Yes, he was new to the company, but they don't employ anyone from the street. The men working for this company are all highly skilled. Do not let Leo see your comment on "no time for training" he has the utmost respect for his team member and had openly challenged anyone who has negative comments to put down their softdrinks and popcorn, get up from behind their keyboard and come into a situation where people are firings with high caliber assault rifles and keep their calm as he did. He was given instructions and kept his cool and performed excellently under the circumstances.
I have been in the defence industry and have attended various events where weapons such as those were fired, and believe me when I say "You WILL sh!t yourself only hearing the noise!" The Land Cruiser is already a heavy vehicle, add the armor and it's 1.5 times heavier. The left front weel was hit, thus it was even more difficult to maneuver add the run flat wheel and thar beast weights more than an average house in South Africa.

    @stephaniejooste3879 3 роки тому +7

    Hi Sir.
The driver is Leo Prinsloo, was a South African Police Task Force member similar to the U.S. SWAT teams. He has done work in his field for more than 20 years across the globe.
He is driving a special ArmorMax Land Cruiser Double Cab. Yes his partner was only on his 4th day with the company, but Leo is very defensive about criticism about his performance. He did as instructed and couldn't make the cellphone call as the hijackers were using signal scramblers.
They were being shot at from a high performance AUDI SUV that was driven by well trained men. The shots were mostly from AK47 Assault Rifles and in the second round of fire they punctured the right front wheel, which made the maneuvering of that heavy beast even more difficult, even though it was run flat tyre's.
His intention was to ram the Ford Ranger which was already firing on the crew of the delivery truck.
After he made the U-Turn he was heading straigt into a the line of the attackers of the Ford who had formed a line in the Highway and opened fire. 1 Was elevated on the Concrete Barrier and thus had a elevated attack field.
Leo had intended to ram the Audi on the side but the speed and weight of the vehicle had caused it to lift too high and thus he was stranded on the balast, which he was determined to ram out of the way.
In total they estimate there was more than 20 penetrative high velocity, high calibre rounds that were direct hits, but as the vehicle was armored none were capable of penetrating.
As Leo opened the door for the first time one of the projectiles that had been fired at the seam of the door, actually fell into his side arm holster.
The tragedy is that this is a common tactic and mostly the vehicles are standard and thus the fatalities are high. The most of the personnel who do this work are not nearly qualified for any true difference, they have an extremely high fatality rate and are only trained to the basic requirements.
Please note that the shipment was Smart Phones and it is a high value commodity as they are not sold in the country but in other African Countries, thus they are untraceable and can nett these men a years salary for each in one successful heist.
There are many places where these men rehearse their attacks, the vehicle's are ordered from other high jackers who specialise in that area.
If you are driving and see a Cash in Transit vehicle on the roads or at shopping centres you get as far away from them as you possibly can if you value your life. These men have absolutely no qualm to take the lives of anyone unfortunate enough to be in the vacancy. Many of these attacks are on Highways as in the footage and in broad daylight with other commuters on the roads.
Approximately 3 years ago my husband and I were doing our Saturday Shopping and was approximately 4 cars behind a Cash in Transit Vehicle on the highway doing 120km/h when the truck exploded in the middle of the road. The attackers were maybe 3 cars behind us and came roaring down. They immediately murderer the crew with AK47'S and took off. We were not able to contact emergency numbers as they had also placed scrambling devices there, knowing exactly where they were going to ambush the vehicle. This was 10:00 on a weekend with hundreds of vehicles on that piece of Highway.
We were fortunate to have attended advanced driving lessons and had been able to avoid colliding with others, but some were not so lucky.

I have the utmost respect for both men. Well done lads!

Attempt to call the backup to hear where they are ,the robbers here use signal jammers etc,and there were more than one vehicle trying Rob them, the robbers use explosives to open those vehicles. And when he made the u-turn it was cause the road ahead was probably blocked by the other half of the robbers and Turing around will be better than driving straight into an ambush getting the windscreen shot at will definitely have an impact on his vision of the road. This driver is Leo Prinsloo, who was driving an armoured escort vehicle for a cellphones-in-transit vehicle in Pretoria (South Africa) most dangerous city in SA and 4th most dangerous in the world. The video from the back view shows how Leo was veering across several lanes of traffic and using his vehicle as a weapon against the robbers. Unfortunately these guys are not cops and this is not a Cash In Transit Vehicle. The driver is a former SA Special Task Force Member and that is why he knows what to do. The Passenger is just a normal civilian that started this job and only his 4th day on the job and first experience being shot at, and that is the reason why he does not know how to behave or react as this is not something he has been exposed to or trained for specifically. I do believe these companies do not specifically train their employees like they should or like we wish they would and there is not really any police involvement in the employees' training, however I could stand corrected. This passenger was just very fortunate that he got paired up with this guy,I don't think everybody in this job are this fortunate/lucky. This was a Toyota Land Cruiser transporting a large amount of Cell Phones and in SA, Cell Phones to this load can get the criminals a load of money when they sell it and that is why many of these are being robbed on a daily to weekly basis. And as other mentioned already, there is a new video of the outside, where most of the driving can be better understood. I take my hat off to both, as they were both calm enough to do what needed to be done to save themselves. I know many people would say the passenger was useless and I do understand that everybody cannot research each and every video they stumble upon, but knowing a bit more, does help understand the passenger's behaviour and the entire situation better.

The suspects were using signal jammers and therefore the comms were not working. The experienced ex-special task force in the police asked his partner which was his 4th day on the job at that time I believe to phone for backup on the cellphone. I think the partner handled it quite well for a few days out in the field and his first encounter with danger. From here on out, the partner can learn from this experience and make room for improvement. After all, only so much training and preparation can be done, but nothing beats the real deal in the end. Lastly, it was mentioned that the officers were driving in one of the vehicles that did not have ports for the use of firearms to fire back. The only way was to open the door and fire back. The driver said that he tried to stick to the original plan and that was to use evasive maneuvers. Unfortunately, the vehicle gave in and they had to resort to the last and final step, which was to get out and fire back at the suspects. Fortunately, for the officers nobody was hurt and when they took a stand the suspects aborted their plan and fled.

I think his teammate read the situation correctly. He stayed quiet and did what he was told. He could probably see Prinsloo was fully focused, and that anything he would say or do might be distracting. It is interesting to see that their physiological responses are the same - their eyes are wide and their mouths are open. Prinsloo is visibly breathing harder probably because he is doing some hard driving.

The front camera footage was just released, the truck that he hit was part of the attack, the truck passed him and then the sedan next to him opened fire. The truck pulled over to the shoulder and a bunch of armed men jumped out, so the driver drove straight at them, thats when the truck tried to pass them again and he struck them.

This happens frequently in SA, and apparently they were carrying mobile phones. Driver made 2 U-turns to come back & try to run over as many gunmen as he could (there's another video that shows the front view as he tries to run them over).
Unfortunately, you can't shoot from within a bulletproof vehicle for obvious reasons, so he picked his spot (where he couldn't be flanked) and took the fight to them. Excellent example of an extreme Close Personal Protection situation & remaining in control at all times.
