Absolutely: Lolita, Alfie, Next Stop Greenwich Village, The Scalphunters, The Diary of Anne Frank, Wild in the Streets, to name but a few, attest to that.
Of course I remember seeing her sultry look in old movies but it is still an eye opener to compare her to how she looked playing Roseanne's grandmother on the tv show. give her credit for being comfortable within herself.
Never saw the late, great and highly amusing Shelley Winters look lovelier than here. And TWO Oscars were waiting ahead of her in the future of her magnificent career.
The "bows to the audience" comment was meant for the Bette Davis appearance in 1963 that preceded this one. Gotta fix that. But hey... Shelly's Winters' brief detour to Stopette before saying goodnight to the panel is as good as any bow to the audience. Terrific and unintentional and check out her flying pattern. What a pilot !
Oh this show was fixed I remember when the game shows I got busted lmpeople remembers at I don't know how they survived it but watch my line is very fixed I mean they are just fixed
@weightfeather1 I love Shelley Winters becuz of her down to earth quality. Seems like almost all people from Missouri have that quality... i should know becuz i was born, raised and still living in Missouri lol. It's amazing how much Shelley did during her lifetime! R.I.P Shelley you are always missed and always loved!
I had just read her book back in the 70's which she mentioned that Melvin Douglas was her fave director. So when I saw mr Douglas I told him what she said and he was smilling . That was whn I was at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Mr Douglas was with the guy that played Mr Maytag in the ad and he was in Harvey too. I do not remember his name .
And later on she did a famous water scene too. :D She always reminds me of Angela Lansbury...the same sort of characters early on that were transformed in middle age.
@@MrRJMGREEN There was a photo of Judy and Shelley together in Shelley's book, Shelley parodying Judy's histrionics. But no, Shelley was never a guest on Judy's show. These things are easy to look up.
@hankaaron1961 Didn't she fall out (as in accident)? I seem to remember that in the trial against Montys character, the question of his guilt was based on whether he tried to save her life or not after she fell out. Fantastic film by the way, but it's a long time since I've seen it, so my memory might fail me on this point.
The quibble over A PLACE IN THE SUN has got to be one of the most stupid and devious moments on this show. Anyone would know what Cerf was referring to, and he justifiably seemed irritated ("That should be an easy enough question to answer"). As for Shelley, one forgets that she was once considered a sexpot instead of the strident plump suburban housewife type she was later cast as.
She was a looker, back in the day.
A Secret? One of the most versatile actors EVER !
Absolutely: Lolita, Alfie, Next Stop Greenwich Village, The Scalphunters, The Diary of Anne Frank, Wild in the Streets, to name but a few, attest to that.
I am stunned by the Judy Garland impression. Amazing.
I love Shelley Winters !!!
Me too !!!
Of course I remember seeing her sultry look in old movies but it is still an eye opener to compare her to how she looked playing Roseanne's grandmother on the tv show. give her credit for being comfortable within herself.
She was a wonderful actress! Hopdoodle bopadoodle, she was 19 in 1943! Hubba hubba hubba!
I always preferred the single question format as opposed to one person getting to ask question after question.
She's always good in whatever movie she's in.

Thanx for posting. It is always a treat to see Fred Allen again. And Shelley is certainly in top form as well.
this is pretty addicting to watch
I MET SHELLEY IN THE 70'S AT A POOL PARTY AT DEBBIE REYNOLDS. AND SHE IS VERY SWEET, AND OUTSPOKEN. A GOOD ACTRESS, AND SMART, SMART. MZ BIZ.
dolores bell wow, you knew debbie reynolds? that’s amazing!
She was great in A Patch of Blue with Sidney Poitier. She looked every sexy in that movie and pretty with quite an attractive figure.
Shelley deserved that Oscar for A Patch of Blue. The audience loved to hate her.
Never saw the late, great and highly amusing Shelley Winters look lovelier than here. And TWO Oscars were waiting ahead of her in the future of her magnificent career.
Arlene's so good at imitating the different voices of the contestants. And funny too.
And just check how she bows to the audience as she leaves the stage. She was a star.
Loved this star!
Her books are the best bios in Hollywood history--immensely entertaining, funny and moving.
I had a crush on Shelly when I was a little boy. A wonderful actress.
Say, she could really sing! I want to hear more, dernit :P
"Opposite from what" Great answer, Shelley!
Shelly was so thin.....she was stunning.
She was a great actress
@tucsonia yes, Shelley was once considered a sex symbol and was roommates with Marilyn.
Wow this is the first time I've seen Shelly Winters as a thin person she is equally beautiful either way.
Wow, in her prime she actually looks a little like Ingrid Bergman here.
Even when she was still gorgeous she gravitated to 'blowsy' but meaty roles. Didn't give a damn, just wanted to ACT.
Amazing!

What a pilot !
Just like Lucille Ball, whom most of us associate with a later characterization, Shelley Winters was HOT in her earlier career.
A far cry from The Poseidon Adventure !

Actually, she played Roseanne and Jackie's grandmother, Nana Mary.

that was Jesse White
"Opposite from what??" Killer answer by Shelley Winters.
And later on she did a famous water scene too. :D She always reminds me of Angela Lansbury...the same sort of characters early on that were transformed in middle age.
tigergreg8, 76Krag is referring to the Poseidon Adventure.
amazing
Marlon Brandon respected and loved Shelley.
That's more than Darwin Porter can write about all of the other people
Brando slept with.
In a way she resembles Lucy a little
I think Bennet peaks!
She sure looks different that from how I (and I bet most) remember her - more like the other WML appearance.
in four more years she will hand Baden 100 let,s got that's stamp
!
If I remember correctly, Shelley imitated Judy on the Judy Garland Show.
Quite an imaginative memory!
@@akrenwinkle Yes, I read it in Shelley's book

that's her alter ego..LOL!
And P S what a extremely sexy sultry voice.
hahaa it sounded like she could actually sing! ;p
She was SO thin..... :)
she used the same voice n her 1960 spot.
oh she can do judy straight

I'm curious to know what you mean by your comment.?
Does anyone know the year this was at?
She purposely gained weight for the Posident adventure movie. In the late 40s she shared an apt. With Marilyn Monroe.
Wait, Shelley Winters was once thin?
Fred Allen is as talent-less and unfunny as Steve Allen.
This could have been resolved very quickly:
Panelist: Have you screwed every actor in Hollywood?
Guest: Yes.
Panelist: Are you Shelley Winters'?
well, not quite a star yet. compare her exit to bette davis's (any of them) and the difference between fledgling and consumate is clear.
