Great video and tips you guys! You guys hit the nail on the head at the end of the video when you talk about in the end, how much fun it is!
I was one of those dudes that got suckered into trying the Ironman class by Gabe. Turns out….it’s waaaaaaaaay easier to watch an hour long video about someone doing it, than attempt it yourself. Gonna do a team next year. I actually want to enjoy the thing next time!!

IMO one of the most important things is to understand from the very start whether you are competing or participating. Those are very different and make a huge difference in how you approach the event. My experience is that participants sometimes get caught up in competing and it causes excess fatigue and crashes.

Get some really good helmet lights. In Sweden/Finland we use purpose built LED helmet lights for enduro in the darker months which are light weight but still have ridiculously good beam width and length.
There are some very good brands to buy from here, which are made in Sweden and Finland since we probably ride more night time riding than anywhere else.
Float the stator ground on your bikes (full wave rectified) and add a battery and regulator-rectifier. This way, all the stator output charge the battery and in turn give you the option to run some really good LED headlights.

Please make this a reoccurring thing with different budgets and rule or requirements for bikes! So much fun to watch maybe include more pit time in the videos too! Makes it way more fun seeing personalities come out during the race! Good and bad!

    • @bikersoncall

I like the idea of first prize, trophy and or
cash , going to a stock class and
making the 'open class' equal, but not privy to
better or more recognition via winning accolades,
cash etc.. Nothing against the open classes, but
they become Sponsorship contests due to the millions
thrown at the machines and racers, eliminating great
riders from ever being able to participate.

  • @db1988

I've done a ton of night riding/racing and I usually use just a task helmet light and has been plenty of light with a back up light and back up batteries! in the dust brighter the lite the more difficult it is to see.
Most important with lighting is to have them adjusted/tested ahead of time

    • @bikersoncall
      @bikersoncall 2 роки тому

Can you recommend a good helmet 'task light' ?
I can imagine how heavy dust clouds could screw up
the best bike and or helmet lighting.

To me, it makes no sense for the organizer to wish
motorcycle death on us all, I mean they won't be
happy until people are falling out of the sky on their
bikes. They should stick to tough courses and let the
chips fall where they may, not layout courses that the
best of the best ruin their bikes on. A challenge is one
thing, but that doesn't seem to be the organizer's
intent lately. What they laid out at Glen Helen seems
quite reasonable, I wish the other organizers could get
      a clue.
