So in short, yes, just do it! You'll feel and hear the benefits!! Thanks for the query.

      @@trumpetchannelGR. Yes that is understood and my response was that there is no need to for the mouthpiece to be central. No where do I discuss the mouthpiece being placed centrally. I don't play with the mouthpiece centrally either. I play off to the left. The mouthpiece should go wherever it sits naturally and feels comfortable.

    I think it's very important that your embouchure is relaxed. floppy. Allowing air in the cheeks makes the exercise easier to whisper.

    hey daimon! i tried to do the excercise, but when i was trying to hold out the G, i would aways accidenty change to low C and the C on the staff. also, is it okay to take the horn off the face or do you have to keep it on the whole time? i was taking it off and putting it back on to try and recenter my embocure. is that alright?

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  5 років тому +1

      Hi Spartan, thanks for your question! It sounds like you have just started working on the whisper 'g' (which is cool .. we've all got to start somewhere). If I am correct to say that then don't worry too much about the note moving around from g to low c to c on staff, etc. Obviously aim to keep it a 'g' but I feel that after a day or two this will happen for you pretty easily.
      Regarding taking the mouthpiece off your lips. It's not a massive issue but ideally you want to keep the mouthpiece there for the full 20 minutes if possible. The reason for this is to keep the muscles under load for an extensive duration thereby building up stamina.
      I hope that helps! Good luck!

    • @xspartanxxelite2501

      alright, yes i did just start, so thank you for the information! also, does playing the whisper G change your embochure? when i tried playing after doing the whisper tone, i kept my teeth lined up, but when i played i sounded really airy. i usually play with and overbite but i dont know if it is preventing me from playing higher

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  5 років тому +1

      Hi @@xspartanxxelite2501, don't try to keep your teeth aligned when you play normally, just do that for the whisper 'g' exercise. It will definitely sound airy when you play normally like that. Over time (a long time) your jaw will move slightly forward which will definitely increase your efficiency and range but it will never be aligned like it is in the whisper 'g' exercise. The whisper 'g' is an exercise not an embouchure to use when playing normally. The exercise is very powerful but it's not designed to be used when playing normally.

    Hi!! I have a question, can you also do this exercise with only a mouthpiece? And how would you suggest doing this. Thanks in advance!

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  4 роки тому

      Hi Quinten. Thanks for your question! Yes you can do this with just a mouthpiece but I would not advise making that the standard way to practice this exercise. However if you are travelling and a mouthpiece is all you had then it is still possible and a worthwhile endeavour. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers, Daimon.

    The middle C is a better excercice and you get the same effect for doing it for 5 min, this alows you to do your other excercises like flexibility etc.

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  5 років тому

      Hi and thanks for you comment. I wouldn't say doing the whisper 'G' on middle C for 5 mins gives the same affect as doing the whisper 'g' on the g for 20mins (if that's what you're implying). But you are correct to say that going higher works the muscles harder and gives more of a work out to the correct muscle group. In fact there is a revised and more advanced whisper 'G' exercise that will eventually be published in the second edition of the ebook. Nice work Qwerty. All the best!

    Can you do more than 20 minutes?

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  6 років тому +2

      Hi Alexandet, yes you could do more than 20 minutes but I would imagine that would cut into other practice time probably better spent doing other exercises, but yes, in short, you could go as long as you like. Trying to progressively move the whisper 'g' higher (for e.g. 10 seconds on g, 10 seconds on g#, 10 seconds on a, 10 seconds on Bb, 10 seconds on b, etc.) would allow you to keep within the 20 minutes framework but extend the benefits you would get from the exercise as you would be putting a higher load on the muscle group activated by the whisper 'g'. I hope that makes sense and all the best!, cheers, Daimon.

    Is this good for sound practicing?

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  3 роки тому

      In this exercise you are exercising a particular muscle group. This isn’t an embouchure setup I would recommend performing with. Essentially you are strengthening a particular muscle group that is utilised in the extreme upper register and encouraging a stronger alignment of the lips generally.
      I hope that helps.
      Let me know if I can help further.

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  3 роки тому +1

      Hi magda bąk , I don’t know if this will help but sound is a byproduct of everything working in balance. i.e. too much or too little a) Roll In b) tongue arch c) air support will be detrimental to optimal sound, volume, range, stamina and flexibility. Furthermore, too much mouthpiece pressure (which often results when a zone of compression is out balance) will also be detrimental to quality tone. Finally, long tones perform two functions a) the can increase muscle strength and b) they reinforce a habit, so if you’re playing with a bad habit the long times will only serve to ingrain that habit. I hope that helps. Good luck. d.

    My front teeth physically can't touch, how can I benefit from this exercise?

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Christofski, thanks for your question however I am not 100% sure I know what you mean? Most people have an overbite which means that your lower jaw needs to move forward so that your bottom teeth can make contact with your top teeth
      However, only one of the front bottom teeth needs to be in contact with one of the front top teeth. Put more simply both of your two bottom front teeth do not need to be touching BOTH of your front top teeth. In fact when I practice this exercise, which I do each day, only one my front bottom teeth touches one of my front top teeth.
      The teeth touching component of this exercise is crucial as it:
      a) causes your top and bottom lip to align better;
      b) which in turn causes a greater seal against the airflow which gives you better compression for your 'Roll In' equivalent effort;
      c) causes you to exercise a very specific group of the 'Roll In' muscles which are required for playing in the extreme upper register.
      I hope this has helped Christofski.
      Playing the trumpet and desiring progress can be deeply frustrating at times (sometimes even for years or decades as it was in my case) but this ebook does lay out a clear, methodical and rational approach to gaining significant mastery of the instrument.

      @@daimonbrunton So my back teeth are too big and literally won't allow my front teeth to touch, whether I push my jaw forward or whatever I do, there's at best 2mm between my top and bottom teeth. I can align them, but they won't touch.
      ua-cam.com/video/CxKkHn9ADqM/v-deo.html
      Like this, and it can't be corrected without surgery which I've decided not to do as the risks are too high. So the question is, is the Whisper G exercise still useful for me? I suppose I could just try to align my teeth and hope that does it

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  4 роки тому

      Hi@@christobell123. Now I understand what you mean. Thanks for the video link! So, Cat Anderson describes the teeth touching as a 'bookmark', that is, a place you can go to where the face of your front teeth and the face of your bottom teeth are in alignment. What you describe shows that your front teeth aren't going to touch each other but you may be able to find a 'bite spot' where you know that front of the teeth are in alignment.
      In essence, if you can find a spot where this happens (regardless of front teeth touching) you should get the same benefits! I hope that helps! Cheers, Daimon.

    How could I believe you ? I have tried this and then I could not play nothing on trumpet one day... Also it seems that you can not play nice...

    • @daimonbrunton
      @daimonbrunton  5 років тому

      Hi Panagiotis, the comment you make "I have tried this" is rather vague. There are a number of benefits to practicing the whisper 'g' but it is very unlikely any of them will be felt immediately. You will need sustained practice to feel benefits on any new exercise, drill or technique. When you say you "could not play nothing on trumpet one day" that won't have anything to do with the whisper 'g' exercise. The whisper 'g' is an exercise that works a particular muscle group of the orbicularis oris. After practicing it you should return to your normal method of playing. So any issues you had that particular day won't have anything to do with the whisper 'g' exercise. When you say that I "cannot play nice" .. well I am sorry to hear that. I have done over 100 gigs so far this year so I am happy with how things are going. All the best Panagiotis!
