- This bed of Asparagus was grown from seed from a volunteer plant and hopefully next year I will be able to take a harvest. This is how I prepare my Asparagus for winter, leave a comment on how you look after yours to help me and my viewers. It's such a joy when the asparagus shows up in spring. After the long winter it's nice to harvest something that is so fresh and delicious. In summer it adds greenery to the garden and the yellow in fall / autumn is amazing. Such a beautiful plant 👍

Good to see you Terry, must mean not to hectic at work and your back is so so. The plot looks fantastic, lovely to see how you prepare the bed for next year, now I get the worm farm under it….great idea for others with allotments to copy. The lower part of my garden has been flooded twice so far this fall with the record rainfall. I'll have to build up the area before next year. The cold frame area is doing well. Need to get some wood chips on the paths soon. Thanks for the video update

The mice haven't bothered with the Asparagus bed, but they loved the beans bed, video up Wednesday on how I am trying to deter the mice.

I had a huge bag from 1400 litre mushroom compost. So I put it in 1 tunnel, put leaves and such in 2 weeks ago. It has brought night time temperatures up by 4°c over my 2nd tunnel. Plus its only just heating up still. Then in spring I will add a topping of compost to plant cucumbers in. Did well last year

@@terrykingsallotmentgardening I cut holes in the sides in spring, cut the bottom of 4 inch pots off, then insert at 45° as it makes a fantastic strawberry wall. The cucumbers grow in top part.

Love the tour and the worm composters! I just thinking aloud here, but could you not experiment with the cannabis growers leftovers and decomposed leaf mould (plus other ingredients) to develop your own recipe for seed compost?? As I understand it seed compost really needs to provide very few nutrients but to hold 'some' moisture - it seems to me that you have the ideal components to produce 'King's Seed Compost Number 1'! All the best, and my thanks for sharing your journey!
I have used woodchips and leaf mould as a seed Compost and it worked really well and with the peat based composts being fased out I will be looking to improve my growing composts Gordon.

Mornin' Terry. I set up a small asparagus bed this year. How many years will it be before I can take a few spears..... I'm still picking radish pods. They've been a brilliant little bonus crop,
Mine were grown from seed so I will be leaving it 3 years, from crowns you could take a few after 2 years in my personal opinion.
