I recall once I surfaced point blank to Yamato and hit it with one shell and it caught fire and blew up seconds later. The absurdity of this game is a big part of the endless fun.
I remember once sinking an entire battle group.... and that was a long hard fight. something like a carrier, 2 cruisers and 7 destroyers. 230kT combined shipping. Brings back memories
We were pretty blessed on the Amiga as far as sound was concerned, games could usually be relied upon to sound good. Even when it became technically outdated, it was still pleasureable.
Maybe its just me......but when 2:50 hits its just perfect. To me, it really gives the impression of a submarine stalking its prey. Moving slowly forward at 5 knots, slinking into a firing position. A hunter of the deep. Does that sound a bit ridiculous? Maybe, but fuck it! :D
What I've learned from this video: 1. Normal diving doesn’t exist, it always has to be a crash dive. 2. You can't surface without blowing your emergency tanks. 3. Your periscope has to be up at all times.
loved this! had to play on ultimate though, war careers, favourite was Narwhal class by far, mega points for heavily escorted ships, historical torpedos, then escape (or sink!) destroyers, loved starting close at night, found it much harder with radar contact
Why sail around on the surface with your periscope still deployed? Couldn't you find a flag big enough to say 'Here I am!!' No wonder so many ships got away. Bad practice to stay submerged with the periscope up, just asking for trouble. Good to see the game again though!
Sinking the Yamato was one of the greatest things I ever pulled off as a kid. All of 12 years old. Those escorts were the real pain.

You need to thank Japanese medieval metalurgy during WWII for this great achievement. They've just made bigger targets, not stronger.

Wow sounds of the Amiga version were far better and more detailed than the msdos version

Gato et al had to be crash dived. Otherwise it would take forever.
I spent many an hour sinking transports and avoiding destroyers...favorite sub game of all time far better that Silent Hunter.
+Hairyskinback Agree! It's old but gold!

Lol the torpedo launches sound like someone running a tube of PVC pipe in a filled bathtub.
Such happy memories :)
good old days
Been thru the wars.
Good times.
this seems better than the ibm dos version, the music is better and the sound effects too. i wish dosbox could emulate the digitzed speech also
Amiga was quite good at the time with sound compared to PC. I think the midi tones were better.
I played this game a lot.
He got away with some BS in that first mission.
Great game!
Totally different theme from any PC Version ...
Why are you putting your periscope up when you're surfaced? Are you trying to get their attention, because thats how you get their attention.
looks better than call of duty modern warfare 3
so many hours...

Good to see the game again though!
