Shawn Corey Carter, born on December 4, 1969, is an American rapper, record producer, and entrepreneur known as Jay-Z. He's famous for helping other artists succeed and was even called the greatest rapper ever by Billboard and Vibe in 2023. Jay-Z was in charge of Def Jam Recordings from 2004 to 2007 before starting his own company, Roc Nation, the next year. He grew up in New York City and started making music in the late 1980s. He could give away his music for the rest of his life and it would not affect his bottom line in even the smallest amount.
He gained his wealth far before UA-cam was even brought into existence, which is when he began his long history of successful investments. Around 2004-5 he already had quintupled his net worth through investments in Reebok and Samsung/Nokia. It was at this point that his music or royalties became completely inconsequential to his affluence.
Dr. Dre is *closing in as a billionaire and none of that is from his royalties or his own music at all.* As a matter of fact, his entire foundation for his wealth was built through the A&R management of other artists. specifically Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game, and G-Unit, who then sparked the fire in a long line of artists under his wing that were profited from by Dre.
